Amazing center channel
A good center channel is a must have in any surround system. To really hear the voices and the movie sounds your system has to be led by a good center channel. I finally got around to addressing this in my system and I replaced my 15 year old cheap center channel with the mb42c. This speaker is very good. It gives you great sound for vocals and all those movie sounds you didn't even hear if you had no center channel. I also play music through it too and it rocks plenty good. I pair this with my surround system and a subwoofer. The combo Is awesome. I also bought the micca covos speakers too. When all are working together you get great sounds. I have it running through a Yamaha receiver. The base on the mb42c is plenty good and just adds to it when the sub is going. I love watching movies and football games now on my system. A good sound system really makes a good tv come to life. Without spending a lot micca allows us to have good speakers and not have to spend a ton of money. For us husbands it's a lot easier to convince the wives to buy a good sound system at these prices..:) Update 11/30/15 I added the crossover. I ordered it from micca for 19.00. It really does add to this speakers performance. I noticed more clarity in the vocals and the base got a lot more punch in it. The install was not hard and took me 10 minutes. I recommend that people put the crossover in to really experience the capability of this center channel. It was a good speaker before, but now wow it has more power, more punch and increased clarity. I'm no expert, but I do know it sounds great. Update 9/30/18 This speaker still working great. The sound is just as good as when first bought it. I'd buy micca again in the future. Good products at good prices.

Here Is A Cheaper Way To Get The MB42X-C...
I bought a pair of Micca MB42X’s a while back and they were such an excellent buy for the quality and sound that when it came time to outfit my bedroom with a 5.1 system I wanted to buy TWO MB42X-C’s to use as mains and move my MB42X’s to the rear, already having a great JBL studio series center and a Klipsch 10” sub to throw into the mix. But as I was poking around I found that the MB42-C was only $49, and the crossover kit was $20 per speaker from miccastore.com and seeing that I could do the easy install of the crossover it would save me $20 on the pair I went that route. Besides I like to tinker with my stuff so the install was fun for me to do. Not to mention I was planning on putting in some poly fill in the speakers as I do with all my bookshelf speakers, so I was going to take the drivers out anyway. For me buying the MB42-C and crossover kit instead of the MB42X-C’s was a win-win situation. Using the upgraded MB42-C as my main speakers was the best idea I’ve had in a while. They have the same great sound as the MB42X’s but with a little more mid-bass punch and can go a little louder as well. The Klipsch sub anchors the whole system and goes loud enough to make small children wet their pants. The upgraded MB42-C sounds so good it’s hard to believe I spent only $138 total for my main speakers. The highs are crisp and detailed, mids are warm and smooth, and the mid-bass has a solid punch and a very pleasing overall sound. You are not going to find a better speaker arrangement for less than $150 anywhere. Needless to say I am extremely happy with my purchase. I have a great sounding budget system that rivals systems I’ve heard that are twice to three times the price easily. Sure the MB42X-C’s have the slick magnetic grills and a mat finish as opposed to the black woodgrain (which I prefer) , but all my speakers go naked anyway, plus I had the fun of installing the crossover and saved $20 for EXACTLY the same sound. No matter how you go with Micca, you are going to be pleased and have a system that is going to sound like you spent WAY more than you did. What more could you ask for? So if you are thinking about getting this speaker, stop thinking and put it (or them – buy two or three!) in your cart and click on that checkout button! You won’t regret it. Update: Now that I've got multiple hours of burn in time with these, the sound really opened up. Speaker burn in is not just a myth. They are a mechanical device. The more I played them the better they sounded, the bass output especially. They are a warm, punchy speaker with exceptional voice characteristics. A friend just bought Klipsch Reference R-15M speakers and was equally impressed with my two MB42-C's with crossovers. One key is that you need to set your receiver to "large speaker" to get the full potential of these.

Great with Xover upgrade.
I own Pioneer BS-22 LR and wanted a center channel. Most people would advise against buying a different brand center channel than your left and right channels. the matching center channel from pioneer was a huge box and i had no way to fit it in my cabinet. so i decided to take a gamble with micca. i must say i am glad i did. Impressions without the crossover upgrade Having a dedicated center channel certainly improves the voice clarity and dialogue but MB42C was not matching properly with my front 2 speakers for clarity mainly due to that fact there was no crossover in this and whenever i engage the center channel i felt like the sound which was supposed to be coming from the tweeters are coming through the woofer and the difference was very pronounced. i could see great improvement in clarity when i switched to stereo. This was still usable but since micca provided the crossover upgrade and it seemed like it would provide a considerable upgrade i decided to take a plunge With x-over Great upgrade and defenitely worth the price. Now the center speaker sound dissolves into the stereo speaker sound. There might be some slight difference because of different manufacturers and different speakers(Pioneer and Micca) but none that i could figure out. I dont have super ears and is just an average listener. The upgrade itself was very simple. Micca provided the hex key required to remove the drivers and terminal cup (all use same type of screw). All we need to do is replace the prewired terminal cup(you need to remove the drivers and disconnect the wires to remove the current terminal cup) with the new one in the upgrade kit . Connect them to the drivers as instructed in the sheet that comes with the package.(the tweeter postive wire was green in my kit but was described red in the instructions) . screw the terminal cup, and the drivers one by one and the upgrade is done if you own a micca bookshelfs this is your next logical upgrade it will improve the movie experience dramatically . it tells a great deal about the company when they sell parts to upgrade their existing products to better quality. if you own the miccas without the crossovers head to their website and do an upgrade. i am pretty sure you will appreciated the difference. My original impression for the product itself would be a 3 star but one additional star for the decision to provide the upgrade for a nominal price. update 11/2015 recently price of these dropped as low as 18$ so i went ahead and bought two of these for my friend for a stereo setup and ordered a pair of xover kits from micca store. Adding a few pics i took while i did the crossover upgrdade. I am sure after looking through it you will realize how easy it is

Wow, these do sound great! Even better with crossovers added.
I have a wall mount CD Jukebox that I tried some old satellite speakers on and it sounded pretty bad. I thought I'd try 2 of these center channel speakers as they fit the space and were inexpensive, and could handle 100w. I can't even begin to measure the sound improvement, just great! Bass is good, no subwoofer needed and treble sounds good too. The reviews are spot on, great product. Update: After about a week, I wanted to add passive crossovers to see if they would improve the sound even more. They did! It's a fair amount of work to do this, so you're likely better off purchasing the speakers with upgraded crossover included. These just include a small capacitor, which I removed to add the new crossovers. Separation of Bass and Treble is much better after upgrade.

Great speaker!
I bought this speaker for a center channel setup on a 5.1 system. I was lucky and picked it up on sale for $21. I also brought the crossover from the mica website and installed it. The process to install was very simple and it cost me $41 all together with extra xover. It was a great deal and sounds good. Of course the speaker is not full bass but I have not had any center speaker that was. It does have a good amount of bass for vocals and mixed with a subwoofer it is a perfect match. I would have even tried 2 for stereo setup with a sub but without a sub I would not expect room pounding bass. I would think this would be obvious but I seen some reviews saying not bassy enough and I just wanted to make note. It is a great deal on sale and even sounded good before the xover was installed. The xover just helps direct the frequencies better to the speakers that can handle that particular frequency and removes it from the ones that cannot handle those particular frequencies but it did sound good without it also. If you need a speaker I would recommend this and on sale it is like a steal. I could not be happier for the price I paid and quality. I had a really small cube for a center before this but this speaker sounds better and carries a great range for center sound. Just don't expect pounding bass.

Speakers that deserve their reputation as a best buy bang for the buck winner
The Micca MB42-C Center Channel Speakers are great bang for the buck speakers for small to medium sized home theater installations, especially when paired with a solid sub-woofer and a higher cross over point around 200Hz. The cabinets are relatively light weight 1/4" thick particle board, and it is a ported design, so expectations should be reasonable. But for the money the sound is great. I retro fitted the speakers with the owner DIY installed Micca crossover that is used in the much more expensive Micca MB42X-C and mid range quality improved noticeably. Not bad at all in the stock configuration. But the base Micca MB42-C Center Channel Speaker uses the natural roll off of the woofer to the tweeter without a crossover. That of course works. But it leaves a sort of no man's land where the driver frequencies overlap and the frequency response from one driver fades away and the the other fades in. The crossover is only $20 direct from Micca Store, and it's easy to install if you are careful. All in all a great small home theater system speaker. Although it's termed a center channel I bought five of them and they work well for all five points of a surround system if the speaker size and configuration settings on the amplifier are set correctly. RECOMMENDED.

*okay sound, good build quality- better after Micca x-over upgrade*
This speaker has a decent sound. It isn't great overall- a bit harsh in the midrange; lacking in the highs. The dialog/vocal sound is quite good and the bass is full (for 4" drivers). The design and build quality are exceptional for this price. Small, light, attractive & rigid; likely the best option for a center channel at $50. *I found the company helpful and responsive in my efforts to acquire a crossover upgrade for this speaker. (MB42X-C crossover now available as seperate purchase for this speaker at the Micca Store website- simple procedure; just swap out the old terminal plate with the new one + x-over). I installed it and the sound is much better. Highs are more pronounced, the mid is cleaner. The bass and the vocal/dialog ranges remain (pleasantly) unchanged. An overall more balanced sound- worth the effort and additional expense ($20). If you don't mind going larger, I'd recommend stepping up to a Polk Audio center channel (for just a few bucks more).

Quite big.
Not too expensive replacement for the small satellite speaker that came with a 5.1 set. Good quality sound, but does take up quite a lot of space.
