I am a huge fan of black beans and rice. I usually buy the Zatarains brand, but sometimes I don't always have the half hour or so it takes to fix that box dinner, which is why I got these. It says on the bags that they only take a minute in the microwave to warm up. That turned out to be true. I gave it a few minutes to cool down and then opened the bag and poured its contents onto a plate. It's not as flavorful as the Zatarains brand so I would definitely add some seasoning to it. But overall it's pretty good. Especially when you're in a pinch and crunched for time.

These packs are incredibly convenient—perfect for a quick, healthy meal when time is tight. The variety pack offers a great selection of flavors, each one seasoned just right, so you don’t have to add a thing, though I do usually add rice. I've really liked that you can microwave the whole packet for 60 seconds and they're ready to go. I also like that they have simple ingredients without any preservatives.

Excellent flavor, ingredients, and consistency. My only wish would be a larger package (15 or 16 oz). This 10 oz thing...which MANY other manufacturers have for some reason chosen, is not economical. Who eats only 5 oz of any meal-oriented dish? Especially one full of beneficial fiber and protein? This is not a knock against this particular manufacturer—just in general! As to these products, I am surprised to say that the Peruvian Lentils are my FAVORITES! I had expected the Puerto Rican beans, Cuban black beans, or Tex Mex pinto would have been my favorites. Since those are most like what I grew up with. But the Peruvian Lentils are fabulous. The seasoning is just so mouth-watering. I tend to add these to quinoa and mix to make a fuller, higher-protein with better amino-acid profile and higher fiber dish! To the manufacturer: offer us some higher capacity options! At least 16 oz. and keep it up! Also — why do my favorites keep going OUT OF STOCK here on Amazon?? :((

These are not very tasty. Bland and look unappetizing when poured out. I wouldn’t recommend.
