Ancient Rome: A New History Second Edition

I am about halfway through the book and was impelled to write this enthusiastic review. Prof. Potter offers insight and perspective, along with facts and dates. His thoughtful reflection on events, personalities, transitions, and leadership styles makes this work a pleasure to read and a fine example of how history should be written. You get wisdom along with the facts. I am glad my graduate program at the University of Florida has made his book a required part of our reading list.

Fantastic synthesis of a complex history. The new edition's use of additional colored maps and graphs is a definite help. Will be my standard reference for quite some time.

Not well written, but needed it for college so whatever. At least the packaging was nice.

Good read. Interesting revisionist. Do not agree with ALL his changes, but still informative.

Ended up not using for a class but appeared to be excellently researched and written.

Potter writes in a dense style.
