Excellent as second monitor on iMac 5K (and Win10 in bootcamp)
I just received this monitor today and have been using it for a couple hours. I usually wait before I write a review, but I thought it could be useful to others as my setup is a bit different than most. I'll edit it if something happens in the future.I'm using this monitor (P2415Q) as a secondary monitor on an iMac 5k (retina), both on OSX (El Capitan) and Windows 10 (in bootcamp). 24" is a bit of an overkill here, but I wanted HiDPI because there is no way I can use a non-"retina-like" monitor next to the iMac's gorgeous screen, and for some reason, manufacturers are so attached to the 4K label that they won't make smaller ones with very high PPI. Anyway.I chose this one for several reasons. The main ones are :- Ultra HD, same quality as a retina screen.- IPS panel- SST (Single Stream Transport), which means the monitor is seen as a single normal monitor, not as two side-by-side ones, which is a common trick used by many 4K monitors to bypass physical limitations.Less important but nice to have :- It's a Dell. You may think what you want about Dell, but they're actually very good at monitors.- Semi-matte screen. Yay !- USB ports galore. While it will take up one USB port on your iMac, you get an additional 3 USB 3.0 ports for your trouble.- All the cables you need are included.- It supports portrait mode. While that can be awkward on a 24" 16:9 monitor, it's also useful from time to time.First impressions- It looks nice enough. The bezels are ok. The overall finition is very good, and it feels sturdy and well made.- I'm using it on a VESA stand, so I didn't take a very good look at the stand, but again, it's sturdy, and looks like most Dell stands. I like having the option, and knowing that if I ever need it, it's fully adjustable (height, tilt and pivot).- The VESA mount : the screws are included. Thank you, Dell. Mounted and connected in 5 minutes, tops.- It's light enough that it won't pull my stand's arm down and it's easy to adjust and move around.DetectionThe monitor was automatically detected when I plugged it in - I didn't even restart the iMac. It's recognized as P2415Q, resolution is the right one right away, refresh rate is 60Hz, and, well, you plug it in and it just works. Awesome. One thing I was really surprised by : it works just the same in Windows 10 in Bootcamp. I was a bit worried about that, but I just booted into Windows, and the monitor was working, automatically set at the max resolution and 60Hz. I didn't have anything to do there either.Portrait mode also "just works" in both OS.All in all, I was expecting a bit of work, but it was all set and done as soon as I plugged the monitor in the iMac.Image and text qualityAs I'm now very much used to Retina, I didn't get the "wow" factor a lot of you have. But it's as good as you'd expect. The text is extremely crisp, clear and readable, even at 3840x2160. The only thing is, it's not very bright and I will have to play a bit with the settings. Side by side with the iMac, the whites are much less white by default, and it's clearly not as bright, even with the setting at 100% (probably a side effect of the semi-matte coating). But the definition is excellent.Note that I mostly work with text, so I can't and won't comment on photos and colors - not my domain. Conclusion : if you want a HiDPI monitor but can't afford, or don't have room for a 27" - go for it without hesitation. If you can get a 27" then please do : 3860x2160 on 24" will give you very small texts and icons. Although it's very readable, most people will have to play with scaling settings. If you do, be aware that a lot of apps, especially on Windows, don't manage that very well just yet. Windows itself does, but a fair number of apps look bad with scaling. No problems on Mac, since Retina has been there for 3 years and Apple pushed everybody to adjust their software.

Extraordinary purchase, great value, excellent Amazon service
One of the best purchases I made for a monitor. Be aware that it has a matte finish and the graininess of the whites can be annoying at times while reading a webpage or book. A lot of fans of the matte finish, but I am one of the few that prefers a glossy screen. I do have to say that when I open the curtains and let light in, the graininess goes away and the picture looks flawless. I have had the ASUS PB287Q 4K monitor since 2014, and wanted this as my main, and the Asus as a second monitor for training videos, reading programming books, and general HULU shows while I research various topics playing in the background. The whites on my Asus were whiter than this monitor, but the color accuracy on this monitor is far better. Also, the Dell has an IPS panel so the viewing angles are great. The lower screen real estate makes for a very nice DPI for butter smooth text. I have an nVidia GTX 980 (4GB) driving it, and I have World of Warcraft maxed out w/ no anti aliasing and it looks gorgeous on this monitor. I am not a big FPS (First Person Shooter) game fan, so I can't attest to that, but I imagine it is just fine w/ the appropriate GTX 980 + or equivalent. The monitor was recognized @ 60hz 4k in both OS X Yosemite and Windows 10 with no special setup in the monitor fresh from unboxing. The Asus referenced above had to be setup in the Monitor's OSD settings. The cable Dell provides is a mini display port to display port cable. You can use this cable by plugging the mini end in the monitor and the regular end in your sound card OR! vice versa: display port side in monitor and mini display port in your video card / laptop / macbook. SPECIAL NOTE: If you use the mini display port on the monitor end and the regular display port to video card, be sure to go into the monitor's OSD menu and select miniDP as the source, it defaults to regular display port and will say "no signal found".I am not too sensitive to light bleeding, but I don't notice any on this monitor, the Asus I do. Also, there are warnings about IPS "Glow", but I am not sure what that is and I haven't experienced anything that detracted from my experience with this monitor. No dead pixels. Arrived two days earlier than shipping promise I paid for (3 to 5 days, came in 2, extraordinary service). If you have general use external speakers like I did (around a 50$ pair of Logitech is what I had), I HIGHLY recommend the Dell USB SoundBar AC511. An absolute compliment to this purchase. I also got it through Amazon, and though it was packaged and shipped from two different locations from the US, they arrived the same day as the monitor!! Again, awesome service from Amazon. It's those small touches that you don't expect that wow you. I read a complaint the base on these speakers. If you are not running a Saturday night disco out of your room, these speakers are phenomenal for the value! Great for general use, gaming, videos, and Netflix movies. Obviously if you are in the market for a theater experience, these aren't it, but they sound great, attach to this monitor neatly and really cleaned up my desk space. What's great is that when / if these great speakers go bad, I just detach from the monitor, throw away, and reorder a new bar. No need for a whole new monitor. Seriously, monitor manufacturers should just do this than build in a pair of cheap speakers that nobody uses and drives the price up.The monitor and sound bar were identified by OS X Yosemite 10.11.4 right away. Windows 10 didn't recognize the sound bar right away. Trying to get it to recognize it was a nightmare, so I did a fresh install and, for some reason, recognized right away during install. Maybe I had some residual drivers installed interfering with it.All in all extraordinary purchase and service experience with Amazon was remarkable.
