I have now tried several different Matcha's. THIS IS THE BEST OF THE BEST I am very sensitive to substances that go into my body. Do your research. I did. I drink Green Tea for the health benefits. I am 61 years old now. My metabolism has slowed. My brain never tolerated caffeine very well. And, I do not want or like to be physically addicted to any drug (caffeine). When I was in Iraq, I drank caffeinate concentrated coffee (1 can of triple shot) per day. When I missed a day or two, my body went into a sluggish withdrawal with headache/stuffy brain. That was awful. I read about this Do Matcha Green Tea and how the other substances (Catechins, etc.) in it were so healthful and that the caffeine was low. I tried it and found there were no withdrawal symptoms after drinking one cup every day for a week. To my surprise it was just as uplifting as the Triple Shot had been, but with less than a third of the caffeine. It also had a very calming effect and produced a mental clarity I enjoyed in my 20's and 30's. The other Matcha's I tried because of cheaper price failed to produce the mental clarity. Mental clarity is what I missed the most in getting older. Only Do Matcha first harvest (Ceremonial Grade) has produced this. Read up on this so that I do not have to write so much to impart knowledge to those who do not know. I do not drink this for the taste. I drink it for the health benefits. The others DO NOT measure up to Do Matcha!!! You get what you pay for. Many extoll the different mixes they use Green Tea for. That is not me. I drink it straight with cool water. I don't want to lose any of the nutrition because of heated water. I use a battery operated frother to mix it. I like the veggie taste (like raw spinach). It is a quick drink that uplifts, enlivens, and clarifies. If you need to enhance your life. Pay for this. Yes, it is expensive... and worth the extra cost if you value your health. My body has become more supple. No more morning stiffness. No more morning grogginess. No more sore feet when getting out of bed. I have been using Do Matcha (and tried others) for 7 months now. I can quit without any signs of withdrawal. But, the age factors set in again. So, one cup a day of Do Matcha seems to be quite therapeutic for me.

I had tried some matcha prior from Red Leaf Tea (admittedly their mid grade matcha of which they have 3) and I did enjoy it but found that the experience was not worth the premium I paid. I again am overwhelmed at the cost. I'm sure I could buy quality illegal substances on the street for cheaper. If like the more vehement proponents claim it is the cure for depression, cancer, heart disease, human suffering and Donald Trump it might be worth it, but scientifically it seems to be only the more basic claims have been substantiated. That's enough for me to work my way into the matcha world, but there is that retirement I've been eyeing. That having been said I will say that the increase in price is certainly in line with the increase I have tasted in quality. I am very happy with this DoMatcha matcha. The color is almost neon green, it bubbles up quite a bit and has a mellow but full sweet/grassy vegetal taste. It's fairly strong but mild and smooth if that makes sense. All in all very impressive but since I plan to drink about 5 cups of green tea a day that would run me hundreds per month, so I'll have to find a sweet spot between quality and price and I'm not sure this is it. If you want a treat I would get this or the highest quality ipoddo (which seems to come much higher recommended), but for a daily drinking tea I might recommend Red Leaf's caramel matcha lowest grade. EDIT: I've since had a chance to try Ippodo's Matchas and I have to say they are the best matcha I have ever tried and at this point I've tried quite a few. So if you want an affordable daily drinking tea get Red Leaf's caramel matcha lowest grade. A mid range get this DoMatcha and high end Ippodo. There are big differences in quality but they are all enjoyable. I think you owe it to yourself to at least try each one once.

I will compare my experiences with Organic First Harvest DoMatcha, Organic Second Harvest DoMatcha, and "Organic" Bigelow bagged green tea. I have not tried the non-organic DoMatcha teas, nor do I plan to. I'm currently on my 5th tin of Second Harvest DoMatcha and recently finished my second tin of First Harvest DoMatcha. They are both incredibly delicious, creamy, and richly flavored, but there are differences. First Harvest DoMatcha is slightly creamier, slightly less bitter, contains more delicate and diverse flavors, and is absolutely pampering; however, it requires twice the amount of whisking to completely mix it into the water. I never knew anything could make me feel as pampered as when I am eating an organic dark chocolate, but First Harvest does it for me. I buy a tin of First Harvest for special occasions, holidays, or when I just feel that need for extra pampering. I know that something this good for you shouldn't be described as if it were a sinful indulgence, but to me, it certainly feels that way. Second Harvest is excellent for everyday use; it's a part of my morning routine. It's healthy, it's delicious, and it gives you a little caffeine boost. The way I prepare either First or Second Harvest DoMatcha is to mix 1 tsp to 1 tbsp into what is probably about a cup of water but I'm not certain, as I haven't measured the water. What I can say is this: I like it thick, creamy and frothy. I do not add anything to it. When I run out of DoMatcha and am waiting a few days for my next order to come in, I go to my backup: organic bagged green tea (no longer Bigalow brand). I used to drink Bigalow Organic Green Tea daily, but it cannot compare to matcha in any way; it is a far inferior product in terms of flavor, texture, and health benefits. In general, bagged green teas will not be in any way creamy/frothy and will have a lot more bitterness. For green tea lovers, matcha is a huge upgrade that I recommend to anyone. Regarding Bigelow bagged green tea, I eventually learned that the tea actually comes from China, not from their plantation in SC, which greatly angered me because I felt like I had been deceived all that time. The company makes a big deal out of their SC plantation but doesn't sell the teas online or in any stores I have access to. I also learned that anything coming out of China, even if labeled organic, is not healthy due to unavoidable exposure to toxins and pollutants that run rampant in the air, soil, and water.

I would give it six or seven stars here if they allowed it. You get what you pay for, my friends, and this is the MOST HEAVENLY thing on earth to drink--tastewise and healthwise. However, I will tell you that we use 1/2 Teaspoon in a 1 pint bottle of Lipton ICED green tea. I make a pot every morning and have completely replaced the morning coffee ritual with green tea. It gives you the right lift and does not let you down at 11 am. We still have 3 pm Senseo Douwe Egberts Colombia Blend Coffee Pods, 16-Count Packages (Pack of 4) on days when we exercise, but we've broken our addiction to coffee with cream now. It has the most EGCG and mixed catacholamine antioxidants of any green tea product you can imagine. There is a small insert with the packaging that details the contents for you and also contains the recipe for a Green Tea Frappachino that looks just great. We tried to "do it on the cheap" with Vita Life Matcha (Green Tea Powder) - 10.58 Oz Twin Pack - 2x10.58 Oz but it has an aftertaste that I don't really like. The Do Matcha is the real article, and it's organic as well. It's so concentrated that it's actually economical. You will save $4.00 every time you make your own Starbuck's Green Tea Frappachino. If you want to know what this tastes like go try one of those which are fantastic but contain a lot of calories and fat: our iced tea with Do Match is much healthier and every bit as delicious.

Of course great matcha powder is expensive, but this product hits a sweet spot by providing the quality it advertises. As others have said, there is four-layer protection here. The can itself has a screw top, then there's a pop-top to open the container, then there's a foil bag, and finally there's a silicate anti-moisture pack in the bag. This is as close to freshly-ground as you can possibly get in a shipped product. The tea was the neon-green color top-quality matcha should be, and I am very happy with the taste of my first cup. People with a serious palate like me might say this isn't the very best taste available in the world, but it is certainly worth of the "ceremonial" banner- I would feel proud to offer this tea to my most esteemed guests. Note to beginners: Matcha should be made at a lower temperate than most black teas. If you pour boiling water over your matcha powder you're basically roasting it on the spot and altering the flavor. Traditionally, you should boil the water as normal and then allow it to cool for a few minutes (to around 80C/180F) before making your tea. To maintain this lower temperature, you may also want to swirl a bit of the hot water in cups before making tea, so the cups don't chill the tea further before drinking. There's certainly a good caffeine high- I can see why others claim this product produces exceptional clarity. Part of it is likely the absolute freshness, as you're getting the product at its peak. Someone coming from bagged or even bulk loose-leaf tea is likely to notice the difference. Highly recommended, and certainly only for ceremonial tea- I would never waste this grade of tea making ice cream or lattes as a lower-cost brand would do that job just as well. For making straight tea, without embellishments, this is a top-quality product.

DōMatcha was one of the first companies to market Matcha teas to the west. It's one of the more well known brands of Matcha worldwide. Even though it is expensive I wanted to try it to compare to other Matchas. This is a ceremonial grade Matcha; not cheap. It has wonderful color and flavor. It foams up nicely when you whisk it and it is slightly less bitter than premium grade Matcha. It comes in an resealable can like you see in Japanese homes. If you want to save money, try premium grade Matchas. Premium grade Matcha is a notch below ceremonial grade Matcha but most people can not tell the difference. It is much less expensive. I suggest Tealyra Organic Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder; $6.25 per ounce or Dō DōMatcha Summer Harvest Matcha ($11.00 per ounce , two premium grade Matchas I also like. Since many of the Matcha tea questions on Amazon pertain to radiation contamination of green teas, I thought I'd mention that DōMatcha teas are grown in Kagoshima (700 miles away from the nuclear disaster that occurred in Fukushima) and Uji, Kyoto and (325 miles away from the nuclear disaster that occurred in Fukushima), so radiation is not much of a concern (for me). Tanoshimu! (Japanese for enjoy)

This was the first time I had ever tried Matcha Tea. I read the reviews and thought it sounded great. I decided to pay the high price for this tea because of the reviews it got. I was absolutely shocked when I received the tea, however. It comes in a tiny tin. Inside the tiny tin is a tiny foil pouch. Inside the tiny foil pouch is a silicone packet to keep the tea dry. There was a lot of tea "stuck" to this little packet. So basically you get about two tablespoons of tea, if that, for well over $20. To me it looked like a "sample" product that would be worth a couple of dollars. Yes, the tea is a lovely shade of green. I made my own recipe of chai spices with ginger, cloves and cinnamon. I added frothed, unsweetened almond milk. It was good, but not good enough to justify paying that much. Fortunately I am never dissatisfied with Amazon.com because, as always, they offer immediate refunds for products that don't live up to their standards of customer satisfaction. I'm going to try another organic green tea that is highly rated next time. I probably won't be able to tell any difference. I'm sure this product is good tea. The question is whether or not it's so much better than the other highly-rated green teas that it is worth close to $24 for a couple of cups. For me it is not. This is yet another experience with Amazon that proves I can't go wrong buying through them. Thanks, Amazon, for truly making shopping a risk-free adventure. I am now editing my original review and I have changed the rating from 2 to 4 stars. There is no other matcha tea like this one. It gives me energy. It tastes great. The kind of energy it gives me is a sense of calm, well-being, and energy without any jittery feeling. It lasts many hours, but I don't "crash." I like it, and it's worth the extra money. I will be ordering it again.

I thought this was a great flavor-filled tea and without all the added sugar that Starbucks adds into theirs. I still felt like I made a great green tea latte that I would compare to Starbucks without all the added sugar. Made mine with low-fat milk, though I want to try it was coconut milk. The only thing I didn't like was the price. I should have done the math before I purchased...but basically this 1oz tin only gives about 6 cups of tea if you use a tsp. per cup! That comes out to about $4.30 per cup of tea! That seems like a lot to me...I thought I had purchased the 2.8oz tin but I guess accidentally put this one in my cart instead. If I were to do it again, I would at least get the 2.8oz tin which would make it only about $2.05/cup which seems WAY more reasonable! Other thank the price--I felt like it was a great buy. Will consider buying a larger tin next time or try a new brand for a cheaper price. ***UPDATE*** I calculated the amount of tea incorrectly. I still feel like the price is high, BUT I got a lot more usage out of it than I previously stated! I used anywhere between 1/2tsp to 1 tsp and received WAY more than 6 cups as I previously thought. I made smoothies with anywhere between 1/2tsp-1 tsp of powder and did it nearly for five days straight for probably 3 weeks. I did not pack the tea down, which is probably what some of that miscalculation came from and I used a conversion chart which didn't factor in powders.

It smells like Henna at first. But you'll get used to it in 3-4th time. The smell won't irritate anymore and you'll actually start liking the product. I enjoy my cup of matcha in the morning. Go for it. Overall a nice and fine product.

I’ve been really enjoying the DoMatcha Organic Ceremonial Matcha Powder. The quality is excellent, with a beautiful vibrant colour, smooth texture, and a fresh, earthy flavour that tastes much better than many other matchas I’ve tried. It blends easily and makes a delicious cup of matcha whether prepared traditionally with water or added to a latte. This is the third brand of Matcha I am consuming and by far the best. The packing is perfect, the taste smooth with just a tinge of grassiness.

So I have been subscribed to this specific brand and grade for several years now. I drink it ceremonial style, most mornings, and it never fails to perk me up even as it soothes, as contradictory as that may sound, but that’s the magic of matcha. I experimented a fair bit with different brands before I settled on this one, and I can say with confidence that I have found the perfect balance between high end quality and competitive pricing. Just try finding quality organic matcha at this dollar per gram ratio, plus the subscriber’s discount. There is some degree of variation in the flavour profile. I have had some batches where subtle notes of grassiness were present, but most of the time it has a very clean, creamy taste. It is a living product, like quality wine, so you should expect some variation, stemming from the yearly differences in growing conditions, such as climate. Just make sure you prepare it right. My recipe: 1.5 grams matcha (sieved, recommended), add 6 grams water (not too hot or it’ll get bitter) and mix until paste is smooth. Then add another 80 grams water and whisk until froth and creamy consistency are achieved. Don’t over-whisk or you’ll over-activate the catechins and, again, it’ll get bitter. Use more or less water to taste.
