Much Better Than I Expected
Absolutely beautiful and large book! For the serious scholar and/or spiritualist who wants more than just a surface interpretation of the Book of Going Forth By Day

Very large book
It's a beautiful book, the only issue I have with it (which is totally my own fault for not bothering to look at the dimensions) is that it's huge in size. Not thickness, but it's 9.5x14 (If I could find my ruler I would double check it, because I could swear it's even larger than that). There's no way it will fit on my bookshelf, one of my friends commented "This isn't a book, it's a tome!" I will end up having to lay it down on my bookshelf and put other books on top just so I can put it somewhere. But since the dimensions are clearly listed in the product details, I won't deduct a star. It really is my own fault. Moving right along... The artwork is beautiful, the pages are beautiful. It's really an impressive and gorgeous book and some pages even fold out. As if the hieroglyphics were too valuable to split up for another page, so they just made a larger page and folded it inward. Pretty clever. It's definitely worth the money you pay for it, but just be cautious...it is a very large book and won't fit on a standard bookshelf. I will probably end up buying another version, one that DOES fit on my shelf better, so that I can easily grab and go. This isn't a book you can take with you anywhere and read at your leisure, which is what I want in my books. Portability.

This is a great book. Here's a tip-
Ok, remember when you were a child and you couldn't read yet, so when you picked up a book, you looked at the pictures and "made up" the story based on that? Do that. I'm telling you, go back to being a child when you read this book. It's got weird, wacky images with trippy looking animal-people, hieroglyphics all over the place, it's from an ancient time and culture very different and mysterious to us, you're basically super illiterate with this crazy mess, right? Like a little child. So just like a little child, use your heart and your imagination when you read this book. It will not make sense to you if you read it with your rational brain. Trust me I tried. When I approached with wonder, it rewired my brain. It's all deeply symbolic and metaphorical, so you will start thinking in symbols and metaphors. (Ever see the movie "Arrival"?) This book is even oddly hilarious in some places, whether you "get it" or not. I think it's worth it, and you should trust me on this one.

Thorough, complete, scholarly; yet a very handsome book, cheap for what it is, too.
I've been learning Egyptian for a few years, and original texts to read are hard to come by. Here and there one can find a few transcribed things, often in some scholar's handwritten hieroglyphics; or (Allen's Middle Egyptian Literature for example) nicely typeset but the translation right there on the same page in such a way that you can't really work on it by yourself then check later, see if you got it right. But this Ani Papyrus is a gorgeous full-color reproduction (albeit of a composite papyrus, but they address that in the introductory material) of a long complete text, and although they give their translation with each plate, it's at the bottom of the page, which you can easily cover with a piece of paper while you struggle with your own reading. Purists will point out these aren't hieroglyphics strictly speaking, but cursive hieroglyphics, but that's close enough, doesn't pose any particular problems. There's a full introductory section about the papyrus, its history, etc. I was surprised how cheap this book was, given the dozen of superbly beautiful color plates.
