Quick Review and A Tip For "Bricked" Lenses
REVIEW Not too much to say, as it's a very simple, straightforward product. Works exactly the same as the Sigma Lens Dock. The lens clicks in just like it does on the camera body. You can update firmware with it on all compatible lenses, along with autofocus fine tuning if your lens is slightly front/back focusing, and manual focus ring speed. Some lenses with custom switches or buttons allow you to modify those as well. Some newer lenses even allow autofocus fine tuning at multiple distances, exceeding most DSLRs, and matching what Sigma has available for their lenses. In general, this usually isn't needed on mirrorless, though, as mirrorless does not have the same kind of focus issues DSLRs had. Something to note is that some lenses do come autofocus tuned from the factory, not always perfectly. My 18/2.8 was set at -2 from the factory, but is sharper under the focus point when zeroed out. My 35/2.8 was at -3, but seems to focus fine like that. The matching software, Samyang Lens Manager, has a clean and simple layout that's easy to use, and only lags right in the beginning when connecting a lens. Otherwise, no complaints. Here's how to use it: FIRMWARE UIPDATE PROCEDURE 1. Attach the Lens Station to USB, then to the lens 2. Open the Lens Manager software 3. Click the Lens Conn. button on the right The Lens Station will connect to the Lens Manager software. Usually, the software will identify if your firmware is out of date and simplify the update process to a series of OK buttons. But if it doesn't, here are the next steps: 4. Click the Firmware Update icon 5. Click on Download Link on the bottom 6. Find your lens' firmware and download it, remembering the filename and location 7. Click on Load Lens F/W File, find the firmware you just downloaded and open it 8. Click on Update and follow the on-screen prompts And you're done! It'll take a little while to upload the firmware file, but you'll be notified when it's done. Finally, go back to Lens Connection icon and press the Disconnect button to disconnect the lens. You can attach another lens at this point and update its firmware starting with step 3, or close the software. BRICKED LENSES What sometimes happens is, while writing the firmware to the lens, the software or your computer's hardware will drop the connection. When this happens, the new firmware isn't completely written, and the lens won't work properly or at all when attached the camera. Most of the time, the lens will not reconnect to the software, either. Bricked! But don't panic! >>>>>>>>>>>>> THE SOLUTION (for 95% of cases, at least...) <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Seems like Samyang knew this might occur, so they allow you to update a lens' firmware without the software knowing what specific lens is attached. Do the normal steps 1 and 2 to attach the lens and start the software. But skip step 3. Instead, continue with step 4 through 8. The software should allow you to upload the firmware to the lens in a normal fashion despite not knowing which lens it is. This should return your lens to normal, along with upgrading the firmware at the same time. IMPORTANT: make sure you choose the right firmware from Samyang's Firmware download page. It's probably not terrible if you load the wrong one into the lens, as things seem recoverable even if incomplete/damaged firmware is present, but why take a chance. Hope this helps!

Proprietary but works
No one really wants to buy something extra, that’s proprietary, that makes your lens functional. But here we are you and me. Buying it anyway. It works as intended. Interesting idea, weird execution.

Make sure you do things in order!
I bought this lens station out of necessity since I have a couple of Rokinon lenses. It does its job well, but you might have some trouble with it when you first start until you get used to it. Here’s what I mean: there’s a green light at the bottom that turns on when the lens is successfully connected to the computer. However, the software that goes with the station isn’t exactly the most intuitive (and I’m a software professional). If you’re using a Mac like I was, you’ll notice that when you put your lens into the station and the station is plugged in, the light doesn’t turn on. That’s because you’re not finished yet. If you click the connect button in the software, nothing happens—you’ll get a message stating to place your lens in the station. That’s because you have to manually choose the device on the computer you’re plugged into (in this case, USB, even though it appears to be chosen already—that was my hangup), then you should be able to connect and do what you need to do. After that, download the firmware you need (then flash it to the lens) or make any changes to the function buttons and autofocus sensitivity, and you should be good to go. Ultimately, I hope Samyang starts to build a USB connection into their lenses like Viltrox does or allow you to update the lens via the camera like Sony does, but until then, you’ll have to go this route. It’s not very expensive, but it is a little bit of a nuisance.

Must have if you own a Samyang lens
Bite the bullet. Just eat the $60 investment and know that your Samyang lens is going to work perfectly once you go through the quick, easy process of updating the firmware. It’s apparent that the engineers at Samyang wanted this device to be simple and intuitive for anyone to be able to use.

Works fine.
My lens was already rhe latest version so I didn't need to update it. That being said, I downloaded the lens program and checked anyway. I will be buying more samyang lenses so I'm going to need it eventually.

If it "bricks" your lens, go to the firmware website, download the firmware and manually update it
Worked fine on most of my lenses, but bricked 2 of them. Followed the instructions, the first one i thought was just because it was an old rokinon lens and i was willing to brick it. said it disconnected mid update, but it also bricked my newest samyang the 135mm F1.8 in the exact same way. Cant manually focus or change aperture on either lens and most of my cameras wont even fully 'boot' if they're connected. Wanted to update the firmware because my newer cameras would rapidly focus hunt with the new camera firmware unless i unplug the SD cards and plug them back in while the camera is powered on(have to do this every time the camera is powered on) As a reminder, it is reccomended to always use either a UPS or a laptop with the cable directly plugged into your computer rather than a hub, hubs often shortly switch off or switch between ports, normally fine for transfering files but not good for BIOS updates for the computer, nor firmware updates for connected devices. Now that i've suitably disturbed you, there is a somewhat nerve racking fix, download the firmware for your lens, try the "lens connect" once and wait for it to fail, then go over to update, select 'load firmware" and select the HEX extracted from the ZIP, then click update. Shut down the lens update software and disconnect the update puck before trying another lens. This may take SEVERAL tries but i was able to recover both lenses, even the rokinon(of note i had to grab the file the updater downloaded automatically on the first attempt, the one i downloaded said it couldnt be used/wasnt the latest version)

La acepto pero no me gusta.
Funciona bien, pero ojalá no fuera necesario comprarla. Además es una tristeza que use cable micro usb.

Works perfectly - a must have for Samyang lens owners
It totally sucks that we have to buy this in the first place, but whatever, we saved lots of money by purchasing a Samyang lens to begin with. It just worked flawlessly updating my Samyang 35mm F1.8 Sony e-mount lens on my 16-inch, 2021 MacBook Pro running MacOS 14.4.
