If your renting out rooms, look at this.
Bought this because its a name brand with quality and its Zwave which works well with my security system. No longer have to keep buying door locks when renters take keys with them, just change the code. My security system logs unlock/lock and creates a log which could come into use if they claim theft or think someone entered their room, provided they locked it upon leaving. Installs fairly easy espcially if there is an existing door knob in door to replace. The part that took a bit of time is connecting wire from keypad to bedroom side assembly and putting together and keeping wire out of the way. If you have installed a door knob before, you can do this. No more duplicating keys or changing assembly due to missing keys! If renters lock themselves out or forgot their code, we can remotely unlock the door.

Love this lock but...
These are great if you have a zwave system. I wanted something that would notify me if opened. This almost does that. It can alert you through systems such as SmartThings that it's been unlocked but not opened. Also out of the box you're going to need a lock oil. Both locks refused to lock after being opened (timed auto lock), however using a good lock oil in the key hole has resolved my issues. Love being able to provide guests with key codes. Add or remove codes easily and the auto lock. Now If I could just get the kids to close the door on their way out it would work even better.

Inexpensive Z-wave lock
Batteries last a long time (12months+) and it was fairly easy to install into the door. Sync with my Habitat was painless and the lock seems to work fine. Two design flaws I noticed. Once is that the interior/exterior bracket "sandwich" needs to be tightened hard or should have some rubber gasket as there isn't much to keep it rotating the lock as the handles are pushed down over time. I've installed four of these so far and one of them had the exterior handle set screw fall out so the handle just spins. Maybe it should have had some loctite on the threads but at least it was a fairly stock item to pick up at the local hardware store. Other than that the locks have worked without issue.

Perfect for Private Room w/ AirBnB
I have an AirBnB with 2 listing, 1 listing with 2 bedrooms and 1 listing with 3 bedrooms. I wanted the to be able to secure the 3rd bedroom when someone booked just the 2 bedroom listing without having to deal with keys. This smart lock uses Z-Wave technology so it needs to be compatible. I have a ring security system and the base station suffices as the Z-Wave connection. I am able to lock/unlock via codes that can be input manually or remotely via the Ring app (or Kwikset app). The interface with the Ring app is the most important for me because it integrates with the security system of my home. See the video attached, when the lock is locked, the lever disengages but will still go up and down - instead of normal door knobs that donโt move the lever/handle at all. This device also pairs with Alexa, and you can tell Alexa to lock the lock via voice command. Alexa can also unlock the lock with a 4 digit security code via voice control. I am using this device on an exterior door so I did have several issues with the door not operating properly. I purchased a metal door knob spacer and I was able to slightly loosen the hardware and the door lock has worked properly ever since.

Great product imho
I had one at my last house and I have two more at my current house. Love the ability to rekey and adding it to my zwave network was easy. Once it was added, I can remotely add/remove key codes easily with my zwave program (I use zwavejs2mqtt). All of my smart home devices are controlled/contained in 'Home Assistant' and I have it setup to automatically unlock my door when I get home and pull into my garage. Also set it to automatically lock the doors if they are shut and have been unlocked for 20 minutes (I use zwave hinge sensors to tell if the door is open) . I love it Only grip is if your deadbolt is close to the regular handle, the battery cover of this device may get in the way and not fit properly. On 1 lock I have it improperly attached.

Disappointed - really hoping this lock would work!
This was the first Z-Wave lock I've purchased. I've installed my share of door lock hardware, including a good number of electronic deadbolts and locks. Pretty standard install - tried to follow directions carefully. Installed batteries and it promptly paired with Homeassistant - no issues at all there. But it seemed to have mechanical issues - especially when locking. About half the time it would lock as it should, and the other half it would either lock and then make a bunch of clicking sounds and beep as though it failed, or just repeatedly click and not lock at all. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined person, so thought that likely something was binding or moving too hard, so disassembled it again and verified that everything moved freely and nothing was binding. Turning the lock knob by hand worked fine and did not seem to be binding or anything. Disassembled and reassembled 2-3 more times, with the same results. Decided to give it a couple days and see if it improved, but if anything it got worse. So returned it to Amazon in exchange for another identical lock. In the meantime, I had purchased a Yale lock instead, since I needed 5 locks total anyway, so when it came in I installed it in the same door, and it has worked perfectly ever since. When the replacement Kwikset arrived, I installed it in another door, and the results were exactly the same as the first lock. Clicking, erratic and intermittent lock/unlock. Again checked all mechanical parts to make sure nothing was binding or anything. Left it installed for another couple days, but no improvement. Sent it back and installed another Yale - problem solved! I was hoping the Kwikset would work, as they are lower cost than the Yale, and perhaps I just happened to get two defective units, but I don't think I'll purchase any more of this particular model. I think it's an internal mechanical or sensor issue of some sort.

Great back door lock
I used this to replace a flakey 3-yr old Schlage Z-Wave lock that was mechanically jamming. I wouldn't call assembling the lock 'a breeze,' but everything went into place as expected; the only problem was that the cable that connects the two halves together is pretty short for reaching through the door, and required some dexterity that these 67-year old man hands were hard pressed to muster. ;-) Z-Wave programming was about average: it took a couple of tries to get the lock and the system in sync, even though there are two other nodes and a repeater nearby, but then everything fell into place. (Z-Wave products always say, "It's best to program devices no more than 12 inches from the system controller. Come on, with a door??) It hasn't failed to communicate with the system since being installed almost two weeks ago. I like the fact that the lock mechanism is the old-school rotating style. The former one had lock/unlock buttons, and we were constantly bumping them on the way out. With a more positive locking system, I don't expect to use the keypad very often. Plus, when my automation system locks at night, I hear a comforting noise as the lock spins into place. It has a DIP switch to set features like the status LED and keypad beep. The lock can be re-keyed to match other Kwikset locks. It can hold 30 lock codes, which is far more than we'll ever need, and the owner can set a master code to prevent others from adding/removing codes. Stated battery life is excellent: 1+ years on a set of 4 AAs, if locked or unlocked 10x per day. (I doubt that we will average more than half that rate on most days.) We'll see if that holds up over time.

Great Electronic Lock
We now have three of these in our house. We bought them to work with our Homeseer home automation system and this lock works perfectly with it. The codes work great for when we forget a key. Using the home automation, we can program them to automatically lock at a certain time at night (we have children who sometimes forget to lock the doors). Plus being able to rekey it at any time without a locksmith is great too (we move every 4 to 5 years).
