Will this boiler fit properly in a 2.5 quart saucepan?

The boiler sides are "tiered" (2, 3, 4 & 5 cup levels) and will accommodate pans with openings ranging from 6" to 8-1/2" in diameter.

The answer could be, "maybe." This is an expensive double boiler. I didn't like it because it was shaped too much like an upside ice cream cone. Pointy. I couldn't quite tell the 'shape,' from the description. If you're handling something hot, remember, it doesn't have a handle.

What's the capacity of the insert?

The full capacity is 8 cups. The inner ridges are marked for 2, 3, 4 & 5 cups.

The descriptions says dimensions are 5.8 x 10.3 x 4.3 in - which is the width at the top, which is height (and what's the tbird measurement?)?

Length x Width x height. That would be 10.3 for the width at the top
