My son has a 3 year old Coleman 48-quart cooler/ice chest that he uses for everything from beach trips to trips up the coast, as well as for use at job sites and I have yet to see anything he puts in there not have ice left at the end of a day. "But wait! There's more!!" :D Last Friday not only did our a.c. freeze up and stop working, our refrigerator also broke down. In Florida. Average temps here were upper 80's during the day and around 70°F at night. In a household of 4 adults (including disabled grandmother...me) and 4 children, you just can't do without a fridge; unfortunately, the landlord couldn't get a repairman out until after the weekend...so we transferred all of the fridge stuff over to the freezer side, which crowded out a bit of the frozen food. No problem - my son commandeered his Coleman for several packages of frozen chicken, some ground beef (extra protected in waterproof giant zip locked bags) and a few bags of frozen vegetables, in addition to 4 - 6 , 33oz. water bottles. We lined the bottom of the cooler with all of the ice pack bags/plastic blocks we had, added a bag of ice, shoved in the frozen water bottles and then just fit in the overflow dairy, juice and leftovers that didn't fit into the freezer. We then added a bag of ice over the top. Now mind, I drink loads of water daily, so I was in and out of the ice chest all day, adding room temperature replacement water bottles each time. After the first two days the ice had reduced by a third and water had started collecting. I kept thinking it was time to add ice, but when I put my hand inside to clear the plug to drain it, the water was so cold that I couldn't keep my hand in there long enough to do so, so I left it! By late morning the next day - day 3 - the ice had completely depleted and the cooler needed to be drained...but I STILL had to use a spatula to keep the drain clear. Because of how icy cold the melted ice had stayed, I left about 4" of water in the bottom and added another bag of ice. By the time the repairman came on Monday, although the chicken had begun to thaw, it still felt "crunchy" with ice, but a third of the ice had still not melted. I credit part of the cold retaining ability to the fact that we used already frozen items in addition to ice and, as a previous reviewer mentioned, I drained the melted ice only enough to make it less heavy to move the cooler out of its niche. Hurricane season is on its way and I am preparing to move out of my son's house. But I decided that I had to get one of these Coleman ice chests as part of my emergency stand by things, just like candles, batteries and camp stoves/Sterno, I will now be prepared for just about anything. It arrived today, just ahead if a sudden storm that killed our power (came back on 20 mins later, so I didn't have a chance to use it, darn it!) I do like that this cooler has a standard, tightly capped drain plug that is situated so close to the bottom... hardly any tipping needed to empty it. I also like that the lid seals so tightly because the tighter the lid fits, the less cold escapes/less warm air seeps. Even my son's Coleman still seals snugly. I think the only thing I would like is some kind of retractable wheel thingy to help us physically challenged folks maneuver it a little easier! All in all, definitely recommend this Coleman ice chest. More than worth the cost.

This cooler is good for what it is, which is a basic, cost effective cooler. A sticker on it indicates it can keep ice for 3 days...I wouldn't put that to the test, but it is a good cooler for a backyard get together for the day. I stocked it with about 25-30 water and sports drink bottles and packed it with ice to the top. Loaded it up at about 1:30 in the afternoon. It sat in the sun part of the day, and was opened frequently. Dumped it out around 8:30 and there were still cups worth of ice cubes floating in the water and the drinks were ice cold all day. If you're looking for a high end cooler, this isn't it. It's not priced that way and doesn't offer the benefits of the pricey coolers. There are no wheels, foam insulation, drain spout, etc. If you drop it off if the back of a pickup truck, cross your fingers. If you're going to an off grid cabin and need ice to stay for 5 days, invest the money in something that has what you need. Know what you're buying and spending your money on. I'm giving this 5 stars because it did what I expected it to do for the price I paid for it and I know I can pull this cooler out when needed in the backyard to keep drinks cold for the day. If you're expecting more than what I've described for this price point, you should look into splurging for more features and greater durability. If you're just looking to pull out and fill a cooler for the day in the backyard to keep things cold and people happy, this did the job.

I needed a cooler for moving and was bouncing between very expensive ones, some metal, and this one. I ended up going with this because of the severe price difference. It stored about 20 lbs of food, packed full with frozen meats and it handled great. Yes, it is completely plastic, but the handles were solid and didn't feel like I could break them with basic lifting. It also kept sufficiently cold. I transported individually wrapped popsicles for over an hour, and they kept their shape! There are some annoyances, but for me not enough to dock a star given its price. The lid shuts very tightly and the handle to open it is not very large or grippy. I end up using a pocket knife to pry it open. Also the lid does not stay open, it wants to close if let go - I wedged my keys near the hinges to hold it open while I filled it. This is a very basic cooler for a great price. It's solid, heavy duty enough and does it's job well.

what you'll need in a power outage. I bought this because I have a habit of buying too many fresh vegetables at one time. Usually from farmers markets. So I put a cookie rack in the bottom and the veggies on top, add another cookie rack and the cold packs. Friends told me to buy an old fridge for basement or garage but I couldn't find one that I liked or was reasonably priced. This seemed the better idea. Then we had a power outage because of a snowstorm. I quickly pulled out the stuff in the refrigerator that we'd need ... milk, eggs, etc. ... and put it all into the cooler with the same set up as the veggie one. I grabbed a shovel, filled sturdy plastic bags with snow, and added it to the cooler. That way we didn't go into the refrigerator unnecessarily if at all. And snow is cheap and easy to use to keep the cooler contents cold. So my Coleman is great and practical. Who knows? When the pandemic passes and we travel again, maybe we will put it in the backseat of the car and load it with picnic things. Hey, now there's another idea for the cooler!

It's the rock bottom cheapest cooler of this size I have found and that said it works just fine. Someone said there is no insulation in between the two layers of plastic. There is. I drilled a hole in mine to attach a different drain so I could run a hose from it and I did see the insulation. Someone else said the top does not stay open. It does. If you flip it open it will flip back closed but if you open it and set the top open it stays there. As far as I am concerned it is a deal at the price.

I use as a baby bath tub. Its holding up well so far. I like that it provides room for my 7 months old long legs, plus deep enough for more splash fun (and the splashes are more well contained than the standard baby bath we used on bathroom counter.) We place this on the floor for safety and ease of use. Son loves it. Its his new favorite. He loves bath time! I did unscrew lid so that it wouldn't be in the way, then after tub dries, I put all bath stuff in and close it. He likes munching the sides and using it to help him stand, too. He also stands inside the tub making it easy to soap him up with a wash cloth. I like this because its cheaper than most baby bath tubs, and better bath fun. Plus, it will have multiple uses instead of a baby bath that gets outdated and given away or donated.

Love the size. It's sturdy and does the job. I don't like how the lid doesn't stay open. If you try to push it all the way back to open, it starts to peel off the white brackets on the back of the cooler that hold on to the lid. It's pretty cheap. So, it takes either one person to hold it open while the other loads it or you have to do the whole one shoulder holds it open while you try to load it. I would have thought I would received a cooler that didn't have the lid attached by stick on tabs that hardly bend. Wish I had known, would have spent $10 more for a better cooler.

Excellent cooler at a great price. I paid about $30 for this cooler for a cottage weekend when it was on sale and wasn't expecting much but it's great! I've used it a few times now both camping and bringing drinks places and it is leak-proof and keeps the ice from melting for a long time. A few people commented about the handle being tough to use but I haven't had any issues with it. Also, the spout on the bottom makes it so easy to empty out the old ice water.

Excelente hielera. No derrama nada de líquidos que ese era mi primer preocupación. Cupieron las 60 latas que dice más el hielo arriba. También un excelente precio y lo recibí un día después de la compra, gracias a ser Prime. La recomiendo muchísimo puesto que no la van a encontrar a este precio en ningún otro sitio. Es una muy buena inversion para los que consumimos latas de cerveza con frecuencia
