Aquasana Shower Filter for Hair & Skin | Reduces 90% of Chlorine | Dermatologist-Recommended | High pressure | AQ-4105

We live in southern California and the water here is more solid than liquid with all the lime and calcium. A show head can get clogged in a week or so. My wife wanted this because her hair is drying out and breaking and her scalp is flaking and she was freaking out forcing me to get spring water delivered so she could rinse her hair. We purchased this one and also purchased the Sprite high output as well, The Sprite was about 1/3 cheaper but it required everything to be taken apart. The Sprite also lasts about twice as long, BUT since the Sprite is an Inline filter it mush be taken off at least one side on the shower head or pipe and then the filter be taken apart and that can be a pain. Easy to scratch and took me soaking it in CLR to get it off. This Aquasana is about twice the cost of the Sprite High Output but. No disassembly, it is a simple change, no fighting the filter housing to get it off and it works marvelous. The water is much cleaner, a little softer even and my wife's hour is no longer breaking and he scalp has stopped flaking. The shower head is crap but the filter is a better choice as it is much much more user friendly. We have had it for a month with no reduction in its performance.

I found worth to have it in Carmel where you have hard water.

I read the reviews before buying and my experience is pretty consistent with many of the comments made. The shower wand. I have always installed shower wands in every residence our family has lived in, and really am glad I paid the extra $14 and bought this filter with the wand! Like most, this wand is continuously adjustable from spray to three pulsing/massaging streams. I cannot comment on the massage setting as no one in my family has ever preferred that setting. However, the spray is exceptional! Most shower wands choke back the water flow as you adjust them to the spray setting, but this one maintains a good high volume of water flow! The pocket the wand nests in has a contour to match the (non-circular) shape of the wand. This keeps the wand locked in place. In the past, I've been aggravated when the wand would rotate left or right in the bracket if the hose got bumped. Assembly. This is why this product gets 4 stars instead of 5. As mentioned in other reviews, the hose ends were troublesome. First I had a leak at the "filter end" of the hose. Even though I used a strap wrench to tighten this connection well past finger tight, it continued to leak, so I installed the old hose from the wand I was removing. Finger tightening the old hose gave a good seal at this joint, but the old hose fitting did not seat properly on the wand end. Here, I found adding an extra washer (supplied for use with the new hose) caused the hose end to be properly captured without leaking. For what should be a pretty simple task, this was a bit of a pain, and what should have been a 5 minute job went to 25-30 minutes (to dig out & put away the strap wrench and test for leaks until the leaks were gone)! Everything else went together as it should have. Filter. I will provide more observations after we've used it a bit. Even though I read the caution beforehand, I did not expect the amount of black charcoal debris that came out of the filter. I guess I was expecting to to be like the faucet-mount filters I have used in the past. It was truly a mess because the first time water passed through the filter, it came out sputtering (because of air pockets) and was not confined to the stream I was anticipating. It took about 5 cycles of water on-off before the water was clear. Even though I have not showered with it yet, I noticed that the water smelt "clean & healthy". I did not realize that I had become conditioned to the odor of chlorine (and whatever else) coming from the shower, but I did notice its absence! Update - Comments after using. Because the cartridge is in the way, the spray cannot be pointed downward (see picture where hose is against canister). This was a problem for my daughter as it put the stream a face level. To complete her shower, she used the "three pulsing streams setting" which falls quicker than the spray. After she was done, I repositioned the canister about 20° clockwise and the wand 20° the other way (as viewed from standing in the shower). This gives the wand assembly clearance to be pointed downward. My family was experiencing skin rashes. No easy way to be certain why, but so far, none of us has had recurrence of rashes while using this filter. One additional comment - When adjusting temperature, count off about 10 seconds before readjusting. The reservoir at the filter causes a delay.

I was happy to have an effective water filter with a hand-held shower--even though the spray settings were not as good as I'd hoped. Definitely not good for the massage setting. No pulse setting. The vinyl hose is stiff, in the way, and stinks. Still, I would have given a pretty good review, but in a matter of days after I could return this product to Amazon, the cartridge housing split and a thin spray blasted the wall of the shower. Then a week or so later the hand-held housing split, too! I've decided that even though I can't return it, people should know about this. I'm still using it until I can get a replacement. ======================== I am updating this to a more positive review, because I phoned Aquasana and told them the situation. Without hesitation they said they would send a new one right out! I hadn't filled out the warranty card or anything (my bad). The customer service was terrific. I got this shower filter in the first place because it had an A+ rating in side-by-side comparisons. The upflow design filter includes both KDF and coconut shell carbon to reduce chlorine as well as other synthetic chemicals, contaminants, and odors. Probably the best combination. FYI: KDF is copper-zinc alloy media used because of its high effectiveness for chlorine removal. Activated carbon media reduces organics like THM's (trihalomethanes), a byproduct of the chlorine water disinfection process that can form breathable contaminants such as chloroform. ======================== I am updating this review yet again because Aquasana only sent the hand held shower part, not the filter housing, which was the real problem. Said I had to sign up for the 6-month automatic filter replacement delivery for about $45 per. I could then cancel any time. Not a bad deal, instead of buying a filter separately (many more $s), but I'm not about to throw good money after bad until I know it it won't split halfway to the supposed 6-month typical-use time-frame. The split is now 3/4" tall with 3 strong sprays taking much of the water pressure away. I'm so stubborn I'm not going to change it out until it stops filtering chlorine. Checked it with a tester and it is still filtering at about 6 months. I've bought a different type to change out when this bombs out or stops filtering properly. By-the-way, the hose is still smells after 6 months. [I've bought a Sprite shower filter with the filter in the wand. Filter is Chlorgon Redox filtration media (like KDF); shows black when ready to change; can be reversed to last longer. Stainless steel flexible hose. Wide shower head with multiple settings. With 2 filters (6+ months). $40 total! Replacement filters really inexpensive compared to Aquasana. Available at Amazon. Hope this solves all the problems I've had with this filter.]

I've bought two filter showerheads one with a different company and this one. I bought this product to see if it can minimize or even cure my dry scalp problem I have had for over 20 years. I've used so many different shampoos to cure this symptom, but it never really worked out well for me. Due to this problem, I had to consciously remind myself not to scratch my head ,which would left my head and shoulder with a snow storm. My symptom is really bad that I can see white dandruff already settled in after I took a shower. After thorough research, I bought this product even though I do not really like the design that mainly made with plastic. Installation: Installation is looked to be easy but actually it is not. I saw some reviews complaining about leaking of water. That also happened to me, but I was able to fix that problem by using teflon tape, which I need to buy separately. Other product I bought provide teflon tape with the main product. Smell: I saw some reviews also complaining about the smell of this product. I do not really know whether they made an improvement to the product, mine does not have this particular problem. I bought this product on November 2013. So it is a fair bet that purchase after that date expected to be ok. Performance: As I mention already, I bought two including this one. This one is expensive and not as a popular choice compare to one that now listed as a "best seller" in amazon.com. But performance is what it makes the difference. I can tell substantial reduction of dandruff after few showers. Although it does not eliminate the problem, I now more comfortable walking around the street and spend less time on looking at my head and shoulder. To be fair, other product also improves my scalp problem but not as much as this one. The size and weight of filters also tell why there is a difference between two competing brands. This one weight at least 4 times and 4 times bigger than competing brand. In the arena of battery and filter, I think bigger the better, as it has bigger capacity. In sum, if your whatever symptom is acceptable, I would not recommend this product because of price and price of filter you will need to spend on replacing filter. But if you desperately need of maximum performance, this is a product you should buy. I gave five stars because I bought this product mainly for performance, nothing else. One more thing: There is a noticeable reduction in temperature, which is understandable due to it's size of the filter and water going through a long hose.

Update: I order this showerhead filter faithfully and will continue to buy them. My son has eczema and while I did not notice why at the time, would have mild to severe flare up all the time. Some would result in emergency NICU 4-5 night stays because of super infections throughout the body. When I moved we put this filter up and surprisingly my son's skin was perfect. There were no more flares until we gave him a bath in the kitchen sink and noticed his skin flare up again. I immediately knew that something in the water was causing him these horrible and uncomfortable skin flare ups. We still don't know what it is but we definitely love this filter! My son is about to be 6 and since we started using this filter he has had baby smooth skin! In addition we don't use any horrible "baby products". A little bit of coconut oil goes a long way! 😉 I ordered this for my new home, which i will be moving to in a month. I have not opened it yet but I would love to say I had no problems with shipping or order! Great fast shipping! Thanks! ***UPDATE: My youngest son suffers from eczema which has landed him in ICU 3 times for a week at a time with super infections. Creams, treatments, this that and the other would not work on my baby. I can honestly say that my child has had no more flare ups and his eczema has almost completely subsided. I keep his skin moisturized and he loves drinking water. My son had to take a shower every other day with some days every other 2 days and the showers were 3-4 minutes long. Now I am so happy to see my baby play in the shower for as long as he wants everyday and nothing happens to his skin. I do not know if it is some chemical in the water (which I highly don't doubt) which causes his eczema to go bonkers but with this shower head we've had no more skin problems and a happy baby. I'm not saying this will apply to every person who suffers from eczema but it's worth a try. His doctor looks at me crazy when I claim this has fixed the problem... we've all benefited from this product in some way... hope this review helps.

My sensitivity with chlorine was eliminated

I originally got the Aquasana with the white plastic braided hose and shower head when I was living in an apartment and recovering from some pretty intense surgery. The water was provided by the local municipality and was heavily treated with chlorine based on the intense smell. There was enough chlorine in the water that it actually irritated the surgical location whenever I showered. Due to the nauseating smell and irritation of the chlorinated water, I was desperate for a solution. I looked at several different shower head and filter options online and finally chose this unit because the reviews were pretty good and it had a wand. It was very easy to install, even by me who at the time who could barely move. It was actually more difficult to remove the existing shower head to install the Aquasana. So I couldn't ever imagine ever paying the $77, or whatever the going rate is now, to have someone install it for you. I am a small female and had just had major surgery and was able to install myself. So please don't bother paying someone else to install as that is just a waste of money. Get a friend to install if you have too and take them out to dinner. That would be a much better use of the money. The Aquasana definitely addressed the issues for me buying to begin with and at the time I was very thankful how well it worked out for me. In hindsight though, I would recommend going with the chrome shower head version as it's not that much more, maybe $8-$10, and I strongly suspect the flex hose is much easier to use than the stiff, braided plastic hose that came with the version that I purchased. The plastic version has never fully worked itself free of hose bends and kinks, due to packaging I suspect, and it has been almost 11 months since I purchased. I was a bit weak, post surgery, and it was really annoying to have to force to twist the plastic hose whenever I showered. I also suspect that the chrome version will outlast the plastic version. Why Only 3 Stars? While I like the product overall and it did what I needed it for, I find the cost of a replacement filter hard to justify. At the time, because of my situation, I was pretty desperate and needed something quickly. However, since I purchased my unit, the filter is now almost the price that I originally paid for the entire unit. I am not sure why these replacement filters are so expensive, that is something that the seller would need to address, but I am definitely looking for a different long-term alternative. The last time I checked, a replacement filter was over $56. Given that the filter needs to be changed approximately every six months or so, that adds up pretty fast. I would think that if the filter was a bit cheaper, there would be a greater percentage of repeat customers. I am hoping that the filter prices go down to a more reasonable cost.

I love this Shower! It has been doing amazing things for my sensitive skin. It removed pretty much completely the chlorine smell of the water (and I assume by that the chlorine was removed) and I can feel the difference in my skin and in my hair. My skin is not breaking out and dehydrated anymore and I feel my hair much more healthy now. The handheld is a bonus, but it could be more stable in the shower (when you touch the hose the shower head moves usually). Thinking about it now maybe I should have chosen the chrome one. Installation was super simple but I had to use a lot of thread seal (waterproof) tape to stop the leakages but that was enough to stop it.

It was easy to install, however when you install it the first time if it leaks its probably coz you not using the 3 black rubber small round washers that came with it or youc can use your old rubber washer with ur current shower then there's no leak. As per the product I am sure it works the water smells less and feels better and definitely doing something rather than not having a filter at all.
