An interesting book; however, not for beginners!
Since receiving this book 4 days ago, I have worked through the first two chapters. The stories were interesting and held my attention.I enjoy the book's structure. Each story is followed by a glossary, summaries in English and Spanish, and several comprehension questions. The full stories are not available in English.Unfortunately, the book is not written for beginners. I am an intermediate reader and speaker and had to keep my Spanish dictionary app open at all times to frequently look up words that were not contained in the glossary. Another thing to note is that it seems as though the book is written in the Castilian dialect which was, at times, challenging. And, finally, the authors of the book are anonymous. Nowhere does it provide information about them, their backgrounds, or experiences in teaching Spanish.

Great Tool to help with Learning Spanish
While I agree with the one bad review that this isn't really a book for beginners, I think it's a great tool for those who aren't proficient. Some knowledge of Spanish is necessary to benefit from the book, and this could match well with duolingo's Spanish program. So if you are a beginner, I would suggest spending some time with the free duolingo app and then supplementing with this book. I think it's a great tool, and I haven't seen anything like this book, so thanks for creating it!!

Title Misleading
This is a good book. I'm not sure how to rate it, since I judge the title to be misleading. It is not suitable for beginners, unless you define beginner as that rare, super-motivated individual who plunges right in. The opening story has an extremely high reading level and many different tenses mixed together. When I think beginner I think of a children's book with one or two lines of text and many large and engaging illustrations. Would you start a beginning student in any language with a ninth grade level text? No, I say.

This is a Great book for beginners
This is a great book for beginners, I have read it several times now. I purchased the audiobook and then received a PDF version of the book ( you get the PDF when you purchase the audiobook). This is a fantastic way to hear the correct pronunciation and get an idea of the rhythm of the language as well. If you get a chance check out Storyling- language immersion website. ( From Lingo Mastery) Oscar is in the process of rolling out this great language learning platform. I think it is going to be a wonderful tool for language learners.Best Wishes on your journey!Brent L.

Good book but not for complete beginners
The book was a big help with my Spanish. I like how the different stories focused on different aspects of Spanish grammar, and I wish I would have thought about reading a book like this years ago. That said, like others have mentioned, this is definitely not for the complete beginner. If I hadn't been learning Spanish on and off with Babbel and Duolingo for a couple years then I would have been completely lost. Even with the Spanish practice and learning I've had I still wrote all sorts of notes throughout the book.I'd recommend it for beginner/intermediate speakers. It's definitely a big help when coupled with a good language program/app.

I love this book
I love this book!! But, I do not think this is a book for absolute beginners. I have been studying Spanish for a long time with long breaks in between. My biggest problem was that I never had a good book to read to help me deepen my studies. That’s how I learned English by reading books. Finally I found a great book in Spanish. Love the summary in both languages and the vocabulary section. To make it even better I just saw the audible version on this book. Really a great tool to learn this beautiful language.

Fun way to build your vocabulary
I love these short stories in Spanish. This one has a great vocabulary list and a story summary after each story. Also a little quiz to help you know what you have understood. These stories are the best way for me to build my vocabulary. And if you need, you can copy from your ebook and paste to iTranslate to get a translation of anything you’re having trouble with. Makes learning Spanish fun.

Challenging for beginners
This is a challenging reader for beginners because it is written all in past tense. The stories are interesting and appropriate. The vocabulary and question lists are very helpful, although for kindle reading it would be easier if the vocabulary list was first instead of at the end. It wouldn’t matter so much with a hard copy book. It does help to have a Spanish/English dictionary handy. It has been enlightening to see that I understand more than I thought I did and I still have so much to learn.

Beginners avoid!
Let’s start this review by turning these stories into English. Then take them to an educational publisher. Say these are ‘captivating stories for beginners in English’. You would be shown the door. Sentences too long, unnecessary adverbs, vocabulary that overwhelms the story flow. No repetition of expressions from one story to another. Now we turn to this book with its ‘captivating Spanish stories for beginners’. For beginners!! This is a joke. if you know the imperfect subjunctive (se diera cuenta) you’ll be okay. It crops up throughout. The present subjunctive is a challenge all on its own There are also less common words used as well as Latin American. These are stories for well-read intermediate Spanish learners. Okay beginners: translate ‘de repente sus labios se despegaron ligeramente en asombro’. (Suddenly his lips parted slightly in amazement). How would you translate: ‘she rushed to open the door’. Why not: ‘his mouth opened in amazement’ and plain simple: ‘she opened the door’?If you are a beginner, you want to read simple sentences with a gentle vocabulary build up.. Expressions and vocabulary needs to repeated. Beginners give up if they looking into the dictionary at every line. A beginner is not going to make sense of: ‘evitense un castigo y evitenmelo a mi’. This is too smart arse. (Actually it makes little English sense in the translation given by LingoMastery.)After this effort, I wouldn’t trust this company to run a bath let alone a language course. Beginners would be better off reading the periodical ‘20 Minutos’ available within the app Noticias Espana. Short simple familiar news stories of the day plus some insights into Spanish life. Highly recommended.

A mix of European and south American spanish
I have given this book 3 stars as it is very good but lucky for me my girlfriend is spanish and from spain, so if you are wanting to learn authentic spanish this book contains a lot of south American spanish that is not used in spain. So be careful!

this is NOT for beginners
Not only is this certainly not for beginners it uses words and sentences that Spanish people would never use. at one point the story mentions children in the park and it clarifies quite strangely that the children are both male and female, nobody writes/talks like that.
