Refreshing Bay Rum—A Classic Aftershave for the Modern Man!
I’ve been a fan of Clubman products for years, and the Virgin Island Bay Rum did not disappoint. The scent is so unique—it has that signature bay rum spice but with an added tropical twist. It feels great after a shave—cooling, soothing, and no irritation. The fragrance isn’t overpowering, but it sticks around for a while, which I love. Whether I’m heading to work or out for an evening, it’s perfect for all-day wear. Plus, the bottle is huge, so it’s a great value for the price!"

Just what I was looking for. Refreshing feel, lovely smell
4 Month Review -After switching from Mach III razors Below is the listed product I am using as part of my "Shaving Arsenal." It took me a while to find each piece needed to bring it all together. My approach was finding all the pieces that had the best reviews vs. price. Just about everything listed below was the "highest price" but luckily these items don't cost much. Not CLOSE to as much as it costs to shave with Mach III Safety razors. If your ready to make the switch to a superior, and cheaper, alternative then check out the products below. After Shave: Virgin Island Bay Rum by Clubman I've tested several types of Aftershave in stores but never found anything I liked. Based on reviews I had a hunch I would really like this. Once it arrived I was right! It gives me a very fresh feeling after my morning shave, and has an amazing smell which isn't overpowering at all. My wife is very sensitive to smells but this is one she actually admires. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000053L6W/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2 Handle: Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor. The first thing I noticed about this handle is the quality. You can tell its not your basic cheap piece of metal. Its got a comfortable weight to it, keeps its brilliant chrome finish, and clean up is quick and easy. I consider myself a man with normal size hands and don't know why this one is considered "long handled." Its just a tad longer than the Mach III razor I used to use. However, it’s a night and day difference compared to those "Safety razors." It cuts very close with minimal passes. I've never had a shave that was this close before. http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Model-180-Handled-Safety/dp/B000NL0T1G/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1355613524&sr=8-10&keywords=double+edge+razor+handle Blades: 7a.m. Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades I've heard there are better blades on the Market but since I started out with a 100-pack it will be 2-YEARS until I need to buy any more since I change them out once a week. I'm half Filipino so I don't have the thickest facial hair but definably pull off a goatee without a problem. Other than one "Dud" all other blades have been very predictable and easy to use. I have gotten the occasional razor burn but that appears to be normal with any Double-edged razor. I was worried I would be opening myself up to more "risk" with these but feel that I am at no more risk than any other safety blade now that I am used to it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017ZECA6/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_32 Stand: Safety Razor stand Once I learned that a stand was needed for the "Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush" I decided to go with this one. Its been 4 months and the chrome is still shining well. Its sturdy, and holds my double edged razor as well as the shaving brush as if this product was made just for them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001XURHNY/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_42 Brush: Not sure why its made of "Badger" hair but its working. Where this brush looses a star is because it lost some of its bristles during the first week. Since then there haven't been any more hair-loss and I've had no problems. 4 months going strong. It creates a nice lather and feels good against the skin. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G647Y8/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_47 Shaving Soap: Prosaro Shaving Soap It works but I with it had more lather. Based on previous reviews, it sounds like the amount of lather has significantly decreased. Does it work? Yes, but I like a good lather. Anyways, its been 3 months and I feel like I have maybe gone through half of this container which isn't bad. It also has a very fresh but subtle smell which I really like. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00837YY18/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_44?ie=UTF8&redirect=true Soap Bowl: Guess I didn't need this since I am using the Proraso Shaving Soap which is self contained. For as simple as it is, it lost two stars. There is a rim that goes along the bottom that has (or had) a black rubber piece that ran around it to provide a good footing for the Bowl while on a counter. The very first day this part fell off, it didn’t seat on there, and it wasn't glued. In the garbage that piece went. The next star was lost due to finish. It was a pretty flat finish for chrome and you could see the several light scratches across it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00404RI70/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_35

Classic aftershave, great scent
Classic. Delish. Get yourself a double edged razor. One day, when it all comes together, you’ll splash this on your face after a shave and go one to have a really nice day. VI Bay Rum smells great. All bay rums are a bit different but they all hover around the same thing, and to me it’s always good. This is no exception. Can’t beat the price. Get one.

Decent starter aftershave if you like cloves
Pretty good scent. Very clove heavy. It definitely smells artificial compared to higher end bay rum after shaves but it’s a good start for the arsenal

Smells great! Fades really quickly.
Day three of using this stuff and it smells great when you first apply it, but after about an hour you just cant smell it anymore. I keep asking my wife and co-workers to smell me to make so I just didn't go nose blind, they cant smell it either. People are getting tired of me asking. I thought maybe I wasnt using enough so I put on A LOT this morning. A lot more than I was comfortable with and I can barely smell it as Im sitting here writing this review. I swear by the Clubman Pinaud After Shave and wanted to try something different but so far im a little disappointed which is a shame, because it smells really good!! Ill most likely go back to using the Clubman Pinaud After Shave once this one runs out. UPDATE - Ok so this morning I decided to go all out and used about a teaspoon amount. It was enough for my neck, cheeks, and the tops of my shoulders. I walked out of the shower and my wife told me I smell great. She didn't say it was overpowering. Even now, a good 7 hours later, im getting faint whiffs of it (mostly cloves). So far no one has complained about it being overpowering or that I smell like I was just at the bar. So lesson learned - use WAY more than you think you need if you want it to last a while. I also noticed that the fragrance does intensify if your body heat rises. Like it you are out in the summer sun or working out, etc.But it only intensifies to the point of where I would like it to be all day on its own. Overall verdict - Love the smell. Probably one of my favorite aftershave/colognes. And, although this is purely a materialistic issue, I love the design on the bottle and seeing it with all my other "manly" shaving stuff. Wish it were stronger and I didn't need to use so much to have it last longer than an hour. As I said before, this is probably a "one and done" for me and ill be switching back to Clubman Pinaud After Shave Lotion, 6 Ounce once its gone. Thanks for reading!

The classic
Fancy as some of the expensive brands? Maybe not, but offers that traditional Bay Rum scent at a very good price. A barbershop classic.

My favorite everyday aftershave.
Strong enough to soothe my skin, with a unique and pleasant scent that doesn't overpower.

Smells like the barber shop
In the barber shop where I grew up, after trimming the sideburns and cleaning up the back of the neck with a straight razor, my barber would always use an after have lotion to cut down on irritation. I remember loving the smell of it and how it went on and soothed without too much of any burning. I never knew what that stuff was and I never thought to ask (hey I was a dumb kid back in those days what do you want from me). After reading lots of reviews on Amazon saying that this stuff is what their barber uses, I picked some up. At first I was concerned it was going to be a flop. At first application it had a really spicy scent which smelled mainly like cloves. After a few minutes of soaking in though, it smelled exactly like the stuff I remember! I am happy to have found it once again. After all, I don't have much hair these days so I don't get to go to the barber unless my son is getting his hair cut. It has a manly scent that is a bit strong at first, but then mellows out and is perfect. Not too strong but very present and it works well with my col. conk Bay Rum Shaving soap. I like it a lot and can't imagine it being disliked by many. If you have never smelled bay rum before, think somewhere along the lines of Old Spice only not so brutally intense or strong and a little more sweet. Considering its 12 ounces for less than 20 bucks its a great deal. Should last me a while since its not my main after shave (I'll just use it time to time for nostalgia I suppose). For the price it's not much of a risk to purchase and if you don't like it you certainly will find someone who will gladly take it off your hands. The only reason I am not rating it a full 5 stars is because it comes in a cheap plastic bottle. The plastic is very thin and flimsy and makes it difficult to pour out just the right amount without accidentally getting too much or too little. Makes the overall presentation feel a bit cheap, but then at a little more than a dollar an ounce I guess it is kinda cheap...in a good way.
