Cassie the Slasher Slayer
An ode to 80's horror movies, Hack/Slash is a clever and fun series! The first omnibus is campy and action packed with good stories, some of which are homages to famous horror movies, and one I think was based off an X-Files episode; you'll see which. There's a lot of fan service in here, especially of Cassie with a lot of upskirt shots. Vlad so far is my favorite character, he's like Jason Voorhees if he was a good guy. Plus Cassie vs Chucky! I swear I was reading his dialogue in Brad Dourif's voice!

I liked it, but...
Just like the horror movies it lampoons, this series is cheap, flashy, and strangely addictive. (Note: I actually ended up purchasing this a few years after I initially read it back in 2011, as it stuck in my head for that long.) This comic aims hard for the lowest common denominator and for the most part it hits it. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse, but I really enjoyed this comic as a guilty pleasure read. You could probably do a lot better than this comic, but then I don't think Seeley was really aiming for a comic that would make you think. What really kept this from being as good as it could have been was that it assumed a lot of things. It assumed that not only would the reader be aware of all of the horror cliches (not an unreasonable assumption) but that they'd also be aware of people within the industry. At one point we see a storyline involving several comic book people and not many of them are really all that famous outside their particular circle or group of fans. As a casual reader I didn't really recognize most of them and I just didn't really get the connection that someone else might and it really kept me from getting into the comic as much as I'd have liked during these chapters. It's still fun and still worth checking out, but for many this will be a library read even if they're a big horror movie fanatic. For others, this will be something that will be a necessity on their shelves. Only after reading it will you be able to tell which one you are.

The only good omnibus of hack/slash
A very great collection of the first issues of hack/slash. The crossover with Chucky was phenomenal and was to me the best story of this series. A great read for people that love horror and are into horror movie parodies. Unfortunately, this is the only omnibus of this series that I can honestly say is enjoyable to read. The series takes a turn for the worst after this omnibus in my honest opinion and begins focusing on boring drama between characters, focuses on boring side characters instead of Cassie and Vlad as well as putting aside the whole "Hunters of slashers" premise and eventually just ditches the horror vibe altogether to go more toward an action/comedy/sci-fi feel. I strongly recommend that people buy this one book and leave it at that.

Poorly constructed book
The pages began to fall out within 30 minutes of reading the book. I literally didn't even get half way through before the entire first story fell out of the book, page by page. I am very disappointed in the quality of construction. I ordered the first three omnibuses but I haven't received the second two yet. I really hope they don't fall apart like this one did.

Serial killer to the serial killers!
I really enjoyed reading this book. So much so I will be ordering the next volumes in this series. The artwork and illustrations are great, a little dark but that just sets the mood. The main character and her sidekick hunt down and kill serial killers and dispose of them in all the bloody, gory fashion! If you're a fan of blood and gore this is for you.

I'm now a fan of Hack/Slash
I was curious about Hack/Slash and bought this omnibus to check it out. The concept has some shades of Buffy, but Cassie Hack is such an endearing and attractive character. This is the most interesting series I have come across in a long time since outgrowing Marvel titles like Iron Man and X-Men.The artwork is hit and miss, in my opinion. With the different artists working on each story it is somewhat inevitable, I guess. As a result, there isn't a distinctive look, and you might not like it as a result if you're that sort of reader. Otherwise, I've found a new favourite, and you might as well. The characters are quite good, with the slashers being sick SOBs that you'd love to see being butchered. I'd have given it 5 stars if not for the cartoonish artwork in the middle of the book.

Awesome
This is the best of Buffy and the best of Horror films. It may not be as good as Buffy, but you can tell this was in part influenced by the best bits of the Horror genre, Buffy included. This comic is sexy, violent, brutal and pretty hardcore. I like that different artists get a shot at illustrating this series which worked great for the Popgun series. This series also has great cameos from Evil Ernie, the Re-animator Chucky and even Robert Kirkman (creator and writer of the Walking Dead comic series) and is highly entertaining. I have all four volumes and I thought it was a brilliantly executed series. Hopefully when they finally make the movie they don't screw it up.

Fun read but some pages are in the wrong order.
This was my first introduction to Hack/Slash and it was great. If you enjoy slasher film you will enjoy this series, but keep in mind the while reading this omnibus there are two sections if different stories that get swapped for around five pages. It was confusing in the beginning but when you realize this just skip the pages and then go back to the pages when you get to that particular story.

My first comic book...
I'm not a comic book guy and never found any interest in reading superhero comics or anything like that. The most exposure I got from comics was watching Linkara's videos but nothing else really. Hack/Slash was introduced to me during his Halloween retrospective and I bought it just because it sounded cool. A goth chick and her disfigured ogre-like companion killing slasher villains and cracking jokes while at it. And truth to be told, I wasn't disappointed. Hack/Slash Omnibus featured some fun stories with clever writing and nice art-work. I'm definitely looking forward for more Cassie Hack's adventures. The stories are placed in chronological order and there are few extras beside the stories. It's well worth the price if you like silly girl beating the cliches of the slasher films.

Cassie's gonna get ya!
Great variety of artwork throughout the volume, done by different artists. There's also a really good cover and pin-up art gallery at the back of the book.Cassie is a very strong, well written female character. She's defiant, dedicated, likeable, logical and very loyal to those around her. She's written, drawn and acts in a very natural way throughout the book. The "vs chucky" story was the standout story i thought. I also liked "euthanized", "girls gone dead", and "land of lost toys".

Slasher horror at it's best
This is a great little number, for all you Friday 13th, Chucky, Halloween etc etc fans. The female survivor hits back in classic blow for blow style. Cassie Hack and Vlad trail various infamous slashers/serial killers/high school maniacs, with the culmination of The devil doll himself 'Chucky', in a somewhat surprising plot. Beautifully illustrated and good straight "go for it text" keeps the stories fresh and rolling along at a great pace. If you're a fan of slasher/horror flics buy this now. If you're not....well buy it anyway and you may become one. Top class.

Reccomended.
This is a really fun comic book. It's a quite hefty book obviously, but don't make that detract from the fun. its a great book, with well drawn panels and witty writing. I love this comic. if you're into horror, you'll get the various references that it makes.

Something's wrong with this download
Excellent comic. Can't fault the story or artwork. However, the description states that this is 300 pages long but I've only received 145 pages. I've tried deleting it and re-downloading but still only 145 pages. Plus some of the pages are in the wrong order. A very disappointed customer.

A comic with a (bloody) heart.
Hack/Slash is a fantastic series loaded with gore and a great sense of humour. Superbly written and beautiful art, i can't recommend it enough. B-movie horror at it's best.

Great if you like slasher style horror themes or girls kicking ass.
It does have more depth than 'heey here is a hot chick with a bat'. The friendship between cassie and vlad is quite sweet and cassie is not just tits and ass.

Great for anyone whos a fan gore and unique/interesting storytelling
The different artstyles used in each chapters give a certain flavor to each part of the story. The writing fits the characters and works well.

Intellectual? No. Fun? Yes.
You're likely to find alot of people raving about the wonder that is this book. For the most part, I'd say that it's a pretty good read. It doesn't quite live up to the hype, but it's certainly alot of fun. The things that drag it down are also the things that make it fun. It's a little one-dimensional, and geared to all the fanboys who love slasher movies, and that's fine. It's cheap and dirty fun. So enjoy it for what it is.Still beyond that minor criticism, I think the next big thing weighing it down, is the rather inconsistent, (and occasionally downright crappy) artwork. I'm not talking about each story having it's own art style. I'm talking about how some stories, have what seems to be a completely different artist every couple pages, and it can be really jarring. It's bad enough to drag the book down an extra star.Still, I recommend it for all you horror fans out there. It's a little quirky (though not very), it's violent (and how!), and for the most part reads like episodes of Supernatural. So all in all, this book may not get my highest recommendation, but I can say that Amazon's $20.00 price tag is at least fair. So at bare minimum, think about it. You could do a whole lot worse. Supernatural

Volune irreperibile nelle fumetterie italiane a buon preszzo

Intellectually Smart (NO) > Fun Smart (Yes)!
'Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 1' contains the original stories from ('Hack / Slash Volume 1: First Cut' & 'Hack / Slash Volume 2: Death By Sequel'). Which I have reviewed, thus if you'd like to check those reviews - that should sum up my review for this graphic novel in a nutshell.
