This is a professional tool, made in JAPAN, and it is far, FAR superior to the cheap, disposable junk now sold in big-box hardware stores. I've been through two Gardner-Bender units in thirteen months--the first one was D.O.A. when I got it home from the store; the second blew out shortly after the one-year guarantee had expired.I bought my first multimeter in 1971 when I was a mechanic at a motorcycle dealership in New York City. It was a Kawasaki-branded 'shop tool' and it lasted over FIFTY YEARS before 'pilot error' caused a resistor to fry. Unfortunately, the markings on the resistor burned beyond recognition, so there was no way to know what value to use when replacing it since I had lost the schematic that came with it years ago....This Hioki meter is the first one I've seen since my old one died that looks, acts, and 'feels' like a REAL tool, instead of a disposable plastic toy.
