A great deal on an excellent drive. Works perfectly.

This model HGST has an excellent reliability rating (0.49% annualized failure rate with Backblaze | 24 out of 4,704 drives for 1,801,804 drive days). I dropped it into a Rosewill USB 3 cabinet to use as an external backup for my music collection. 2TB used and plenty room to expand. Runs very cool and quite in the Rosewill box.

MD TECH has great customer service and stands by their products. Definitely will purchase from them again.

I bought 4 of these (5 including the current order). Out of the 4, 3 works great, and one failed.

I recently got one of these drives and it arrived with a piece of paper with a printout of the results of a scan of the disk. Apparently they just put the result in the box and did not read them (or maybe they did). At the top of the report it says the drive FAILED the test and drive failure was expected in 24 hours (see attached photo). Amazon's instructions in that case was to contact the manufacturer, they even provided a link. That took me to wd.com. WD refused to help saying the message just indicated failure might happen and the drive was fine to use. Unbelievable. Fortunately, I was allowed to return the drive to Amazon for a full refund because I had just bought it. I have since done some research and Hitachi was acquired by WD years ago. According to Wikipedia, "By 2018, the HGST brand had been phased out, with its remaining products now marketed under the Western Digital name." HGST drives (ANY of them) on Amazon may be unused, but they are not new. There were made in 2018 or earlier. My experience indicates WD will not support them. Buyer beware. I bought the drive a few days ago and when I bought it it was listed as being sold by Amazon. Now it is listed as being sold by TechnoDeals. Amazon, shame on you for allowing these drives to be sold as new.

Packaging could have been a little better because I'm sure these delivery guys mishandle the package. Ran test before putting it in production, works great, added it to my array, and so far running solid. Only time will tell and be the true test. Found it to be a little noisy.

I purchase 4 items, one not functioning and other with bad SMART, so it should not be delivered. Choose new items instead, so you don't have to bother with issues. I know the price was good, but not worth it.
