A to Z of Crochet: The Ultimate Guide for the Beginner to Advanced Crocheter Review: helpful crochet resource - great resource Review: A good reference work for people who prefer books to videos. - I just got this book so I haven't tried anything in it, but I have flipped through and looked at what's in it. It has a lot of pictures with the instructions. It is mostly stitches, no patterns. But it also has a lot of problems solving such as increasing and decreasing edges, working left handed, button holes (vertical and horizontal), weaving ends, joining yarns, checkerboards, and shaping. I have always been more of a freestyle crocheter, so I love this reference work. Patterns tell you what to do but not why you are doing it. This sort of instruction tells you how to get a specific effect and lets you decide when and where you want to use it. Now I can put Bobbles where I want them! Even though there there is a whole section on circles it doesn't have the Magic Circle! Which is how to close the hole in the middle of a round. They should really add that. And there was a listing for "History" in the index as being on pages 4-5. Pages 4-5 are the table of contents and I couldn't find anything about crochet history. Not a huge loss but they should correct the index.

Plenty of photos
Plenty of photos to help anyone else, and it makes it so much easier to understand how to do some of the stitches and patterns.

Good content but need a page magnifier for text
This reference was purchased at the same time as The Crochet Answer Book, 2nd edition, to refresh my skills in a hobby not practiced in decades. Both books have worth to refine forgotten stitches, shorthand & techniques. The illustrations in this text are colored photographs, which are valuable for showing what a finished sample will look like, & encourages me to try other styles. The book's size is favored (over the other text) for staying open to the section I need; the softcover's folded back edges are handy to mark & flip easily to a frequently used page. Scattered among the photos & text are decorative motifs (flowers, vintage covers, yarn, tools, etc.) which are fancy fillers, but I would have preferred a larger & bolder font; many of the graphics (tables, tips, & especially the index) are small, italicized, or too faint to easily read. Overall, for the price & content, even with these criticisms, this is a reference I will use for many seasons. But I am glad to have supplemented its content with the second book.

Not what I wanted
It's not what I expected. The pictures are taken to far away from the work I can't tell what's being done. There aren't really any patterns in it. It doesn't have any really advanced info in it. Most of it is common knowledge to me. It would be okay for someone who wants to learn new stitches just starting out the only info I can really use is the edging patterns in the back of the book, the few there are anyway.

This book is amazing, very informative and easy to use. As a self taught crocheter this is full of diagrams and a legend that assists with pattern reading. Very handy to have.
