Much better than the SpotBot!
We used to have a Bissell SpotBot, and used it frequently, due to two young children constantly making messes. However, after the first few uses, we stopped using the automated feature of the SpotBot, because it uses a TON of shampoo, and cleaning up spills and stains with the hand tool took a fraction of the time anyway. The SpotClean Pro has a more compact footprint than the SpotBot, which is nice for storage. It also has more suction, which seems to do a better job of sucking all of the solution out of the carpet or upholstery, so everything dries faster. This also means that it should suck more of the stains out. I also much prefer the hose storage of the SpotClean Pro, compared to the SpotBot, which required wrapping the hose around the base of the unit, which inevitably caused tangles with the cord while trying to put it away. One of my favorite features though is the ability to thoroughly clean the recovery tank. The recovery tank on the SpotBot got NASTY...and there is no way to clean it out, because the only way to get to the inside is through the dump hole in the bottom. On the SpotClean Pro, the whole lid comes off, and there aren't really any nooks or crannies for gunk to hide in. Also, both the solution storage tank and the recovery tanks are MUCH larger than on the SpotBot, so you can get more cleaned with fewer trips to the bathroom to dump and refill. I do have a couple complaints about this unit though...it's rather heavy to lug around, and it's so loud that I have started wearing ear plugs while cleaning spots to prevent hearing damage. If you can get beyond that though, it gets an A+ for performance. General comment on carpet shampooing: Carpet shampoo attracts dirt, which causes stains. Use half of the manufacturer's recommended concentration of shampoo and you should notice less recurring stains, with little or no loss of cleaning power. Better yet, do a rinse step after shampooing to remove the shampoo from the carpet.

HONEST REVIEW FOR OWNING THIS FOR OVER A YEAR
Let me start by mentioning that I've never gone back a year later to review a product before now. I've only ever written reviews within a couple of weeks of receiving a product so for me to take the time to write this review a year later means A LOT. Having 2 dogs may instantly give you the image that our carpets are a mess and you wouldn't be wrong to think that. Between us and our dogs...our carpet is littered with stains. Initially, we thought the stains were a one off thing...so we splurged and got our carpets professionally cleaned. After the first couple of professional carpet cleanings (because the dogs continued to pee on the carpet so we had to get more than one cleaning)...we decided that we needed a cheaper-in-the-long-run alternative...especially since we knew that there probably would be future stains. This carpet cleaner is one of the best investments we've ever made. I can't tell you how easy it is to use on top of how clean it makes the carpets once you've used it. Our most recent love affair with this carpet cleaner was this past weekend. We're having friends in town for the week ahead and wanted to make sure our place was tidy and clean. Using this on our carpets for maybe 30/40 minutes made a HUGE difference. We use this thing for a good deep clean and each time we use it...I'm always impressed with its strength. It's super portable and easy to store away. The next time I use it, I'll take before and after photos to share so you can see how great it works. You know how sometimes these reviews will include a little pre-typed message about how they weren't paid or given any incentives to write the reviews...well, I don't have a pre-typed message for you but I can promise you this company never reached out to me to write any kind of review and we paid the full price for this item with zero incentives. I'm reviewing this simply based on the fact that we really love this cleaner and want others to know how well it works.

Very happy with this machine. Gets rental machine results in a small compact package. Loud though.
A carpet cleaner needs to do two things: 1. Spray a controlled stream of cleaning solution onto/ into the carpet 2. Suck that solution along with any dirt, back out of the carpet This machine does both of those things well. It is intended as a small portable cleaner to spot clean as the name implies, but can practically be used to clean entire small rugs as well. It is small and portable and easily fits in my cleaning supply closet. I would not want to try to use it to do a whole room's wall to wall carpet, the suction hose is too short and the tank capacity is too small. You could absolutely do it and get great results but it would be a lot of uncomfortable work. Better to rent a commercial machine for that. Takes only a minute or so to fill and set up, so you can clean spills as they happen before they soak in, set and dry. So far (received it yesterday) I have cleaned two 5 x 7 area rugs. Each took about 30 minutes to do (getting as much soiled liquid back out of the fibers is the most important and time consuming part). Pre-treated obvious stains with Shout laundry pre-treater, then used the Bissell as instructed. Bottom line, both rugs are spotless and as new. Colors are again vibrant and clear. Probably will take 2 days or so for both to dry completely, then I'll vacuum to re-align the fibers. I may try OxyClean as the pre-treat in the future, though the Shout worked perfectly. The most satisfying part of using machines like this is dumping the soiled water down the sink. "Man, all of that brown gunk came out of my carpet?" Then you look at your refreshed, bright, clean rug or carpet satisfied with a job well done. The room looks brighter and the air smells cleaner. As I am a bachelor, my standard MO prior was to buy area rugs for $100 or less every 6 months or so. Nice enough looking but not too expensive, because I inevitably get spots and stains on them and just leave them on the curb for trash collection and replace them as needed. Red wine, food spilled, etc. I have 4 or 5 of them throughout the house. I had two such stained rugs rolled up in a closet that I've been meaning to toss, but instead bought this unit and cleaned them back to like-new condition. With this one purchase and 1 hour of effort, I saved myself about $200 in new carpet purchase which more than paid for the cleaner. I'd call that money well spent. One potential downside is that it is pretty loud- louder than a standard vacuum cleaner. You would really have to raise your voice to have a conversation above it. The motor's exhaust is on one side of the cleaner, so you can point if away from you to reduce the noise, but I'll probably use earplugs in the future just to reduce the nuisance factor. By design, you have to kneel down next to it no more than 3 ft away. 2 year manufacturer warranty means that Bissell stands behind it, which speaks volumes to me in this "offshore cheap manufacture" world we live in now.

Lightweight, VERY PLEASED with purchase, although quite a physical workout to clean stairs! Great
I’ve been looking for YEARS for a stairway carpet cleaner. I’ve had an upright Panasonic carpet cleaner for about 15 years that works like a total Pro. It came with a carpet attachment, which I found utterly useless. Our stairwell has 14-yr-old Berber carpet (withstands wear, but horrible to clean). Someone has only lived upstairs for 5 of those years, when my MIL came to live with us. DH, myself and 2 active dogs went up and down those stairs for 5 yrs. One dog LOVED to scratch herself on front of stairs. In SC, we have RED dirt which is nearly impossible to remove. I had my eye on this cleaner for over 3 months, before I took the plunge and bought it. PROS: It is very light (13 lb, plus water/waste tank water) and quite compact. Easy to clean Small to store There is NO machine that would make old carpet look new, but I am thrilled with the results on our stairs after a heavy workout with the Bessel CONS: (why I could only give it 4 stars) It is LOUD, REALLY AIRPLANE TAKING OFF loud. I nearly asked DH for earplugs! We have an older home with very narrow stairs. Machine would (probably) rest on NORMAL stairs, but I had to balance it with my hip and leg, or hold with one hand, while cleaning with the other, meanwhile trying to NOT fall down the narrow stairs (broke a foot, 2 yrs ago!). With our stairs, it would work better to have one person balance machine while the other scrubs the carpet. It takes considerable ‘elbow grease’. My standup cleaner has wonderful rotating brushes. With this baby, YOU are the rotating brush, so scrub/scrub/scrub and try not to fall down stairs! I am nearly 70, and in decent shape, but it was a major physical challenge to clean those stairs!!! I watched some YouTube videos and followed a great suggestion - put cleaning solution in a spray bottle, sprayed, let sit. Then, I only used hot water in the machine, which prevented leaving a soapy residue, and let me determine how much cleaner any spot needed. The suction works great, IF you find the right angle. I sprayed from bottle with cleaner, spray-scrubbed back and forth with machine, then suctioned until most of the water was out of the carpet. It didn’t suck up as well on edges and fronts of stairs, just hard to get to with a good seal. I tried it on my husband’s garage chair, and ancient fabric chair and it was fairly easy to use on it and made a huge difference in removing dirt. Also tried a tiny spot on an area rug, and it works well for that, although they are LARGE area rugs, and I would be cautious about over-wetting, and ruining laminate flooring underneath. I RECOMMEND this machine. I’ve only used for a day, so can’t testify as to long it holds up. If it is ANYTHING like my Panasonic upright carpet cleaner I’ve had for 15 yrs, it may outlive me!

Great For Spills and General Cleaning
I purchased this product as it had gone on sale for a brief moment and had been needing a Portable Carpet Cleaner for my house. We have a dog and a small child so messes and spills are abundant, especially when the entire house has carpet. This is great for when something is spilled on the carpet as I can grab it and have it cleaned up in less than 5 minutes. I usually keep some water in at all times just in case to quickly suck up a spill or clean a mess up. Pros - 1. Very easy to use - I am able to have it full of hot water with cleaner in just a few minutes, the power cord is very long so that eliminates having to use a extension cord, the vacuum hose and two heads work very well and are a great length. 2. Maintenance - After every use I will be sure to empty the dirty water out, clean the vacuum head out with clean water, and if I used for for a while I will turn it on and run clean water straight through the vacuum hose to remove dirt and dog hair from it. 3. Storage - I think the biggest benefit of this product is how the power cord and vacuum hose are stored, there is no way that they are able to come unraveled or loose when it is put up. 4. Cleaning Ability - I have used this multiple times to clean spills from drinks, food, or when the dog has an accident. I have not had an issues with it not being able to clean it up and remove the spill or stain. If it is something that has had time to dry, I will spray it with cleaner and let it soak a few minutes, then use this on it. 5. The other reason I purchased this product is to help when cleaning vehicle upholstery like seats and carpet. The smaller vacuum head is perfect for this as I am able to get into the smaller spaces of the cars and clean the carpets and seats with it. Cons - 1. The only con is that sometimes the clean water container will leak if it is not seated properly in the unit, not a huge deal as it is clean water, but still something that can get annoying. However, this is something that does not take away from the ability of unit. 2. It does come with two vacuum heads, however, I am only able to store on head on it easily. I could keep the smaller head in the dirty water container, but end up just sitting it on top of it. But this is a minor thing. Overall, this is a great unit to have on hand for easy clean up of spills on carpet for furniture or to be used in a vehicle.

Home birther highly recommends this
I birthed at home. I had the bed prepared with plastic and old (clean) sheets. I had a birth pool with a tarp under it. We had at least 30 towels. I wound up birthing on the carpet, on a part that wasn't protected by a tarp or a drop cloth or shower curtain or other sheet of plastic. I birthed my baby there, my baby pooped there, and I birthed the placenta there - because I was already there, I didn't want to move. You can imagine the mess. And you'll have to imagine the mess - I didn't think of getting a 'before' picture for this review (I HAD just given birth, ya know). There was quite a mess. So then I went to my bedroom, which is eight feet away from where I gave birth and I rested with my newborn while someone (my husband maybe?) got to work on the carpet. This machine IS loud, BUT with the door closed it sounded like a low hum, even from just eight feet away. When you're actually using it it's pretty loud, but the sound doesn't go through our cheap, hollow doors too much. Anyway, unless you brought a forensic team you wouldn't be able to tell that there was blood and baby poop and whatever else all over the carpet. It's an off-white, cheap carpet and it looks totally clean thanks to this little machine. So if it can handle birth, I'm sure it can handle whatever you're doing to your carpets. Also, I noticed a lot of reviews skirting around the fact that their pets pee and poop in their houses. They make it sound like their pets are making messes in a variety of ways. Like what, is your dog a messy painter? Is your cat having keggers? No. They're peeing in your house. Just say it. Half of the people reading your review are wanting to know how this machine handles "pet messes" so just tell them. If you get to the pee soon, it sucks the pee up quite nicely. Then you spray it with the cleaning solution, scrub, and suck that up too. No pee smell remains. Your dog have an accident and step in it and track it all through the house? This machine can handle it. Pick up the solids with a bag, turn on all the vents in the house cause damn it stinks, and go around scrubbing up the poopy paw prints. This machine can handle it. The only thing is that you really need to empty the dirty water part frequently or it'll spread an awful smell. BTW, our cat who pees everywhere is being rehomed to my parents. Oh, and I don't use the Bissell cleaning solution in this. It makes the carpet crunchy. Instead I use whatever I'm in the mood for, warranty be damned. If it breaks I'll just buy another. Sometimes I use vinegar and water, sometimes I use nice-smelling dish soap, sometimes I use essential oils. I mix it up and they all clean just fine.

Best Bissell Ever!
So here's my story. My 9 year-old daughter conned my wife and I into getting her ferrets. Yes, two ferrets, because one by itself is a bad idea and it will be lonely. So we now have two, high-power, high-output pooping machines. These things are epic. I estimate they put out approximately 100% of their body weight in poop each day - by nine am. It became very quickly apparent that ferrets are not as quick to potty train as, say - a dog. Or any other domesticated animal. That's because they aren't domesticated animals. They are weasels. No, really, that's what they are. Cute weasels. That poop. All. The. Time. They aren't keen to use their litter boxes, either. Where was I? Oh yeah... I realized that I needed to order a new spot cleaner, and fast! This is not my first spot cleaner rodeo. I've had the Bissell Little Green machines and various other iterations and versions and brands and models. Bissell has gotten it right with this one. When I did my research, the Bissel had an average rating of 4.2, while the next brand had 4.0 and the other brand had 3.8. There really were only three serious contenders in the reviews. While it might seem simple to take the 4.2 rating and run with it, I read the reviews carefully to make sure it was the right one. It was... this is an outstanding carpet cleaner in every way. It is easy to fill and refill. It is easy to clean and empty - much easier than earlier versions. It is very well-designed. Bissell has taken 20 years of experimenting on us with their green machines and spot cleaners and finally nailed it. I rate it five stars, not 4.2. It is exceptional. The handles work the way you would expect them to work. The cord is long and easy to take off and re-wrap, the machine is not unreasonably loud and perhaps most important of all, it REALLY cleans your carpet well. The ONE THING I would caution you, is that most people use WAY TOO MUCH cleaner. It is human nature, we think a little more will be better. But with carpet cleaner, it isn't. You just end up leaving residue behind and that attracts dirt and gets the carpet dirty faster. Go with the recommended amount of cleaner. This is the machine to get, whether you have ferrets, kids, dogs, mud or whatever staining your carpets. You won't be sorry.

My new favorite toy
We have white carpet and a new puppy. I was getting tired of the Oxyclean, towels and elbow grease method and didn't want to keep renting a Rug Doctor or shelling out for a pro cleaner every few weeks (let alone living with the stains and smells in between cleanings), so I decided on getting one of these. I'm really happy with this little workhorse. I was deciding between this model and the pet specific SpotBot. I chose this one because of its larger tank capacity and multipurpose design (use on stairs and cars). Plus, in case of larger stains, I didn't want to have to move the unit in case it couldn't all fit under the circular cleaning area. Got this yesterday and used today. The first thing I noticed was the minimal amount of packaging in this box. No styrofoam either, so that's always good. It's already assembled - just snap on one of the brush tools. This came with a 3in and 6in. Pretty much identical attachments except for the width so I thought that was a bit redundant but I suppose the narrow one could come in handy for tighter spaces, wherever those might be. This came with a small bottle (8oz) of Deep Cleaning solution but I had also purchased the Pet Stain & Odor solution and used that instead. Filling up the tank was super easy. Just unscrew the cap and fill to the line with hot water (heat helps with cleaning) and add a capful of solution. I like that the tank has a flat side to sit on while you fill it. Then screw the cap back on, place back in unit, plug it in, press the only button that's on there and you're ready to go. At first I didn't think the spray trigger was working, but that's because it's a pretty fine mist and I was working with white carpet. I sprayed (1in above carpet like instructed), counted to 10 (thought I should give it some time) and then vacuumed. I was delighted to see the solution being sucked back and the carpet getting cleaner. Do not expect an instant squeegee-like result - you'll have to take a couple passes spraying and vacuuming. I experimented with going up and down, then in diagonals. I pressed down quite a bit to make sure all the liquid had been sucked up so that got a bit tiring but the results are worth it. The carpet looks really great and the scent from the Pet solution is nice but slight, which I like. Cleaning up was a breeze too. Pull out the dirty tank, swing the lever/handle down, take off the top and pour it out. Rinse out both tanks and take off the attachment to rinse that too. The hose dripped a bit, as did the clean tank when I took it out from the unit but I'm ok with that. The hose and the power cord wrap up nicely and lock into place. This unit is compact, relatively light and quiet (come on, it's a vacuum), super easy to use and works well.

A MUST HAVE FOR PET OWNERS WITH CARPETS
I particularly wanted to review this product because it's so darn good! 4 dogs, 3 cats. If you have pets you absolutely want this spot cleaner. Bissell hit the bulseye on this one. Very good quality plastics and overall industrial design. Very fast to fill or empty. Nice long cord, easy to unravel and wind up. Top quality hose. One button operation. Cleans very fast - almost a joy to clean up mess. If you own pets and carpets you will not be disappointed with this purchase.
