Love these Western BBQ chips
I really like the Western brand of BBQ wood chips. They offer a wide variety of wood/flavors and they're priced pretty well. My local big box stores have a hard time keeping them in stock, so when I run low, I buy them through Amazon. About the chips, they're great Consistent quality between bags Nice thin chips and they burn very well. Pricing - A bit more expensive than my big box store. I try to buy them locally since they're cheaper but when they're out of stock, I'm forced to buy from Amazon. Keep your eye on the prices here as they fluctuate a LOT

Applewood chips are phenomenal and a value.
The Applewood chips were a steal at under $3 per 180 cubic inch package. A nice sweet and mild smoke, great on pork, tritip, chicken, and my favorite smoked trout or salmon. Absolutely tasty flavor, burns really nicely in a gas grill smoker box sitting on the burner on low. Dry chip make smoke in about a minute that way for a quick smoke on burgers or a low heat long smoke for something like fish. Can’t beat the value and the flavor is phenomenal. Will buy again as long as it’s available.

Reliable brand of a favorite smoke wood
It used to be that outdoor grillers used mostly hickory. Then we started trying various woods for different flavors. Today we have a variety of smoke woods available, either from local stores, online or from your own tree trimmings. Today, in addition to traditional hickory, I use red oak, pecan, cherry and apple mostly--sometimes a mix of several woods. I've begun to use apple wood more and more for almost everything I grill and smoke. It adds a light smoke flavor that doesn't overpower the food and it goes well with everything I've tried. I like chunks with charcoal and chips in a smoker box with gas. But I'm fine with chips tossed on the charcoal as well. I no longer soak smoke wood since it doesn't seem to make much difference. The Western brand of smoke woods is a reliable brand. I find it available locally almost all the time in small bags like these on Amazon as well as large sacks in specialty stores or outdoor cooking sections of variety stores. It's good stuff. Buy it where you get it the cheapest.

Very good chips, were cheap...what happened?
I got these things for less than $3 a bag and I went back to get more just a few days later and I can't find them anywhere under $9/bag some sellers as high as $14 - what gives? They are not worth more than $3 as they burn way to fast but sometimes that isn't bad...I did soak mine down with apple juice in a mixing bowl as I feed the smoker but really...why the jacked up prices all of a sudden?

Switching and sticking with this brand.
Though I prefer my Weber Smokey Mountain when it's hot out I use my gas grill. After trying several companies this is the brand I'm switching to for smoking on a 3-burner gas grill. Instructions state not to soak so today I didn't. Have tossed all my smoker boxes and now buy those 3/.99 loaf pans from the grocery store, cut a few holes in the bottom with the tip of my scissors, fill it with chips and place it uncovered in the back right on top of the flavor bars. Put that section on high and within five minutes or so the smoke starts. Leave it on high till the chips flare (which they probably will) and use a spray bottle to put the flare out. Put the butt on the either non-heated or very low heat sections and turn down the back burner. I take another small tray with chips and place it on the back section, right on top of the grate. This won't smoke by itself since you've turned the heat in the back down to control the overall temp. However, after ten minutes or so these chips are so dry that if you toss one or two kitchen matches on top they'll immediately ignite. As advertised, chips are easy to start (they're already kiln dried) and will smoke for 20-30 minutes. When you add in the second tray you get 45 minutes or so which experts say when done at the beginning of the smoke is more than enough. The trays are reusable so the cost is very low and for me they work much better that my smoker boxes. Hope this helps anyone trying to smoke on a gas grill.

GREAT PRODUCT!
I am smoking our Thanksgiving turkey. I always use apple chips after an overnight brine of apple cider. How great it was to have the apple wood chips delivered right to my door with no need to go shopping around for the apple wood chips. I was delighted as always with Western's great product, fast delivery and no need to fight traffic and wonder if I would find apple wood chips. From previous experience I know the fine quality of this product and I know my turkey will have that great smoked apple flavor.

These are great wood chips and the smaller chips (as opposed to the chunks) are perfect for the grill. They start burning quickly and produce a great applewood smoke. I simply make a little tube of aluminum foil with a slight opening at the top and place it on the grill right after I start it and before I put on the meat. By the time the grill is ready, the smoke is starting to come out and hits the meat immediately.

Great deal on good chips
When smoking with wood chips or chunk hard wood I usually prefer this brand to most other options. Consistent quality and flavor are key and they have yet to let me down. Add to that a really good lightning deal price and it's a no brainer.
