No they are preset! I have tested mine and they detect levels way below normal

This unit does no require a bump test. Once you turn it on, it self calibrates andyou are good to go for 2 years. Make sure to store it I a clean environment.

will this pin point, or sniff out the source of a leak? or just the overall area condition?

This device is used for personal protection it will only detect the H2S in the area it will not pin point it.

Can this detect the car emission mixed air coming through my bedroom window?

Definitely not. Combustion products from car engines shouldn't really have any hydrogen sulfide (even if it was in the fuel, it'd burn up!) You might want a CO detector, although the unpleasant smell of car exhaust has nothing to do with it.
