Good soup!
I bought this on sale 40% off clearance price. It came out to about $0.62 per cup. Nice price! I like the taste. It's like mild-medium spiced. It vaguely reminded me of spicy bean soup. The couscous definitely has flavor (as opposed to most couscous I've tried). Someone with a light appetite could eat this as a meal. I believe it is vegetarian. I think it's a great value for good tasting food, and I would definitely eat this often. It's basically like a healthier "cup-o-noodles" because you just add hot water, wait, and eat it. If you care about the nutritional value, read on. It's only 200 calories, low in fat, no saturated fat, has carbs for energy, has fiber (4g, which is 14%DV), has a decent amount of protein from the couscous and lentils, which by themselves are low in protein, but together they fill out each other's gaps in essential amino acids (10g, I believe you need about 50g in a day)), and has iron (15%DV). The only downside might be the sodium. It has 730mg (30%DV) of sodium, but isn't too bad if you're eating it as a meal or if the rest of your day's food is lower in sodium. Great soup, quick, easy to make, tasty.
This is one of my favorite instant soups. It has a lot of flavor and is very satisfying and filling. I like the "boil water and add to dry mix" method better than soups where you add water and then microwave. It's simple, easier, no boil over mess, and I get consistently good results every time. The soup is thick with nice texture and a great smoky split pea soup flavor. Using subscribe and save, the price is reasonable. A very convenient and quick meal. I let mine steep a bit longer for extra flavor. I also very much like the Nile Soup Lentil Soup Cup ( 12x1.8 OZ) soup. The Nile Spice line of soups seems to be a bit better quality than some of the others I've tried. Stronger flavors and consistent from one batch to the next. Recommended.

... tried a powdered pea soup at my supermarket and loved it. Unfortunately they tend not to keep it ...
Recently I tried a powdered pea soup at my supermarket and loved it. Unfortunately they tend not to keep it in stock so I looked online for one I could order and ended up ordering a package of these. You would think that you can't screw up pea soup any more than you can screw up boiling water, but Nile Spice somehow managed that feat. The soup is, for the most part, very bland. But the worst part is they decided to add chunks of carrots. Now, I know you're thinking, "But, carrots go in pea soup, whats wrong with that?" What's wrong with that is carrots do NOT go well in dehydrated soups. Even giving twice the allotted 5 minute soak, you still end up with only partially hydrated pieces of carrot jerky in the soup. They are both too big to ignore, and too small to simply pick them out. The soup is, because of that, inedible. There is no smooth texture, or soft vegetable pieces. Just pea soup with chunks of carrot with the consistency of wet toothpicks - and not just some, but tons of them in every spoonful. After trying 2 of these the rest were sent back to Mother Earth via the local dump.

Easy, delicious lunch!
I've used Subscribe & Save for many products, but this is my favorite! Add hot water, then let it sit for 5 minutes before eating---easy! The soup is thick and flavorful, with bits of onion, carrot, and celery (the label also lists potatos, but I've never noticed them). I've always had ham in my split pea soup, but don't even miss it in this. Comparing the Nile Spice split pea with a brand name can of split pea w/ham & bacon soup from my cupboard, per serving: the sodium content is lower in the Nile Spice soup (600 mg vs. 850 mg), and it has more fiber (8 g vs. 5 g) and protein (13 g vs. 10 g). Nile Spice is 200 calories, the brand name serving has 180. Overall, this is big bang for the buck. I have it at least once a week for lunch at work, and with a piece of fruit, it's the perfect amount to hold me til late afternoon.

Great snack!
These little cups of couscous are superb snacks. The curry is not spicy enough to throw you off, and the lentils are a great choice. The taste of the couscous is just right: a hint of curry, and the nutty smoothness of lentils. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because of the 12 cups, three contained a mix that seemed to have gotten moist somehow. All the others contained a very loose, dry couscous mix. These are great to take with you for lunch (as long as you can get your hands on some boiling water). I'd maybe take a chicken breast or a cup of other veggies to toss with the couscous so that it becomes more of a meal, but as a snack? Great!

Terrible texture and so-so flavor...
Ever eaten grit? Not 'grits' but road grit? I have tasted it, unfortunately, and this stuff reminded me of my awful experience. The flavor does not offend, but is nothing to get excited about either. Not recommended.

Okay at best.
So, this product was purchased in my ongoing quest to make healthier choices for foods to eat on work days. I adore lentils and am a fan of curry flavors, so I thought this would be a good fit. It also has 200 calories per cup. It's actually pretty tasty IF you manage to prepare it properly, but that's the catch- It overflows easily if microwaved. It takes a long time for the lentils and curry to absorb properly so you don't end up with a weird, crunchy bugs and sand texture. The flavor is a nice, subtle curry. Not spicy, which is frustrating because I am a spicy lover and I keep buying foods on amazon with a curry flavor which don't turn out to have the spicier, face melting curry flavor I'm hoping for. This product makes a very nice soup starter if you want to add some veggies and hot sauce and cook it on the stove. But as a quick meal to prepare and eat on your lunch break, it's kind of fail.

Vegan Natural Choice
Vegan. Natural. Low calorie. Low fat. Thick & hearty for an instant soup. Great lentil veggie taste. Easy, lightweight take-along for anywhere you can get or make hot water. I love vegan soups. An instant soup along with a few pieces of crispbread in a ziplock bag makes a great lunch. Instant soups are also a great flavor maker for your own soup creations. Try using one cup of instant soup as a flavorful broth or base to add with beans and/or your favorite fresh veggies. Use your imagination and enjoy. Easy and fun. Prepare the instant soup and then add to the simmering or pre-cooked bigger pot containing the other ingredients. Heat together, stir, and serve. 170 calories, 11g protein, and 540mg sodium per cup. When preparing the cup of soup, it is important to let it stand re-covered as recommended for 5+ minutes and stir well. Verified all vegan ingredients including the 'natural flavors' with Nile Spice Consumer Affairs on 2009-01-29. [Inquired about all their instant soups as to which were vegan.] Also really like Nile Spice Minestrone Soup, Low Fat, 1.5-Ounce Cups (Pack of 12) . Easy Peasy
Easy to fix. just add boiling water and stir. Tastes good, surprisingly high fiber. add some cheese and crackers and you have a satisfying meal in minutes. The bean soups are equally tasty. Supposed to be in my local supermarket but no one is stocking it, even stores that normally do. Don't know what that is about but I like this one well enough to order a box. Seems slow to deliver compared to ordering books.
