Kudos to Allison Hobbs for her visual writing style which made me literally picture the actual scenes in my mind as I was easily reading each chapter. A range of feelings were brought out in me too and I found myself absorbed with the story of the young, beautiful, charming and manipulating Silk Moreaux - raised by a voodoo queen in the backwoods of Louisiana. Caution - be ready for something different when you read this book! It's spicy and good with lots of "I didn't see that coming" parts. Thanks Allison Hobbs for writing this one out the box! Review: This is a good book and it would make a great Horror movie - Well, what can I say about Miss Hobbs? She has managed to create a character that makes Misty look like Mary Poppins. She's gorgeous, charming, and kills with no concience whatsoever. There were parts that were hard to read; I'd think to myself, "She's not gonna do that is she? Oh wow she just did that." To me, I feel like all men should read this book. Why? Because I felt like while Silk's character was to the extreme, it was an example for men to first, choose a woman wisely and not base it on his flesh alone (her looks or sexual prowess) and second, to date for their kids, not for themselves. So many men choose a woman in real life who are wonderful to him, but as soon as he is out of sight, she is h*** on wheels to his kids. One thing that I had to give Miss Hobbs credit for was, if I'm not mistaken, it was the first book of hers that was a period piece. I read that Chester was her hometown, and she really recreated the times and her neighborhood to the fullest. I felt like she made her hometown of Chester, PA a character, much like how David Simon made Baltimore a character on his show. I have to say the only thing that disappointed me about the book was the ending, but not in the way that you think. I don't want to give the ending away, you'll just have to see for yourself.

Don't Miss Silk!
Wow! Allison, this work has surpassed my wildest expectations! When I read the first chapters that you so graciously shared with us months ago, I was super excited and anxiously waited to devour your newest offering. People, please don't sleep on this book! It was familiar to me because it took place during my growing years and in the very same region where I came of age. Those pages evoked so many fond memories! One memory that I especially loved was that little small street behind the Uptown Theatre! Oh my word! I was hanging out there too back in da day! On the other hand, I would have never, ever, in all of my 60+ years, could have remotely imagined this story! SILK is the epitome of evil! I would be afraid for MISTY if those two would have crossed paths. But there is an underlying story that could almost be missed if you are not sensitive to the hand-me downs of one generation to the next in our world. If you know better, then you will do better... If you don't, then you do what you know. My heart aches for Silk on a deeper level. Take a hint, if you are an AH groupie, you are in for the the ride of your life! ~v~

Not for everyone...
I've read a few of Allison Hobbs stories, A Bona Fide Gold Digger (twice) and Pandora's Box. Her writing is not for prudish people, the type you may even read at a book club, or the book that you pass around to friends. I think that she writes in ways that some other authors would be scared to or ashamed to. She has a bizarre style, but I like it. I won't spoil anything but it is a book that will cause you to dislike the main character. I wish that it had a little stronger ending but I am sure that A. Hobbs thought of at least a hundred different endings and could of course only choose one. It's a pretty good read, just not for everyone. I liked it.

Secrets of Silk
Silk is now one of my favorite characters. It's like a love/hate thing when it comes to her. I will say that IMO this is Allison Hobbs craziest character yet and I loved evey page if it. Silk is on the run and hungry for a good come up. And believe me she came up. She got settled in Pensylvannia where she got what she wanted by lying and her looks. Back home before she left big momma warned her about her ways and that one day it was all going to catch up to her. Before She headed to Pennsylvania she tried to steal from big momma and that caused her a permanent hex that would soon bring her back. Find out how silk showed up, and showed out in Pennsylvania. She had all the men drooling and ready to trick up on her. Go get your copy to see. How Silk came through and started ruling the city.

Can't help but love it!
I'm never disappointed when I read an Allison Hobbs book and this time was no different. Ms. Hobbs has managed to weave and incredible tale and developed a female character that you will love to hate. From the very beginning you're pulled into Silk's world and Ms. Allison never lets you go. She effectively makes you hate Silk with her lies, deceit and attitude and almost (almost) make you feel sorry for her by the end. "The Secrets of Silk" is one that is not to be missed!

Not a Good Read!!!
This was not a Good book! I've read other books by this author and they were pretty decent but this was not a Good read. After reading a couple of chapters I put the book down. I don't condone the sexual abuse and killing of children in real life nor books😒. This was definitely a Thumbs Down 👎🏾

Ms. Hobbs never disappoints! Silk is a character ...
Ms. Hobbs never disappoints! Silk is a character who reels you in on her side at first, but then the real her emerges! This woman is a mixture of evil and beauty and maybe just a tad of crazy. The book took over my day as I HAD to see what happened next. The ending was riveting and I suggest you read this book!
