Great flash for 1/8th of the price for a professional flash
I ordered this flash because I am on a budget and couldn't afford to buy a $400+ flash unit for my Nikon D3100. Over the weekend I borrowed a friend's Nikon SB-600 flash unit and compared it to this polaroid flash unit, I must say the pictures are incredibly similar. You don't get the zoom/metering options on this flash but you still have the same exposure/flash control options that you have on your onboard flash. It also comes with a light on the front to help your camera with it's autofocus AND that light also dilates your subjects pupils before the flash fires to prevent red eye. I can honestly say that I am amazed at this flash because I really thought it would pale in comparison to the SB-600, but it does not. This flash is not bulky and is very light weight and produces amazing results especially when you bounce the flash off the ceiling for less harsh shadow/shine effects.THIS IS A GREAT BUY!

great flash but...
The flash seemed to work fine in the beginning, but after a couple of shoots it started to act up;it wouldn't be in sync with the camera when taking a picture or it wouldn't flash at all. This happened for about two events, which was kind of embarrassing, but now it seems to be back to normal. Maybe it was a problem on my side, but as far as I know the batteries were fresh and my camera settings were as usual. Regardless the flash is very bright and pictures come out looking great *even in complete darkness.

Doesnt' worth your penny
Well, I was impressed by the excellent reviews this item received, and bought this one for better indoor performance of my little D3000. But it ended with a return for refund, because the little flash can't even perform better than my little build-in flash. If you really want to improve your indoor pictures, go to a better one, even a chinese made YN-467ii or yn-460ii would be a better option.I don't really know why everybody were so crazy about this item, maybe they never use their build-in flash.

For the price, its a good flash...but you get what you pay for
If you can remember that you're only paying $50 for it, and be OK with that, then this is a great flash for you. I purchased this to be able to bounce flash with my Nikon D5100; to bounce off a ceiling it works great, but because you can only adjust the flash part instead of the whole head, you can't use walls, etc. to bounce. For this, I had to bite the bullet and return to pay for the SB-700.I found that directly on, it was a bit hot for me; I adjusted with flash compensation on the camera. For bounce flash off the ceiling though, it worked great! For the money, I don't think you can beat it. Its just limited in what it can do. To me, the build quality was a little cheap-feeling. But again, $50. What do you expect?

Defective
It wouldn't work. Straight from the box, I tried it after putting in the batteries. No response.. Where's quality control? I'm disappointed, that's the price I have to pay for its price.

Simple & Great
If you need a flash without all the gadgets & gizmos then this is perfect! It has a test flash button & an on/off button. That's it! I works PERFECT for what I need it for! And a great deal!

Spend money for one with diffuser
I am using the flash on the Nikon D5100. Using it indoor with flash bouncing off the ceiling works great. I can't get picture comparable to this using the internal flash. However, Direct flash within 10 feet caused picture to be over-exposed at automatic setting. I can manually adjust the exposure to compensate. Alternatively, a flash with diffuser will save me the trouble.
