It took approximately 1.5 hours to put together with assistance from my mother. Everything was provided and it was relatively easy to put together. On a scale of 1-10, I would say it was a 3, provided you have assistance from another person.

What does the front look like? Does it look like a "house" to some degree, or should I plan to keep the whole thing up against a wall?

It's meant to be against a wall, and even includes a kit to fasten it to the wall. There is no front on it - the rooms and staircase are all open so the child can easily play with their dolls inside it.
