Perfect for our asthmatic household. *Updated
My toddler and I both have severe allergies and asthma. To the point that over the past month we have both been having major issues with the pollen and smog in the air, even with being home most of the time! I ordered this one after doing A LOT of research, and I decided this was the best for the money. With a true HEPA filter that you replace once a year (opposed to once a month) it would save money in the long run. I chose this one for the den in our house and over the coming weeks we will be getting smaller ones for the bed rooms. This review for right now is 24 hours in to having it on in the house, and later I will come back and add to it. Set up was easy straight out of the box, and I put it out of traffic areas in the house. I was worried with where I put it there would be trouble for good air circulation, but it is doing great! In fact with it on high I noticed a tag on the other side of the room (directly across) was moving on one of the toys yesterday as I was cleaning. Then I cooked fish last night (our den has an open doorway to the kitchen), and I couldnt even smell it cooking!! I decided to test it this morning, and sat on the couch painting my nails. Even using nail polish remover I couldnt smell it!!! (which astounds me b/c I hate doing my nails simple b/c of the toxic fumes!!) As far as noise, its not that bad. On high, with the tv and with kids running around it is a little white noise and thats it. I sleep with the bed room doors open, and having a tower computer on in the den annoyed me, however on medium I couldn't even hear it in the den! It also moves a lot of air b/c even when the ac isnt blowing air, it feels like it is b/c of this tower! I am super excited at the thought of having better air quality in the house so we dont have as many issues, and I know it will take probably a good month for me to be able to judge that (and trust me I keep up with our flair ups b/c my son sees a specialist so I can tell you if it will make a difference or not). I also liked the UV light, since we have kids over to play all the time it makes perfect sense to have it to. Also anyone that has lung issues, make sure to avoid any purifier that has the ion part (where you turn it on for a fresh smell) it actually causes lung problems (if you have underlying problems). Oh and check out the reviews on walmart . com for this purifier, it has hundreds of reviews and most are five star (which is one of the reasons I went with this model even though not everyone loved it on here). Check back in August and I will add an update =) ****************************UPDATE****************************** 12/2/2012 Hi ALL! Sorry took me so long to come back and update =) Fortunately if you see below I did give a heads up three weeks in we still loved it. This unit is holding up well, and really does a good job! Since buying it (I guess going on six months ago now --WOW THAT WENT FAST!!) it helped with our asthma and allergies. Within the first month I stopped waking up with a stuffy nose, and it was taking particles out of the air so I wasn't seeing as much dust. I still would love to have them in each room, but that is on the back burner. Make sure you have enough for the sq footage of your room. We have since moved to a larger place, that has more sq footage in the den, and also two open doorways leading to other rooms. As such, this unit is doing really well for how much air it has availability to; when I should honestly probably should have one more in here. It isn't too loud, and I love the uv light. Within the first month of us having it we were exposed to someone (a visitor) that wound up having pneumonia. With the fact we have a higher risk of catching lung illnesses, I was really nervous. I think a big contributor to not catching it is because we had this unit running on high with the uv light. I highly recommend this unit, and I hope it helps! =) ***********************************Update 6/26/13 We just about hit the year mark! Still working great and going strong! Make sure you wipe down (inside and out) once a month (as the book says). Still going strong, and working well! =) Buy this one, and you wont regret it! ***********************************Update 11/13/13 Unit is still working great! We added a second one earlier this year, and pleased with both! =) ***********************************Update 06/29/14 Both units are still going strong with no issues. Still helping with our asthma and allergies.

Quickly Eliminated Days Old Very Strong Indoor Skunk Odor
My dog got skunked at 3:45am, on 05/24/26, the Sunday morning of Memorial Day Weekend. I tried everything, for several days, around the clock, and nothing else, eliminated, the very, very, very, strong, indoor skunk odor, until this item arrived on Thursday, 05/28/26! Because it happened at 3:45am, and it was my first ever skunk experience, I learned the hard way, that I should not have let my dog back in my house, and especially not back on my bedroom floor. The house reeked unbearably! Especially, in my bedroom! That same day, I took my dog to get a skunk bath, I replaced his collar, harness, bed, etc, and I began trying to deskunk my house, especially my bedroom. My parents let me borrow their $300-$400 very big, tall, wide, heavy, Cuckoo, room air purifier, and I used that in my bedroom, around the clock, on high, as well as multiple fans, and my bedroom and my living room ceiling fans, (my bedroom is by my front door and enters from my living room), and I opened my front door and my (living room/kitchen/open concept) back door, and I placed bowls of vinegar around, etc, around the clock, for several days. Nothing was working! Especially, in my bedroom! The smell was literally making me sick! I couldn’t take it anymore! This all started at 3:45am on Sunday morning, then thankfully, this item arrived on Thursday. I immediately plugged this item in, and placed it a couple of feet inside the doorway of my bedroom, with my bedroom door open, blowing into my bedroom, elevated a few feet off of the floor, nothing blocking it, with its UV light on, and I left it running around the clock. The next day!, on Friday 05/30/26, I couldn’t smell the skunk odor in my bedroom, I couldn’t smell it when entering my bedroom where it was the strongest, I didn’t feel sick from the odor anymore, and my bedroom air finally smelled fresh again! It was amazing! And, such a huge relief! That was yesterday, today is now Saturday, 05/30/26, and I wanted to write this review, because this item, quickly eliminated, days old, very, very, very, strong, indoor skunk odor, it performed better than my parent’s $300-$400 very big Cuckoo room air purifier, and it actually does work! And, it has a comfortable sound, even on high, around the clock. And, it looks good. I am so glad that I purchased this item! (After reading other good reviews about it. Including, good skunk related reviews.) I would definitely recommend this item! For ANY indoor air purifying uses/needs! (Not just for very strong dog skunk indoor odor. But, if it can eliminate THAT, it can handle A LOT!) 5 Stars! Thanks for reading. Sorry this review was long, but I hope it was helpful.

Excellent air purifier
This air purifier has made a noticeable difference in the air quality of my office. It's quiet, easy to use, and does a great job reducing dust, odors, and allergens. The HEPA filtration provides peace of mind, and the unit is compact enough to fit nicely in a bedroom, office, or living area. Setup was simple, and it runs efficiently without being disruptive. Great quality and excellent value. Great for a smaller space.

Good value, works good and an added bonus (?) a brilliant blue nightlight
So far, so good. I never thought I would buy an air purifier, but my seasonal allergies now require it. This unit running in a 20x15 foot room. It is not quite as quiet as I would have liked, but it is no louder than my warm mist humidifier. This is the only air purifier in the house so it really is doing "extra" duty because if I shut the room door, the room gets too cold. Other than the first day and when I get home from work, this unit is running on the lowest of 3 settings. Here is what I like and dislike about this air purifier: Likes: Does a really good job of removing the dust and pollens that I am allergic to When using the UV, it seems to take out the molds that I am allergic to (keep in mind this is not measured by anything other than my nose) The unit is stable even on carpet with a medium carpet pad. Doesn't take up a lot of space. Easy to get at the filters (haven't tried to get to the UV light) Everything is replaceable so I should be able to keep this for a good long time. Time to "sense" a noticeable difference in the 20x15' room - about 15 min I even notice a slight difference in other rooms of the house, this is much more than I expected Dislikes: The obnoxious blue light when the UV is on. I do understand and appreciate the safety factor that the light provides, however, I would be happy with a dot indicator next to the power switch. Settings 2 and 3 are likely to be too loud for most people to sleep with. Luckily, they really are not likely to be needed during sleeping hours. Overall, I like this unit and would consider getting another one for the rest of my house if my allergies get worse. I would recommend that you run the unit on high only when you are not in the room or are not trying to sleep. Yesterday I experimented with turning the unit off when I left for work and turned it on when I came home. Using the 1 setting, the air was better in an hour (that's when I went in the room). The blue UV indicator light does make a good nightlight if you like them. I will also add that where I live, we are still getting snow on a regular basis so my windows are not open and are covered with plastic to keep down the cold drafts. Pollens are not really in the air, but dust from road sand/salt is bad. My furnace is Gerry-rigged into the air ducts so the furnace filter is nearly useless. (I am working on a fix for that). My house was built in 1892 so I cannot complain too much. I would recommend this air purifier. It provides better than expected results and is a good value for the money. I will update this review as time goes on.

Seems to work great
I ordered two of these because I suspect I am allergic to something in my house. The first unit just arrived today, so I pulled it out of the box and plugged it in. It has a simple dial to control the level of air flow and a button for the AV light, so the operation is extremely simple. I put this one in my Office and turned on the AV light since it won't bother me in the Office anyways. Almost instantly the air smelled and felt much fresher. I do notice a slight plastic smell like others have mentioned but I expect that will fade away within just a day or so. The plastic smell is common to all new electronics (most just don't blow air across it) and typically fades quickly once the item is in regular use. This smell is not very strong so it really doesn't bother me much, I can easily stand the plastic smell for the otherwise much fresher feeling air. One of the things that made me decide to try out these air purifiers is that I have been having a lot of problems with common allergy symptoms such as congestion, runny nose, sore throat, etc... After only having the purifier in the room for a few minutes I am already starting to feel better. My nose isn't running at all, and the congestion appears to be fading, and my throat while still a little sore isn't quite as bad. I just got the purifier so I'll try to update this later after I have had it a while, but first impressions are positive. As for airflow, I am just using the lowest setting right now and it seems to be moving quite a bit of air through, and it's really very quiet (about as loud as a laptop running but not doing anything). I doubt I will ever have to worry about the high setting at all. Pro: - Clean air - UV light - Easy to use - Starts working instantly - No assembly - light weight, so easy to move around Con: - Cost, though if it works as well as it seems to be, it should be well worth the cost - Bright lights (bad for bedroom use, but does have an option to turn it off). Update 3/20/2014: I ended up purchasing 3 of these to try and address some health problems (allergies). Almost immediately I noticed a positive effect in the air around me (I had it very close and pointed towards me). After several days I was still noticing improvements in the air quality and my allergy symptoms while not gone were significantly better. This ultimately prompted me to hire someone to come out and clean my AC vents and install an "AirscrubberPlus" in my AC unit. It hasn't even been 24 hours since the airscrubber has been installed and once again I am seeing improvements in air quality and symptoms. I expect at this current rate my symptoms will be all gone within the next week or so as the air continues to improve. The air purifiers were a great help in determining what was going on an in helping to alleviate symptoms at a relatively cheap price point. With just the air purifiers I went from being constantly and severely congested to having very mild congestion. My throat is continuing to heal, as is my skin. I rarely cough now while I was coughing constantly before. The rashes on my skin from the allergic reaction are nearly gone, and my skin feels much smoother and better. These purifiers are a great step and testing and diagnosing the problem, and if you only have mild allergies it will likely resolve them. Just keep in mind this helps pull junk out of the air, but doesn't prevent it from getting there in the first place. If you have severe problems like I did I would suggest picking up one or two of these Germguardian purifiers and see if that helps. If it helps but you are still having some problems you could then look into the "AirscrubberPlus" which seems to be working great for me. I have literally spent years working with Doctors trying to figure out what's been going on with me (Had no idea I was allergic to anything). I am glad to finally have an answer and one that is so easily resolved. I have spent significantly more over the past years in medical bills trying to figure out what was going on than these things cost. They are well worth the cost even if you just suspect you might be having problems. Even with my Airscrubber running I am still running all three of these. The air is great, it smells fresh and clean, and just feels lighter and better.

They do a good job of cleaning the air
I bought two of the air purifiers for my large combination living dining room area. There is a lot I like about the units. On low, they are very quiet. They are a bit louder than a box fan when turned on high. They have helped my sinuses and greatly reduced the need for dusting. They have a UV C light that can be turned on to help sanitize the air. I usually only run the UV when there is a lot of pollution or someone is sick. They look nice. The replacement HEPA filters are less expensive than many other brands. Overall I am happy with the units. They do have a two issues that bug me. They blow the air out of the front of the unit at an angle. It makes it a bit trickier to aim the air flow, but it’s a minor issue. My other concern is the carbon pre-filter is pretty thin. If you notice in my picture, the filter isn’t uniformly dense and you can easily see my fingers through it. My bedroom air purifier has a filter that is far denser and is of a uniform density. This will lower the lifespan of the actual HEPA filter. I might try to find a generic pre-filters that are a thicker and better quality.

Whoosh! Goodbye dust, smoke, and odor!
I am very pleased with this 22 inch tower from Germguardian. I have this in my basement finished room, and it has done wonders as far as the dust hanging in the air. I have LED lights built into the ceiling in my basement room "mancave." And you could see dust just hanging in the air as the bright lights from the ceiling would bounce off dust particles hanging in the air. It was gross knowing if I was in my basement all that dust was entering my lungs. Now when I turn this bad boy on, I can see a visible reduction in the amount of dust hanging in the air. And it doesnt take long either. It says it can clean and circulate the air in the room every 15 minutes or so for a room my size. I generally turn it on about 20 minutes before I know I will spend time in my basement, and I see and feel a difference. I dont usually smoke in my basement, but as an expirement I did smoke and blew some puffs into the machine to see what would happen, and to my suprise no smoke came out the front! Amazing, it literally captured smoke and filtered it out. The filter already has collected a fair amount of dust in 2 months. According to the manufacturer I am supposed to replace the filter every 6-8 months. You can vaccuum the back of the removable filter to extend its life a little bit, but generally I am going to replace it at 8 months. Here my PRO's and CON's PRO --Sleek, stylish and seems sturdy. --Very quiet, even on higher settings. I generally use the high setting when first turning it on for about 20 minutes to really power through the air in a room, and then switch the middle setting, which I like for watching TV, since its not too loud. --So far it has made a visible difference in dust in the room. I see less dust in the air and collecting on surfaces. I wouldnt say 99.7% but still, I can visibly see much improvement. --Definitely reduces odor. The room I use it in didnt smell to begin with, but its odor reduction power is mentioned in so many reviews it seemed fair to list it as a PRO in my review as well. --It can power through smoke no problem, I even tried blowing a puff of smoke into it and nothing came out the front. Pretty impressive. CON --The only con I can see, is the replacement filters are around $35 USD each. YIKES! Since I have two of these towers now, that means dropping $70 every time I want to replace the filters. I wish I had done more reasearch on how expensive the replacement filters are. If this is of a concern to you, I recommend AGAINST getting this even though it works well. Because I think $35 for a replacement is ridiculous. You can definitely find comparable brands which have washable/cleanable HEPA filters.

Very pleased with this purchase. It has saved my breathing more than once!
Pros: -helps with allergies significantly. -cheap replacement pre-filter -small, compact, easy to place in a corner of middle of a room--placement is really key with these systems -powerful enough to create a small breeze in a small apartment. Cons: -the drawback of it being nice and quiet and small is that it probably doesn't fully filtrate an entire room larger than about 200sq ft. Not sure what this is rated for, looks like it isn't rated, but for twice the price, there are larger products that could probably do 2-4 times the amount of space this one can do, and I am now considering one of those for my next apartment. Still, you could buy two of these and place them on each side of a large room or/and be able to move them to other rooms--also considering that idea. I began using it because I was staying at a home with two bigger dogs that I was apparently allergic to. It allowed me to live quite comfortable there in a room where the dogs weren't allowed. I now use the filter to combat my cat allergies, which are significantly worse than my dog allergies. I got a hypoallergenic breed because I have never been able to handle normal cats at all. I would say it has been the greatest help keeping me comfortable in my living space with my new kitten. I also live downtown, and when I moved in, I really wanted to keep my windows open because my apartment feels sort of stuffy and the outdoor air is just so nice. The problem was that opening the window led to insane amounts of dust coming in from downtown. I still have to dust the area around my windowsill like once a week, but I trust that my filter really captures a lot of the airborne dust. Because I would actually have asthma attacks after exercising and sitting in this apartment (and I rarely have asthma attacks--don't even have an inhaler) before I thought to run this filter most of the time. It's also nice that they have a pre-filter before what I take to be the HEPA, so the dust builds up on a filter that is cheap to replace or even to wash (I haven't tried washing but others have said they do). When I first looked up filters, I was pissed because I saw the expensive HEPA filter, but then I realized there were two parts. I just barely changed out the thin cheap filter, and I feel like it drastically improved the performance of the machine (I went a whole year when it recommends 6-8 mo--there was 1-2 cm of dust build up). The indicator light didn't ever change, but think it might be monitoring the actual expensive HEPA filter piece. One velcro piece did tear off the HEPA filter, but it didn't really affect anything, and there were other velcro pieces. It's also a part that will be replaced eventually, but luckily not as often.
