Yellow Mountain Imports Travel Magnetic Chess Set (9.8-Inch) - Folding and Portable Board Game

I really like this chess set for my needs. My friends and I were just learning to play chess and we wanted a low cost, portable, yet nice looking chess set and this set meets our needs. Be advised that this is not a "high quality" product. The pieces and board feel cheap, but it's perfect for those who are either just getting into the game or looking for a portable set to play on the road that still looks nice without spending too much money. The magnets seem to work very well; they are strong enough to hold the pieces onto the board, even while upside down, yet are still effortless to remove from the board while playing. Honestly, the pieces are so lightweight and easy to lift that I sometimes forget that they are magnetic. The board is also labeled with 1-8 and A-H which are visible from both sides. This is great for not only easily announcing your moves, but also for writing down each move in the event that you want to start getting into more advanced chess playing. Overall, I think that this chess set is perfect for new/intermediate players and I have been very happy with it. As I continue to get better at the game, I imagine that I will eventually want to upgrade to a nicer and higher quality board. However, for the time being, this is perfect! Note: If you are a serious/advanced chess player, you probably would not enjoy this board. Advanced players would probably want to invest in a higher end chess board.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my child. After using it all this time, I can say it has held up much better than I expected. At this price range, it does everything I expected and hasn't just fallen apart. Pros: - Silver and Gold are very distinct colors. Other reviews mention they are not. Maybe the set has changed. But mine is just like the photo. Very Silver and very Gold in pretty much any light. - Magnets strength is sufficient for car use and uneven surfaces. Not super strong magnets, but I can hold the set upside down and the pieces stay in place. Sure, they will fall if I shake the board. But I wasn't expecting super magnets. This balance of magnet strength also feels nice when moving the pieces. If they were any stronger, you would be lifting the board and need to hold the board down. I find the magnet strength just right. Cons: - Cheap China product. Yet this is exactly how the price is kept low and that makes it a good value. The thin edge around the board will be prone to snap at the corners. This doesn't affect the playing area. I actually wish those corners were rounded. Only one corner has snapped so far. - Doesn't really stay closed reliably. So we store it in the box it came with. To avoid this, I recommend a simple rubber band. Problem solved. So not much of a con here either. Neutral: - Good portable size. But some people may find a 9.7" board on the small side. At the price, size, and features; this is a great set. Especially if you are not sure the recipient will even like Chess. If you love Chess and want to spend a lot more money, there are plenty of better sets. The value of this set worked perfectly for me and my kids.

Great chess board for travel. Compact yet efficient.

Entertaining children when at restaurants or car rides was always a challenge. We tried activity books, but they became a chore with the crayons, scissors, paste, etc. We decided to get a magnetic chess set. This worked out great and keeps the children busy during waits. The board is small enough to carry and all of the pieces fit inside the folded board. There isn't a bag for the pieces (but what did you expect for a low price). We just use 2 sandwich bags to keep the pieces intact. The magnetism of the board is strong enough that there is no need to worry about pieces falling off. Like all magnetic boards, what do you do with the pieces once they are captured? I have yet to find a magnetic chess set to address this issue. We have found a random metal board solves this issue.

I’ve been using this magnetic chess set for over 4 years now, and it’s still going strong! The durability and portability of the board make it perfect for both travel and casual games at home. The foldable design and secure magnetic feature ensure that the pieces stay in place. I’ve taken it on multiple trips and it's always been a great companion for some on-the-go chess fun. Over the years, I’ve bought several more as gifts for friends and family, and they’ve all loved it. Highly recommend!

This is compact chess set is a super value with excellent quality pieces and board. Perfect for travel, and at a fantastic price point. I personally like the feel of the pieces, including the weight of as you feel the chess piece while making a move. Has a good feel which is important to me. I highly recommend this Chess Set and the seller.

My boyfriend and I like to play chess and we always worry about the board and pieces being too cheaply made and too small of a platform to use as well as simply losing the pieces, as we tend to do with many things in our home; we also have a kitten so she gets fresh and curious and will dismantle anything she finds to be important to us for attention or as something she thinks she can play with. Anyway, he was really excited when he opened it and we put it together to see how it would be in a playable setting. He expressed how much he thought it was so cool and simply loves the size as well as it being magnetic to cut down on the stress of losing the pieces as easily. The only thing we would suggest is something each player could magnetize the pieces to while playing in order to still keep all pieces together as each person gains chess board territory.

Great price for a magnetic board

PROS: - 24.7 cm x 12.5 x 3.9 cm when folded. It is small and will fit quiet nicely in a bag without taking too much space when travelling with it. - The pieces have a felt bottom which feels nice when sliding on the board. - The magnet works very well on all the pieces. All the pieces hang on the board without moving, on 90 Degree and 180 Degree test. - the magnet is not so strong as to be noticeable during a gameplay. - The pieces are made with fine details. - A really good value. CONS: - The inside storage could use a felt lining, in order to prevent the rattling of the pieces. - The rattle test on 90 Degree: The black king's magnet is slightly weaker, such that when the board is rattled, it will start to move don with gravity. - The hinges seem flimsy and easily breakable. - What keeps the board in the folded position are two interlocking plastic tips, which do their job in keeping it shut but I do not trust them to last. I would have preferred a proper latch on the outside to keep it shut. OVERALL: It is a well made portable mini chessboard for the travelling, and a good value.

Excelente producto, fascinó a mi hijo. Lo recomiendo ampliamente
