The Rising of the Shield Hero Volume 14: Light Novel

The moment I saw it I couldn’t be more excited. And it’s such a amazing read so far and I’m only 13 pages in.

I’ve been reading this series since the beginning, I really enjoy it. To me this feels different than the usual “isekai” genre but in a good way.

It’s a very good series

Still a good read. But it doesn't stand up to the likes of Mushoku Tensei in terms of quality or structure.

Finally, that this book arrives! One word I can describe this volume: disappointed. I like this arc because I want to know about Raphtalia’s parent and their homeland, and we got to see Siltvelt. We learn more about Sadeena’s background, some characterization for her and her sister in this volume. The bad guy is not fleshed out. She’s one note and described as being like Bitch. Our heroes only met her ghost and she said only had a handful of sentences. She’s just evil. The rebellion barely had much resistance, it’s a smooth cruise to conquering the country. And this trope at the end when Naofumi caught a glimpse of Raphtalia’s ghost parents. WHAT!?!?!?! Does it deserve that kind of ending? We learn a bit about her parents from Sadeena but I would barely notice if they weren’t mention at all. There wasn’t enough buildup or connection to the parents for ghost parents. Sweet but WHY???? Not a bad book to wrap things up but it doesn't give that satisfaction of other arc endings. Rushed, anticlimactic, and disappointing. It could've been better, like if Raphtalia herself learns more about her parents and the the country they came from. But she's barely invested in Q'ten Lo. The pros I can think of was Sadeena and her sister. Whenever they take center stage, those were the best/enjoyable moments of the book. I still enjoy the humor. Will I get the next book? Of course, I love the series. But this volume? The author missed the mark.

Good read if you like the series obviously very different than the anime.

I love the shield hero series, but this book really felt kinda like filler to me which sounds odd considering this deals with Raphtalia and Sadeena's past. Make no mistake we've had detours from the mystery of the waves plot from time to time, but this particular detour was just kinda thrown together. Much like the nation of Q'ten Lo, everything is really detached from the main plot despite setting up a few interesting plot hooks in the previous book like the spirit pacifier weapons. The antagonists are not fleshed out and it just becomes a series of battles with character moments only few in number. I could reread any of the other books, but this one is too much of a slog.

It arrived in perfect state and right at the release scheduled time. The story gets even more interesting in this volume with the closure of the Q'ten Lo arc, it has a great amount of action with the multiple major fights that occur through it, pretty good character introduction + development and the right amount of feels by the end of the volume. If you are a fan of the series this will not disappoint you, in fact it will make you happy as it's an increase in the quality of the story and has a nice ending to the origins of Raphtalia's parents. Definitely worth your time to get your hands into this.

Finalmente o a invasão a Q'ten Lo começa, eu achei simplesmente fantástico. O romance entre o Naofumi e Raphtalia continua a sua evolução a curtos passos, os outros relacionamentos se indireitam. A autora mostra mais do drama de outros personagem. Em geral foi uma ótimo light novel e estou no aguardo dos próximos volumes.

The shield hero series are ready well written. This volume has a good mix of action and funny moments! Recommended for all fans of this serie.
