what is the black plastic peice for?

It closes to cover the radio faceplate. Only way it's water tight

Any radio will fit the housing. But beware...I broke the lid after 4 days of opening and closing. FYI

Does pyle pldmr3u fit this housing?

Yes it is made to fit but you need to ensure the metal sleeve is in place and not bent so the radio catches the locking springs to hold it in place. the instructions gloss over this but it is in there.

My am/fm/cd radio is 6" long x 7" Wide x 2" high. Will it fit into this housing?

yes it will, there is a face plate that fits those dimensions that holds the radio and then as 1 unit , you attach that to the housing with four screws. hope that helps, i will advise you tho the cover, faceplat part, the smoky colored peice has plastic hinges and will fail after repeated use, i had to add aftermarket hinges to secure it properly and keep it watertight. i will still buy it again as the price is right. hope that helps
