Drain King 186 Unclogs Bathroom Sinks, Showers, and Swimming Pool Drains, 1.5 to 3 Inch

So, you have a clog? The first thing you did was run to Lowes/Home Depot and bought Liquid Plumber, but after following the "wait up to 15 minutes before flushing pipes" and cover the opening so it can do its work undercover...it turns out that it's a miserable failure. So you go to Plan B, which is none-other then use a STRONGER chemical. In my case I picked up Liquid Lightening Drain Opener with the power of sulphur. After letting it sit for 20 minutes, it did nothing but smell up the whole house. Ok, on to Plan C, yet another chemical, but this time, I'll go organic since the sulphur smell turned me completely off. I used ZEP Drain Care. It sat there through the night and not only through the night, but sometimes through the day with added applications. NOTHING. Needless to say, Plan D didn't work either which was the use of a Plumbers Snake. I even used Drain Blaster which uses compressed air, but that didn't completely solve the problem. It helped somewhat or made it worse depending on the situation. Now, I'll cut to the chase, my shower has been draining slowly for months. When it got real bad, I would use the Drain Blaster and it would help, but it just moved the clog but did NOT REMOVE the clog. So this past week, I ordered Drain King #186. I knew it would get here after memorial day, but it wasn't a real emergency, since I was already use to it draining slowly. After calling in guests for Memorial Day, my wife informed me that there was a new problem...the sink was now draining so slow and it stunk horribly. I did what I knew I had to do, I grabbed the Drain Blaster, and in this case it didn't speed up the drainage, it actually brought it to a halt. A very embarrassing situation for my guests, but after getting through the day, I was hoping that Drain King would arrive and that it would actually work. Today, I finally got Drain King in the mail, I immediately went to work. The rubber on the product is very very strong, but flexible. I was able to maneuver it into the bathroom drain. My wife turned on the outside hose that it was connected to. It made a loud vibration. I ran it for about 3 minutes. No water splashed up at all. When I finished, I tested the drain, and IT WORKED PERFECTLY! Then I went to the sink. I shoved it into the main line going into the wall, but this time I didn't hear a vibration and that got me worried. I wasn't able to put Drain King more than 5 inches into the pipe and it was pretty horizontal which worried me that it would splash water back in my face. We put it on for less than a minute because I didn't hear a vibration and I was worried that it wasn't in correctly and the rubber would burst, so I took it out. I put the sink back together and cringed as I ran the water down the sink. I expected it to fill up and lay stagnant. HOWEVER, IT WENT DOWN SO FAST! It was better than it ever was. Truly amazing! I know this review is rather long, but I want you to realize that I tried everything. This Drain King IS WORTH EVERY CENT. If the thing just worked on the shower and busted after that, it was well worth it. But in my case, it cleared the shower and the sink perfectly. I Praise the Lord that I found this product. I believe you will find it is your BEST chance to clear any clog you have. P.S. There was a clone of this product in Lowes by Cobra Products. I never tried it, but I believe the thing that makes Drain King unique is the metal tip at the end which is supposed to be the key to its clog removal. This product received a 97 out of 100 on a Consumer Reports test of drain care products in 2006. The only such product to get such a high score. The drain king cleared what liquid drain cleaners and snakes couldn't touch and did it effortlessly. My home has cast iron drains. The tub drain had been getting slower and slower. In the past I had been able to use a plastic barbed snake to pull hair out and get it draining better. But each time the improvement was less and less. I tried running a snake into the trap from an access panel in a closet behind the tub and could not get the snake past past the trap. Out of desperation I tried the Drain King thinking if this did not get it a plumber was next. I connected a garden hose to the sink in the bathroom with an adapter followed the instructions and within a few minutes I had a free flowing drain! My wife's comment was she couldn't remember the last time the drain worked so well. I was so impressed that I used it in our laundry room on another cast iron drain for the washing machine that I also could not get a snake past. Same result. The drain flows great. I would have gladly paid two or three times the price. Additionally it is quick and easy to use. My only regret is I did not try it sooner. I would give this 10 stars if I could. Easily saved me a couple of hundred dollars and the next time my drains get slow I know exactly what to do. Great product and so simple.

This product definitely saved me money when used properly. My plumbing credentials only involve household DIY projects, which means plenty of trial and error, and water in places it should not be. The origin of this journey started with a kitchen sink that would not drain. I apologize for the long post. TL;DR - Make sure you put the Drain King bladder in a pipe that is vertical and has no other areas in the house for water to escape except for where the blockage. Tried a plunger to no avail, so I found a bucket, placed it underneath the drain trap, and took apart the pipe. Water drained and it confirmed there was a blockage somewhere further down the line, possibly in the pipe underneath the house's crawl space, or worse, in the pipe under concrete near the public sewer. Drove to the local home improvement store and bought a 25ft auger. Opened the clear-out under the sink and started to snake the line. Managed to pull some nasty black gunk. Reassembled the trap, ran water, but alas, it didn't work and sink filled with water. Went out and bought drain cleaner. Poured it down the sink and left it overnight. The next morning, tried running hot water but the clog would not clear. Went on amazon to find a longer auger because I thought maybe 25ft wasn't enough. Upon browsing, I saw the Drain King with the really high rating and product reviews. It was cheaper than an auger and with a couple of other purchases, I was able to get it delivered in the same day. On a Saturday to boot! When it arrived after noon, I decided to give a try in the clear-out, hooking it up to my garden hose and feeding it through my kitchen window, by myself without waiting to my family to get home. Big mistake! Turned on the water from the backyard, heard loud vibrating noise within the pipe, but also a sound of a waterfall under the house. Shut the water off, looked under the house and saw water coming out of an old galvanized pipe like a waterfall. Ran back inside and saw the big uh-oh! There was black smelly water coming out of the pipe past the bladder. When my family arrived home, I found out there was also black water in the upstairs bathtub. It appears the kitchen sink and the bathtub were connected to the same sewer pipe. Yikes! Crawled underneath the house and after much debate, decided to cut out the rusted section of pipe, drove back to the store and replaced it with ABS pipe and rubber couplers. Thought I was being smart by plugging up the bathtub. Started the water again when I heard a yell from inside to stop! Forgot to cover the overflow drain in the tub so black water was still making its way into the tub. It was late so I called it a night. The next morning, went to the store again and bought a cap for my kitchen pipe. Closed the clear-out and capped the pipe under the kitchen sink. I climbed up onto the roof to feed the hose through the bathroom window. Shoved the bladder down the tub overflow drain and started the water. Lots of vibrating noise coming from the pipes until water started to come out of the vent on the roof. I was about to throw in the towel and sat down with a feeling of defeat, ready to concede and call the plumber. But I had one last ditch plan. I tried the previous night to feed the bladder down the pipe I just replaced that headed down the cement foundation but I wasn't able to bend the bladder down the 90 degree bend. I gave it another try and after a lot of hose forcing and twisting, the bladder was far enough down to give it one last shot. The pipes vibrated and all of a sudden, after a few minutes, it seemed to hum. Took it out and had the tub drained while I watched the water beautifully flow down without any obstruction. A very satisfied customer.

Worked as described! Easy to use. Minus 1 star for durability which could be improved. The bladder popped after a 5th use. Definitely better than some of the other customers experience. I used it 3 times on a washing machine drain and 2 times on a commercial floor drain. Key thing is to let it run for the duration as directed. It may sound alarming at first when you hear the loud pumping, but let it run to get the clog completely cleared. Definitely a life saver. We do, at the very minimum, a big load a day in our household which can start building up gunk from hair to soap residue or whatever. And so the drain getting clogged can really disrupt our household significantly and having this around really saved us time and money.

Giving this a 5 STAR rating because I think (?) it worked although not 100% sure. I followed instructions and did what I thought was the right way to use. It filled as described and started making the "pulsing sounds" as described - I waited (and waited) for it to get to the point where the sound changed (meaning the blockage was cleared). It NEVER changed sounds/tones, but after a while I decided to try it anyway. and found that the blockage (or most of it) had been cleared and water from my laundry tub (on the same waste pipe as my upstairs kitchen sink) was now draining as it had before. I have tried draining a couple more times and so far, so good. At least I still have the Drain KIng on hand if needed in the future!

This worked well for me. I would definitely recommend it. It’s not going to unclog something. That’s a major clog, but it will definitely work if you have reasonable clogs

I'm sure this item works well for it's intended purpose, but that's not why I purchased it. I was trying to unclog my pool skimmer line. I purchased two different sizes (the 501 and 186 Drain King Inc. models) and followed directions, closing off all other skimmer and return lines. Neither one were able to dislodge the clog. I actually spent hours trying to unclog the line on 3 different occasions trying from the pump and skimmer hole sides. It made lots of noise as the other reviewers have stated and lodged itself in the pipe so I assumed it was working correctly. I gave up and was about to call a pool service. The day before this I needed to add some liquid stabilizer for the first time this season so I poured it down the unclogged skimmer side. The pump pressure shot up 10 psi for about 60 seconds and then all of the sudden I had a basket full of leaf debris and the pressure fell to it's normal level. Not sure why or what happened but this thick liquid seem to act like Drano and helped push the clog through, even though I used the unclogged skimmer side. Hope this helps other's who have issues with clogged pool skimmer lines.

Amazing product, it cleared a total clog in my kitchen drain even a commercial 50ft power snake could not clear. Recommend 200% before trying anything else. Whoever invented this deserves a Nobel prize!!

Had to wait some time for it to be delivered to the UK but it solved my pipe blockage problem on a 1.5 inch swimming pool sump return pipe. Used it in the sump end of the pipe. Had even tried turning the pump around to push the blockage out but to no effect.
