It's both fun and very effective against flies!
Much like your traditional bug zapper, this thing will get gooky with insects. I'm sure a antistatic brush or compressed air will blow the grill out. It seems to absolutely annihilate colonies of fruit flies quick on fresh batteries. It certainly does the job but if they begin getting away I suggest replacing the batteries because the arc loses power. It seems a bit sturdy in design though I wouldn't suggest swinging it around at a quick speed like a actual racket. It'll probably break if it hits something hard. Pressing it against a wall where flies landed seems very effective as they just fly right into it and cook away. It saves the trouble of fruit fly traps as this thing is pretty much a electrified tennis racket. It reminds me of a modded weapon from a video game. Lol. Even though I ordered the medium size it still is effective against flies in mid flight as well. Pops them right out of the air. I will probably try it against yellow jackets eventually. If you plan on purchasing it for lots of insects. I suggest getting plenty of batteries.

It works best on mosquitos, but there's an issue with too small and too big bugs...
I bought it to take out mosquitos, and it does that really well. Hold the button, move it over the mosquito, they should get moved through the protective (for you) grill easily and get zapped with a few pops and sparks. Then you shake them out of the net (or find where they fell) Very clean and simple. Now the first issue is that protective mesh.. as other reviewers have noted for many products like this, it's hard to get big house flies to make contact with the electric net through it. Also, the voltage isn't enough to kill them outright. However, when you do get contact, it can stun them, making them easier pickings for a piece of tissue or even a spray. I still find this easier and cleaner than chasing them around with a fly swatter or chemical spraying the whole kitchen down in the process. And of course, gnat sized bugs, fruit flies? Pretty much just pass right through easily. But for fruit flies, just look up the apple cider-in-a-glass solution. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with this device.

Goodbye Flies!!!
So, every summer we get a bad fly problem due to this white mulberry bush in our back yard. It's seriously SO terrible! They mostly stay outside, but we do always end up with a lot inside. We decided to try this out after we were unable to shoo all the flies out the window and we bad at swatting then ourselves. Within 10 minutes of starting to use this they were all gone! Seriously so simple and quick to use, and a little fun too. And to me what makes it better than a traditional swatter is your KNOW it is dead cuz you hear the zap sound! And it isn't a quiet zap either! We've had a few stragglers that we're hiding during our initial sweep, but I think they're officially all gone now. Works better and faster than fly strips!!! We even plan to take it on our next camping trip to see how it helps with mosquitos too.

Works well if you can snap up the bugs
This gets the bugs if you can snare them.

Great Gadget if you hate mosquitos.
I love this thing. The other night I heard a mosquito buzzing around my head while trying to sleep. I grab the racket, swung it around and a few moments later…success.

Bad item
Jump. Doesn't do much for the bugs. Waste of money

Small but sort of effective
Ok, but very small. Not even close to racket size.

Works great!!!
Man this thing really zaps flying bugs, you definitely hear and see the bugs getting "whacked." Just be careful when swinging it, you can easily damage or break something!!
