Milescraft 1405 CrownCut - Crown Molding Miter Saw Jig Tool - 3 Angle Settings for Common Molding Angles 38°, 45° and 52° - For use with 2" to 5-1/2" (51mm - 140mm) Crown Molding

I purchased the Milescraft 1405 Crown45 Crown Molding Jig for my Dewalt sliding compound miter saw and started working with it two days after it arrived. Prior to attempting to use the jig I watched the video on the internet numerous times so I became familiar with the cuts I was going to make. Prior to starting the job I measured the room so I had all the dimensions prior to my first cut. The jig was easy to set up and work with right out of the box. The only word of caution is that when the jig is on the right side of your saw blade, pay careful attention to where the jig is in relation to the blade. My first cut I actually took a small slice out of the jig on the right side because it is difficult to judge the position of the jig and the molding with the saw blade. Other than that minor mishap, the jig did a fantastic job of cutting the proper angles. The jig was very easy to use and the finished product came out magnificent. Any caulking that was necessary was due to uneven walls or ceiling. The cuts made with the jig fit together perfectly.

So far so good. I’ve only completed one cut so far. This product is 10,000x better than Kreg’s mitre jig tool. No one wants to do the upside down method, it takes some time to reach yourself this old method. This is a project that does take time and effort to learn the mitre cuts when you do not do it everyday. As Peppa Pig’s Father would say “I am a bit of an expert” and will find a way to win for this project. The only thing I would have liked is the “grey clamp” on the box. Holding the jig, crown and pulling down the saw for precision cuts is not the easiest thing to do. Good luck

Was my first time installing crown molding. Very pleased with the results. Have to be careful that the trim is positioned on the saw correctly. Sometimes “jumps” when starting the saw. Would be nice if it could somehow be clamped into place or maybe some rubber feet to hold in place. Used a helper part way through to assist in holding while cutting. As a DIY guy, can’t imagine doing it any other way. Almost all successful first time cuts. Great tool. Wife is happy with the results!

Great tool if you’re looking to try do your own crown molding. Easy instructions. With video link. Only thing I can say that not positive is fingers and hands are uncomfortable close to saw blades. My first experience doing crown molding, finished product is amazing! Takes all the complexity figuring out set up for perfect alignment in corners. Well worth the investment. And wasted crown molding was minimal. So it pays for itself quickly.

The product works but at times there’s a struggle to get a good cut on pieces longer than 4 or 5 feet. There’s a piece that selects the angle that should lock in place. It was always falling out almost every time I move it after a cut. I would recommend that they look at a redesign to fix this. My workaround was to wrap tape all the around to secure it. The other issue I had was that it’s not sturdy enough. To hold a piece in place while cutting requires some pretty good down force and the plastic design kept flexing. I would love to see them design in a downward clamp to hold the piece while cutting. Any slippage in any direction led to an improper cut. 1 degree off could mean an 1/8 in gap. Overall it allows you to just cut at one angle and makes it easy to go between inside and outside cuts. The product is good enough for small projects like a room or two. But anything more than that, I’d recommend taking the time to build a larger jig the mimics this products functionality.

Background: I use a 12" compound mitre saw, in part to enable doing crown molding cuts. Before buying this jig I was blissfully unaware that the "spring" angle on molding can vary, from 39 to 45 to 52(?).. I figured it was always 45 degrees. The I ran into a project where it wasn't. That led to trying to get my saw set at 39.x degrees compounded w. something else, all while setting up the cuts upside down and backwards. This jig eliminates that set up calculation entirely. All I needed to do was measure for length and thanks to the jig, make a non-compound 45degree cut - right side up and facing forward, same orientation as the finish inhalation. Can't overstate the time savings, not to mention the material saved by not making "bad" cuts. I looked at the big brand "blue" jig that looks similar, but realized that it requires making the cuts upside down and reversed. So this was clearly preferable to me. The results did not disappoint - they are perfect and completed quickly.

This excellent product allows for the ability to cut crown molding perfectly every time. We just finished a project on my son’s new 3000 sq ft home, and it worked flawlessly. My wife, the trim carpenter of the household, had installed moldings for years using the flat cut method. She installed layer upon layer of moldings, often creating an appearance of 14-16” crown in our 130 year old money pit. The home had 12 foot ceilings and it looked incredible. The problem was that was 15-20 years ago and we have gotten old. This product made the entire process extremely easy. My son, with no experience at all, caught on very quickly . We used an adjustable clamp to hold the wood to the guide. That really helped since we were cutting 12 foot moldings.

Quality construction and I found it helpful when working with crown molding. This device definitely helps make more accurate cuts and and provides support while cutting. It's a little bulky so if you have a small mitre saw it may not work for all cuts if using a wide crown. Comes with instructions and videos online to help you if you need it.

Super handy if your not a pro with the saw. I found it completely improved my mitres, but you need a pretty decent size deck on the saw for it to not be awkward to hold in place. Still worked great!!
