great review of many cities
Book provides a quick hightlights of each city and can be used to plan your trip, esp if you have only a short visitPhotos are really good and writing is very coincise - book to keep and use over and over. I have traveled extensively and this book give you a great summary if you only have a few days. Only US cities that are original and uniue are: New York, San Fran, Las vegas and New Oreleans, all others look very much alike with same kinds of houses and stores.New York is big , moves so fast and NEW York natives are the best, assuming you can understand their accent. Some of the most friendly people are the New Yorkers - just don't say you are a New Jersey Giants fan !You will hear at least 10 diff launguages spoken on the street.San Fran is probably the most pretty city in America. So many hills, great food andthe gays know how to party too.New Oreleans is old , historic , lots of unique food and people are the salt of the earth.Vegas is just a crazy fun party town and nothing in USA compares to it.Now, food and shows rule vs the mob in the old days. Lose at the tables - go drown your sorrows and have a 3.99 steak dinner or even better, go the Bellgio for the buffet and bring a bigger set of clothes !

Perfect GetawaysCouples and Kiddos!
My doctor had this in their office. Just the photos along are gorgeous. My son and beautiful DIL love taking trips with their two kids. Decided to give as a Christmas present. They have used it already a couple of times and gives them precise overviews as each city is thoroughly assessed with activities. Makes a great coffee table book for anyone.

Excellent Wedding Gift!
We got this as a wedding gift and in turn gave it to several couples at their weddings as well! Very informative, colorful, and easy to read. Makes planning a quick weekend getaway a breeze! My husband is a SUPER planner when it comes to trips, and I thought he might think this book was encroaching on his territory - but he absolutely loves it! We can't wait to use it for our next weekend trip!

Excellent resource and worth the money
Bought for my first anniversary paper gift. When I first received it, I looked up my city which had all the stuff I recommend to other people, even down to restaurant recommendations. Several other cities I know all had excellent recommendations. That's how we knew to trust what this book had to say for places we've never been. We've used this book several times to help plan our trips and we are always very pleased. A lot of these in recommendations are on the NYT website, but the book is nice to have and looks beautiful on a shelf. Highly recommend this book.

Makes a great gift for your favorite traveler
My parents recently retired and plan to travel the country for the next couple of years for small weekend trips. This bag provided so much inspiration for them, and my daughter even took notes before gifting it. A great bucket list book for an avid traveler.

Makes me feel adventurous!
So this book has sort of a 90s encyclopedia feel to it. The cover is like a cloth sort of material and a mix between a hard and soft cover. The few places that I've been to (basically Toronto, New York and Philadelphia) are slightly disappointing. The events listed arent all that fabulous, BUT I excuse it because there are a lot of things to do in those cities so it will feel like a hit or miss to anyone. I had fun looking through the book because it made me feel adventurous and totally ready to travel again! I especially like the recommendations for the seaside towns (Boston, Providence, Martha's Vineyard) and the book has persuaded me to visit there one day! I'm only about 1/3 through the book (yes I'm reading each one meticulously) and I dont regret this purchase at all.

Interesting and Informative
I have been reading the "36 Hours" columns for many years. I used to cut them out and save them but lately have used the internet to find the columns that I needed. This book makes it much easier to find what I want and I have enjoyed reading many of the columns again. Also got some new ideas for short trips.I wish they would publish 2 other books of New York Times travel columns. The "Practical Traveler" column is packed full of useful information and would make a great book for anyone interested in travel . . . . . and why not a second volume of the "36 Hours" column featuring foreign destinations? I would buy both of them. I'd bet that many people would.
