You have to really be careful and look for the size charts (that they show now and then), and go a size up. I agree whoever wrote the description was either drunk or lost, it's very confusing. The fins are great my wife loves hers and using them every time we swim. I had to send mine back only because I have a large foot and they didn't come in "Sasquatch" size, the largest I found was US 13. I did find that Speedo had my size, (14). I highly recommend the fins as long as the fit is good , you can tell you working out. I also recommend dive socks with them it will save you from any blisters rubbing on your feet.

I don't know for sure, but would image that latex wouldn't have much longevity in chlorine and the stress of competitive swimming
