awesome device great price
just got this yesterday and I must say I was kind of expecting it to be a failure and more of a toy but to my amazement thus cool little device actually works really good and is decently sensitive. the device its self is actually really big (about the size of a tennis ball) and it fairly well built and also a good 3oz and is better trolled behind a boat or kayak at low speeds. It is easy to setup and takes about 10min for first setup and linking afterwards takes about a minuet the app is free to download and works wellthe only downfall is that its a really big device and really heavy so casting it is a high risk of snapping the line unless you have 20+ pound line or you like swimming after a runaway green blinking bobber. I definitely recommend not using a bait caster because you will backlash and lose this device due to the wind catching on the fins.Over all I used it in the bay and cast a line in places where it shows fish on the screen and sure enough about 50% of the time there was a fish. in 2 hours I caught 5 bass while my 2 brothers only caught 2 fish each so it does workits a cool device to entertain you for a good time while fishing and its the best bang for your buck so far that I have discovered anyway in the portable fish finder category

Dead out of the box
I know vexilar is a very good sonar but when I open the box the plastic cover was cut open and the wifi is not working. This looks like a scam

This little unit is a great tool. I first used it for jigging through ...
I am a serious fisherman, I fish for striped bass from my kayak and from shore, fly fish and troll for brook trout and salmon and ice fish for lake trout. This little unit is a great tool. I first used it for jigging through the ice for lake trout in 35' of water. I could see my jig (if I used a larger sized jig, small ones dissapeared) and watch as fish came in to check it out. Once spring came, I used it to mark suspended salmon during ice out trolling. Worked great trolled a few feet behind the boat. Good bottom definition and marked fish clearly. This summer I have been using it when I am vertical jigging for suspended stripers in water from 30-150 ft. It has worked great and has shown me exactly where the fish are holding and where to focus in the water column. I really like the portability and versatility. My only complaint is the 4 hour battery life. On an all day trip you have to make sure to pull the tpod when not necessary to save life.

Solid performance from Vexilar.
It's a solid performer, no question. Slight quibbles, but totally satisfied at the price point.1. Non-replaceable battery. That's going to be an issue sooner or later. This is tempered by the $60 rebuild offer, but still, it's going to need a battery someday, and it would be nice if that entailed a screwdriver and a gasket, rather than a return and rebuild.2. Would it kill you to put a card with a list of instructions? I don't need a 300 page manual, but a simple quickstart. Download app, apply damp towel to transducer, set your smartphone device to receive WIFI from the TPod, enter password 12345678, follow onscreen instructions to complete setup. See? I just did it. It could even be printed on the side of the box. I wasted a few inutes trying to connect with the pod plugged in to charge, I figured that would let it broadcast. Nope, it's got to be damp.3. At the river, it seemed solid, although at one point, it suddenly changed it's mind, displaying 23 feet briefly, otherwise a steady 12-12.5 feet. Briefly lost connection once, a simple tap to reconnect.4. At a murky and weed-choked pond, it could not read at all. To be fair, the pond was absolutely infested with hornwort, opaque as iced coffee, probably non-navigable. Still surprised it couldn't shoot through, I guess a weed bed wold read a false depth? With all that, I am a shorebound angler, and this is a phenomenal tool for my purposes. With a 12' heavy rod, I can probably cast it as far as I can cast a bait rig, and get a better read on the conditions of the water, in a fraction of the time, as I could with a marker float.

Defective Unit?
I may have gotten a defective unit, but for me this unit didn't work at all. It read a constant 0.0 depth no matter where I threw it. It also wouldn't work when I tried to test the unit with a wet paper towel. The only possible thing I could think of is that I got a defective product. I really really really wanted this to work, this product is a dream for us with bad eyes and dont want to stare a 3 inch screen, and don't want to spend 1200 bucks on a touchscreen 10 inch unit. Ill wait until they create a Side imaging/Down Imaging product to purchase again.

Nice fishfinder for a kayak
The Vexilar T-Pod arrived quickly and in good shape. The app was easily installed on my iPhone 4S that I keep in a LifeProof Case and then in a floating pouch around my neck.I first set it up in my pool, but the hard concrete bottom and only 5 feet of depth seemed to make it difficult to get consistent readings. This improved as I decreased the gain, but I never got it to work consistently in the pool.I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED when I took it out into Clearwater Bay on my kayak. It performed flawlessly as I pulled it behind my kayak. I will use the included arm strap for my next adventure because my only issue was having to stop paddling to reach my phone. This really is a great step forward in what we can do with our smart phones and a great fishfinder in moderately shallow waters. I look forward to taking it down to the Keys and seeing how it does out on the reef in about 100 feet of water. This was a great buy and really worth the price I paid for it. I do, however, wish it had about 8 hours of battery life instead of 4 hours.
