Instant Relief and Very Easy to Use
This Vicks personal steam inhaler works amazingly well for congestion and sinus relief. The warm steam provides instant comfort, and using it with the VapoPad makes breathing much easier. It’s compact, simple to set up, and perfect for quick relief at home. I love that it’s drug-free and targeted, so I can use it whenever I need. Great quality as expected from Vicks—highly recommended for anyone dealing with allergies or colds!

Works Great Very Nice Steam Inhaler
The unit is approximately 8-1/2 inches high and 5-1/2 inches wide, It has an on/off switch, soft inhaler hood, and air flow levers to adjust the steam flow. It is easy to fill with water and clean after use. We followed the advice of another post, and bought some 100% cotton make up removers/cleansing rounds by Equate they're 60 to a package, and cost $2.37. Then we bought a 4 ounce bottle of the KAZ liquid inhalant, it's cost was $2.38. I made a small hole in the center of one of the flat round cotton pads and lightly dabbed a little of the inhalant around the surface of the pad. Then placed the pad over the center post. The pads are slightly larger than the sample (1) KAZ aromatic inhalant pad that came with the unit. You can trim them to fit or tuck them in around the inside of the inhaler hood. We kept our face 3 to 4 inches off the soft inhaler hood and breathed in the soothing vapors. The steam vapors can get very hot, so keep a comfortable distance away, and adjust the steam flow with the flow levers around the inhaler hood. This unit works very well giving a 5 to 15 minute treatment depending on the amount of water added to the reservoir. Both my wife and I used the inhaler with very good results. It really does help clear the sinuses when you suffer with a cold or allergies. We are both very happy with the product. Hope this helped.

Works well, but crusts over quickly.
Like I said in the title, it works. It works well! But it gets crusty very fast. I use this for two reasons: for one, as a singer, I need to keep my vocal cords hydrated even in Midwestern miserable dry and cold seasons. This gives me targeted relief. Your throat-coat teas are nice, but don't actually help hydrate your vocal cords. This does. Plus, if your sinuses aren't clear, they will be, because you'll get the impossibly gross experience of all your phlegm suddenly leaking out of your skull as the steam permeates. Yummy. For two, we learned the hard way that running whole-home vaporizers damages our furnace. If we can't create a more comfortable macroenvironment, I need this little thing to at least ease my microenvironment. It takes a little time to heat up, but once it does, you get a good 20 minutes of steam. Hold your head over it and just breathe it in. Read a book or something. I sit at the kitchen table with this on and do crosswords. It needs to rest on something stable and flat, so it's not something to have in your lap while lying on the couch, but it's fine for sitting at the table. Maybe it's because of Iowa water, though, but you have to scrub limey grit off after pretty much every use even if you filter your water. That's really it - it gets crusty quickly, and I'd like it if the cords were longer. Otherwise? It does the job and cuts down on the notorious Midwestern winter bleeding sinuses.

It works and has been used 4-times. Hoping this unit does the trick. *New Update To Original Post*
**Update** This seems to be working after the 6th day, we've noticed a huge drop on coughing, headache, sinus congestion. Still not a 100% healed, but can't believe an infomercial of another brand helped me/us figure this out. 3 doctors couldn't, friends and family couldn't. It was that infomercial and reviews right here on Amazon that had me jump online and get this and so far seeing major results and we're talking 90-solid days of basic bed rest. If it clears it 100%...I'd have to say this is my best Amazon purchase I've ever made. ***Original Post*** Severe Sinus Congestion, Aging Allergies... almost 3-months trying everything. So far this has gave some relief similar to a warm bath. 6-different types of RX have failed. Furnace Filters, Electronic Masks, Have a Power Vac Company coming to suck out the vents. Trying to find answers here. Friend at the game yesterday said he knows a guy who tried everything, even Chemo pills & finally had to remove all his carpets from the bacteria inside the carpet. Our carpets were replaced 3-years ago and cleaned/vacuumed regularly. Maybe our dog... I don't know. If it comes down to it and this unit doesn't cure the problem. We can remove the carpets, we'll just do that. This machine works just fine & want to thank Vick's for keeping it reasonably priced compared to other steam inhalers.

Great--But Be Careful!
I'm having more problems with my sinuses, and I was hoping this might provide me some relief. It works wonderfully! I was shocked, though, at how hot it actually gets. You should not use this product or give it to someone who cannot support themselves. You may have to adjust yourself during treatment to prevent burns. At first, you may put your face into the mask, but as the water heats up it gets so hot that you need to lift your head up to keep from getting burned. I keep the inhaler on the minimum steam setting. My only complaint is that those Vix Vapopads fall out easily and are rather annoying to place. They are very potent, so you only need one--though the holder can accommodate two. Because this item does get so hot, be certain not to put cold water into it after it has been heated up, and to keep it away from cool temperatures. Also, make sure the water doesn't totally evaporate during use, and don't use it for more than 15 minutes. You have to wait for it to cool down before you can clean it. I would think it would be best to also follow their advice on upkeep, like cleaning it with vinegar after every 10 uses. If you are putting it away, make sure it dries thoroughly first...and look under the par that holds the Vapopad. The underside is easy to overlook, and it gets quite a bit of moisture.

Steamer works as expected to relieve congestion.
Pros: Price, ease of use. Lever to adjust steam flow. Cons: Requires care to avoid steam burns which is partially accomplished by continually adjusting the distance between your face and the mask. Mild plastic smell. Needs an auto shutoff. Other: I do not consider the restriction to place steamer on a water resistant table or other stable flat surface as a con. At this price I don't expect extensive safety features required to keep from spilling boiling water on the user when hand-held. I might pay a few dollars more for a timer or auto-shutoff. I bought this to relieve congested sinuses. I did not use any of the Vicks add-in fragrances. I followed the directions carefully, including NOT pressing my face against the soft mask at the top AND NOT hand-holding the device (set on a non-movable waterproof surface). I also used the adjustment lever to cut the steam to my face to about 30% of wide open. The steam loosened my sinus congestion and the relief lasted for a couple of hours. I was pleased that this part worked as expected. So far, I have not experienced any cracking in the plastic that other reviewers have described. I checked with my doctor, and he said he could see not harm in using it for a few days at a time. Originally, I intended to use this each evening and each morning for congestion. I had one mishap. I put water in the steamer and turned it on the heat (3-5 minutes). Unfortunately, when I sat down to wait, I feel asleep, and the device ran dry. We have a lot of calcium in our water and the calcium deposits peeled away from the center heating element. However, I could see no cracks or other damage to the interior of the water reservoir. When I tried the steamer, it worked perfectly, and the plastic smell was lighter or unchanged. Concerns: The mild plastic odor suggest that some chemical is released by the steamer. Suggestions to the manufacturer: The reservoir is very small, and so the steamer needs an auto shutoff in case it runs dry. Also a beep to indicate that the reservoir is up to steam-producing temperature would be useful. I would like a timer or perhaps beeps sounded at 5 minute intervals to help time how long I've been breathing steam. I deducted one star for the plastic odor and another star for not having a run-dry shutoff.

Worked great until a manufacturer's defect turned it into a sour experience.
I loved it. It worked great! It helped my rhinitis due to a deviated septum. Until the plastic tabs that held the top portion to the base started cracking and breaking off. I've bought this in March, it is now November. Still under warranty, right? Yes, it is. I've sent photos of the broken tabs. The plastic became brittle over the months for some reason, so I contacted Kaz, who is the parent company of this Vicks Personal Steam Inhaler. They were polite--mostly because the emails were from a pre-written script. I've sent them all my information: address, photos, copy of receipt, date code that's stamped on the plug of the unit. Then they want me to send it in so they can send me a replacement. So this item was close to $30 but not quite $30 when I bought it. The shipping would have cost me approximately $15 to ship it to Kaz for a replacement. So why should I pay for shipping a defective item to the manufacturer that would cost more than half the price of the unit? I shouldn't be paying for shipping the defective item back to the manufacturer due to a manufacturer's defect. Kaz customer rep told me it's the standard warranty procedure many other major companies use. I've written back to them telling them over the last 20 years, Bionaire/Sunbeam, Oxo, Vornado, Simplehuman, and Waterpik have never told me to pay for shipping a defective unit back to them. If I dropped the unit and broke it, that's my fault. This is a manufacturer's defect (not my fault) and they want me to pay for shipping the unit to them. So before you buy any of the Kaz's line of products, just hope that you will never have to send your unit in because of a manufacturer's defect. Their warranty is inferior to other great companies. They lack the integrity other major companies possess. UPDATE: So I've tried to post a review on Vicks website on my experience dealing with their company. Pressed "submit review" and guess what came back!?! "Error submitting review." Their website wouldn't allow me to post an unfavorable review!
