The complete, two-volume fan-favorite Scrooge McDuck life story as it’s never been told before ― in chronological order ― with “in-between” untold tales. In Vol. 1 of the internationally acclaimed comics collection The Complete Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, Don Rosa tells the tale of how Uncle Scrooge earned his fortune. In Volume 2, he still has more secrets to tell from Scrooge’s legendary life ― including a rollicking Yukon adventure involving Glittering Goldie (that might just break your heart!). Fantagraphics proudly presents, in a handsome hardcover, the fan-favorite Scrooge McDuck life story as it’s never been told before ― in chronological order ― with “in-between” untold tales. Full-color illustrations throughout. Review: Excellent Stories and Artwork - Though I like Donald Duck, I was never a big fan of Scrooge McDuck (other than in Disney's Christmas Carol). After reading reading these stories, I may have to watch some Duck Tales episodes. I was alerted to this collection when I watched an episode of Near Mint Condition (a youtube channel devoted to collected editions and graphic novels). They had high praise for this set so I thought I would give it a try. The set is two hardcover books in a slipcase. The first book collects issues 1-12 of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Each issue/story takes place in a different time period of Scrooge's life (starting when he was a kid shining shoes all the way thru when he got rich and how he handled it. The stories in-between show how he learned life lessons and how he was able to get his wealth. The second book are stories that take place in between the various 12 issues - filling in some gaps of time. According to the author (in the first book introduction), he did not want the original 12 stories broken up and is why he did not mix these newer stories in with the original 12 and instead went for a separate book. The stories are basically an origin story of Scrooge McDuck. How he acquires his wealth how he meets various characters that end up being his nemeses in more current stories (Beagle Boys being an example). The beginning of the books contain a warning message similar to Leonard Malton introductions in the various Treasury DVDs warning about stereo-types, but other than the paragraph it isn't mentioned. Overall, fantastic collection that can be enjoyed by anyone. If you're concerned it is Scrooge McDuck, ignore what you know and enjoy the books. The stories are all interesting. Include some action, but the expected humor of Disney characters. The artwork is excellent. The style matched many Disney animated shorts from the 40s and 50s, but there also feels like there is a little Jeff Smith's Bone in there for both art and story. Some pages you do need to look close at to not miss a little humor thrown in. Though half the ducks appearing in the stories look a lot like Donald, you can tell them apart. Review: Good product. - All good as expected

Eisner award winner. Buy it before its out of print ?
Bought in July 2023 for $45 new from amazon.com. Printed in China, July 2022. Love the stories, the drawings (pretty close to Barks), the humor, the print quality of the product and the price. Actually when i bought it, it was $65, then two days later Amazon reduced the price, i called up Amazon and they reduced the price so i did not have to send it back and buy it again at the current, lower price. Nice! I scored more Scrooge points. Will not repeat details i already read in other reviews here. Admittedly this was a bit of a panic buy when i had to read on wikipedia and the authors own facebook page that Disney did ban at least one of the stories in February 2023, so reprints would likely not be complete anymore - unless Disney would change its policy again. A lot of the panels are very nicely detailed, so they are certainly worth to be viewed in as large print as possible. You can get a larger size deluxe edition (www.amazon.com/dp/1683964659). I feared it would be unwieldy/heavy for my reading though, and you wouldn't be a good Scrooge move buying the expensive version! Did i say i love the humor ? Oh wait. It's Amazon Prime day. I need to go bargain hunting. Be a Scrooge!

Still the original (uncensored) version as of July 2023
This box set is an excellent collection of the original "Life and Times" stories by Don Rosa in the first volume, as well as "untold" related stories in the second volume. See the other reviews to appreciate what you are getting here. Note that these stories are also available in various volumes of The Don Rosa Library, and with extra behind-the-scenes content not included in this box set. But if you are not collecting those other volumes, this is a great way to have this saga of Scrooge all together. I am writing here to mention that the version sold by Amazon.com as of July 2023 is still the original (uncensored) printing. Due to some content deemed objectionable by The Walt Disney Company, two stories in particular may be modified or removed from future printings: "The Empire-Builder of Calisota" and "The Dream of a Lifetime". Both of these stories feature a minor character named "Bombie". For more information on this, search for "Don Rosa ban" on Google. Note that this is *not* a blanket ban of Don Rosa stories, it is just easiest to search with those keywords. Also, this "ban" only covers very specific material, and has not been enacted yet as far as I know. Still, if you are interested is possibly the most authentic printings of these stories that will ever be made, pick up this box set soon. If you see a future new release (likely with a new ISBN) from Fantagraphics, it will likely be edited to adjust or remove references to Bombie, or in the worst case with the entire stories removed... but hopefully not!

A real page turner.
Yes finally the complete don Rosa series to the life and times of Scrooge mcduck in one box set. It’d you love the Disney ducks in action, treasure hunts, mystery and wonder. Then look no further. This book contains how Scrooge lived and fought for his life and riches in order to be the best of the best an how he survived for so many years to get where he is today. This might not be the complete don rose collection but it is his story for how the riches dick lived the best and worst times of his life. Also in this set you get 2 books with a box cover to protect these treasures and to look great on a shelf.

What a great boxset
Don Rosa is the most renowned historian of the McDuck family. After carefully studying the work of Carl Barks he crafted the entire McDuck story and included fascinating details of their history. Read these stories in a small segments and I am so happy I get to see the complete story in such a wonderful book. The size is quite large and you can enjoy the masterful drawing ready easily the intriguing dialogs. I am so happy this is out. I would also recommend the series with the complete work from Don Rosa.

Fantastic Stories, Top-Notch Print Quality And Size
I used to have a softcover copy of this years ago, when I was younger, and I read it over and over until that book fell apart. Wanting to replace that and share it with my nephews and nieces, I ordered this hardcover collection, and once it got here I was very impressed. There's a heft and solidity to these books that feels great, the color and size of the printing is all fantastic, and the slipcase that holds them both looks great on a shelf too. These are going to stand the test of time and dozens of re-reads, and I'm very happy about that. Would recommend it to fans of any age!

How is Rosa not better known in the U.S.?
Frankly, it kind of boggles my mind, having at last obtained (and read - and read, and read, and read) this collection that Don Rosa does not have greater appreciation in his own country. He and his Scrooge stories are a lot better known in Europe (I mean, there's a guy in Finland, lead of a group called Nightwish, who made this set of stories the basis for his first solo music album). He himself has said his work is not particularly well-known even to his next-door neighbors. Which is a crying shame, in my opinion. Based on this collection alone, the man is an absolute master. Given that I have suddenly found myself on something of a Duck-binge the past few weeks (I'm more or less stuck at home, gotta pass the time SOMEHOW), I just had to have this. And if you grew up on DuckTales like I did, I definitely suggest grabbing a set for yourself.

I just loved this so much!
Let me start by saying that the last time I read a Disney comic book was probably around 25 years ago. I used to read them when I was a kid and wasn’t sure I would like them now that I’m almost 40…well, I had no idea how deeply I would be impacted by this masterpiece by Don Rosa. I absolutely loved every minute of it. I’m so glad I listened to my friend who recommended this. Scrooge’s story resonates with me so much and it’s crazy to think that what may be perceived as a children’s book by some turned out to be one of the most inspiring and compelling literature I ever read. If you’re into classic action-adventure Indiana Jones style stuff which is very entertaining but also has a deeper meaning you will definitely fall in love with this, like I did. Also, the quality of the books themselves is brilliant, they’re large enough and with vibrant colors. Do yourself a favor and give this a go, it was the best 40 quid I have spent in the last few years.
