In a sea of Shibumis, be a Neso!
In a sea of Shibumis, be a Neso! I bought this so I wouldn’t be lugging an 80-lb umbrella to and from the beach in Hilton Head — best decision ever. It’s durable, rock-stable in the wind (held up on some seriously gusty days), and throws way more shade than a standard umbrella. Setup and takedown take seconds, and it packs down small enough that it doesn’t hog space in the car. It’s also cheaper than the Shibumi and easier to set up. Highly recommend if you want beach shade without the hassle!

Great beach tent loved it
I bought this tent for the Yucatan peninsula beaches in Mexico. It's an amazing tent. Once you get the hang of setting it up it's pretty easy and straight forward. The poles seem to wobble under the wind and I question how long they will last. What really threw me off was that I'm missing a sand bag and rope. I contacted customer service and got a quick response. I'm not state side and will have to wait a couple of months before I get the sandbag and rope but I liked the quick response and that they stand behind their products. One last thing to note is that its not a one piece as shown on their pics. Its sewn in the middle. It doesn't look bad but I think they should update their gigante pictures to note that, my wife was tripping about it. Also the stiching is not that great. It's no biggie for me I will reinforce check picture it's my first use. Update: tested it in high winds today it works like a champ! It does take a lot of adjusting! I had to really stretch the tarp and dig holes for the sand bags so they wouldn't move. The poles are on the inward edges to avoid downward flapping. I had to put pairs of poles on each corner so that the poles wouldn't break watch video.

Poor quality. Do not buy.
Would not endorse. This is the beginning of my 3rd year using the shade a week a year on vacation. So I have only used the shade 2 weeks and it is super stretched out and virtually unusable. I feel it is going to blow away with a strong wind. The end is rolling up and the edges are frayed. Again, I have only used it 2 times for a week each time. Now I’m stuck at the beach with a shade that does not work in 8mph wind which is absolutely crazy for $170 shade.

Join the tribe!
The beach is a psychological battleground where your choice of shade architecture defines your soul. On any given shoreline, you will spot the Umbrella Unicorns, nervously watching their rusted metal poles transform into airborne javelins the second a breeze picks up. Nearby are the Canopy Colonizers, occupying an entire zip code with heavy metal frames that block the horizon and cause immediate marital arguments during assembly. Then you have the Shibumi Wind Talkers, whose ultra-light canopies thrive on the wind but sound like a nylon flag ripping at Mach 1 right over their ears, at least until the breeze drops and the fabric collapses onto their faces like a sad, wet blanket. And then there are the Neso Nomads. To join this elite tribe, you must fully respect the laws of mass and tension. If you skimp on the setup, you will instantly be humbled, wrapped in neon spandex like a sweaty burrito while a nearby toddler judges your life choices. The ultimate golden secret to survival is simple: you have to fill those anchor bags until they look like they’re smuggling watermelons out of the grocery store, then stretch the fabric out so the top looks like a trampoline, and lastly bury the bags deeper than the Epstein files. Once you properly anchor it, the Neso becomes an absolute aerodynamic fortress. While the neighboring umbrellas are javelining down the coast impaling tourists and the pop-up tents are twisting into aluminum pretzels, this canopy stands proud, offering glorious, wind-defying, and perfectly quiet shade. It is lightweight, fits effortlessly into its bag, and handles real coastal wind like a champ. Buy the tent, join the tribe, and claim your shoreline dominance! PS-we use the 4 pole setup, definitely worth it. Buy once cry once.

Surprisingly easy and works
I took one star off for not having detailed instructions on how much weight to put in the four bags . We started with two gallons of soft sand in a windy day and ended up needing four total gallons and wet sand worked better in terms of weight . If you don’t get enough weight in the bags , it will collapse as other reviews have had issues with . Just keep adding sand or rock and try again . As soon as you have the correct amount of weight , there are NO issues with the tent or canopy staying up even in HIGH wind . It Makes no noise which I was specifically looking for as its competition is loud . We got the gigantic and more than enough room for 5 of us. It does ripple in the wind so that was something I was not sure of , but seeing others on the beach , theirs does too and it does not fall in . Key is to add a lot of weight to the bags . Bring a bucket to help with that . We love it and love the whale fabric ! We alway used umbrellas and I could not get them deep enough , but this is great and easy for me to put up .

Great Shade!
We were waiting for a second set of poles to arrive and decided to take our Neso to our local park to do a test run on it before we go to the beach later this summer. We have only ever had traditional canopies for our outdoor adventures and I have to say this was super easy to set up and use. Granted we did not fill the bags with sand(we don’t have beaches in WV), we just staked it in the ground for our test run. Setting up with stakes took all of 3 minutes to accomplish, we imagine filling the bags with natural elements like sand will take a bit longer but seems like maybe only an extra 10 minutes with 2 of us working on it at the same time. We had about 10MPH breezes rolling through and the Neso didn’t even notice the breeze. I think the only thing I would say is a con is that it doesn’t come with any type of shovel or anything to help you get natural elements into the sand bags. But that’s easily remedied if you buy a folding shovel(we will before our beach trip), it will fit easily into the bag, as the carrying bag has extra room in there. A feature I didn’t realize was there… The carrying bag has an insulated pouch to carry a cold drink or two. Which is a nice touch. All in all, the set up was easy It provided sufficient shade for our family of 4. Didn’t budge in 10MPH breeze. Got a few compliments. Easy take down. Taking down and packing up was a breeze, so much easier than a traditional canopy. We are really happy with the performance and ease of use for this product. Update: Took our Neso sun shade out for its maiden voyage on the beaches of Outer Banks. The first day within the first 2 hours both poles snapped in half. Luckily we had purchased an extra set of poles before we left for the beach. Could by user error as we had only set it up at our local park before our beach vacation where there was a small breeze. The rest of our vacation our extra set of poles kept our Neso up, so as I said the snapping of the first 2 poles could have just been user error or a manufacturing issue. Setting it up, using sand to fill the bags was a breeze, quick and almost effortless. I had mentioned thinking we would need a shovel, but I was wrong, it was easy to fill the bags by hand and probably faster than using a shovel. We also took an extra step and buried the bags in the sand, which I think helped to keep the bags stable in the high winds. Taking down, I thought we would have issues with sand wanting to stick to the bag, but again I was wrong, if you shake the bags out properly, the sand doesn’t stick in the bags. All in all we are very happy with our purchase of our Neso Sunshade. We are sad that we are back down to one set of poles as we would like to have the additional set for other applications.

Couldn’t use, too windy
It’s big, it’s well made, it’s simple to put up, and it packs down small. But it doesn’t work in wind. Not “it takes some adjusting” in wind, it just flat out catches too much wind. Pulled it all super tight, overfilled the bags and buried them (heavy wet sand), planted the ends of the upright posts. But it just caught too much wind and wouldn’t stay up. Granted it was a pretty windy day, I will take it on our next vacation and try again, hopefully it is useful on a calm day. The beach was absolutely covered in shibumi’s but I was the only sucker even trying to put up something else.

Fab tent but watch for tangles when washing
We were using a canopy which was heavy and dragging it across the beach was nearly killing us. Before our trip I had been looking at Neso tents and had one delivered to our rented beach house. The lightweight tent worked well - easy to carry to the beach, setup was fast and easy, we did shift the poles a little when the wind direction changed, and we put plenty of sand in the bags and buried them and our tent didn’t move or fall down which did happen a couple days to other folks. I only have one complaint about this tent and it’s an easy fix. We got home and I unpacked it, the humidity at the beach made the tent smell a little which I expected and thankfully Neso made it washable so I threw it the washer. When I pulled it out of the dryer it was knotted up to all tarnation, I don’t remember anyone else saying this in reviews so maybe that was just me and dumb luck. It took about half an hour to unknot, everything was still intact so no biggie. In the future I’ll use spring clips to attach the sand bags to the corner it belongs to, Neso could also make a small mesh bag on the inside of the tent corners to hold those sandbags loosely when they are washed, might be a nice place to put lightweight objects like keys or sunglasses. I like this tent so much I’m getting a smaller one for when my BF and I go to the beach just us, looking forward to packing it in my carryon and saving significant cash on umbrella service.

This is my second such tent - Gigante model. The first one still lasted 3 years - between 20 & 30 ~8 hour/day uses per year. Only used in summer on the Aegean and Black seas - on the beach with small rocks, sand and shells. - Downsides: 1. The corners where the elastic fabric is stitched to the leather part stretch even when there isn't that strong of a wind. They can hold some strong gusts and usually it is the sandbags that move and cause the falling, but the stitching appear as if it would rip in at some places. For us one of the corners partially ripped from a moderate gust of wind but the pole can still be put and the tent holds well with 4 and 3 poles up. 2. The poles are very durable and extremely well made. However one of the elastic ropes in a pole tore from the friction in the bag relatively easily and though it still worked it is more difficult to operate and needs fixing. The foam balls on the tips of the poles deform too easily, as a result of which the adhesive inside tore the foam and once no longer fixed to it, the tip of the pole cut through the foam ball and required strengthening and glueing back on. SPF is 50 at first but then after 1 year use due to friction and imperfect conditions falls probably by about 50%. 3. Can but shouldn't be used as light rain shelter. Make absolutely sure to dry and then pack up as the wet friction wears away the SPF and the tent can catch mould pretty fast as well. (not that it happened to ours but to others it did). 4. The bag wore out pretty fast , at the 10-20 use stitches were ripping. - Upsides: 1. Holds well. Easy setup under 5 minutes and easy to adjust or move if needed. 2. Easy to pack, weight is fine even with 4 poles and takes up the least amount of space in the car. 3. Perfect for a family of 4 + a dog, but can fit even 2 families of 4 easily. 4. Holds strong winds - not too strong though as the fabric stretches beyond repair and loses. Result: By a margin the better option on the market for daytime beach camping. Wouldn't recommend it for places with too strong and gusty winds as that wears the fabric out.

Great product and investment. Easy set up! You'll love it.
Absolutely perfect. We used this to cover our little kid pool and it worked wonderful. Also, we didn't fill the pockets with sand or rocks but used tent pegs to secure the 4 corners in harder ground and sand and it worked perfect. Our first camping trip with it we were away from camp and a wind storm had come up and I for sure thought that the wind would have knocked it down, but it was still standing! Awesome! I love the idea that this shade is open on all four sides and that it lets the air flow through rather then a stuffy pop up sun shade. This take less then 5 minutes to set up, it's easy to back and throw in with the rest of your summer gear. This is a great investment and will be used a lot. The only kind of downfall with the Grande is that it does take a bit of room when it's set up because the strings that tie it down are long. Best to get it set up early before the beach gets busy because you might not have enough room. Overall, I definitely recommend this sun shade. I've had many inquiries and compliments on it.
