Leash allows independance but safety for crowded areas.
We bought two of these to use for our trip to disney. They worked great in different ways. First, my 5 yr old used it around her wrist like a bracelet and would always be quick to hand me the other end if I let go. She loved being able to walk 3 ft from me but still be attached. And when she occasionally threw a fit or wanted to go somewhere without us, the leash stopped her. Second, we used it around the chest of our almost 2 yr old. He didn't like sitting in the stroller the whole time so when he was able to get down and walk, he had a harness. We could walk behind him with the leash fastened around his chest. Some reviewers said their child was able to undo it and slip it off, and I was worried about that before I got it. Although you can put it on a few different ways to avoid this. You can fasten it around their chest under their armpits with the fastener in the back. Or you can put it around their wrist and then pin a safety pin on one side of the fastner so it cannot be loosened. This product worked for us, it is a simple leash with about a 3 ft lead on it.

I've never been a fan of "Kid Leashes" but was super concerned about this trip
So I purchased this before taking my toddler cousin to a water park, as well as a few other places during a vacation. She is one of those kids who disappears if she leaves your sight for a second. I've never been a fan of "Kid Leashes" but was super concerned about this trip, and seeing as we were going to a water park, I was glad to find this instead of one of the backpack/harness setups. When I saw my cousin, I told her I got us a "friendship bracelet," and that we both needed to keep it on to stay together. She LOVED the idea! She actually would make me wear my end with her at the hotel and in the car! This product works really well too, the end that slips over the child's hand is adjustable, it has a plastic piece that loosens/tightens with ease and doesn't get too tight on their little wrists. I was able to keep my cousin wearing it through almost the whole vacation, until someone mentioned, "Good idea, putting your kid on a leash!" She had had it after that. So, altogether, the product itself is awesome. The usefulness of it may depend on who you're using it for.

Learning to stay close
I have a 23 mth old boy and a 3 mth old baby girl. My son wants to be a big boy and walk instead of sitting in the stroller and my lil girl can be fussy a bit. My son is still learning how to stay close when he's out and about and this added a bit of comfort knowing if for some reason my attention gets diverted for a moment, he's still safe. We went to a crowded area the other day and it worked wonders. He seems like he doesn't mind wearing it. He doesn't try to pull it off, but we don't wear if for an extended period of time. I loop it around his wrist and other side on my wrist. I feel it's a great alternative to a harness. He can feel a little in control seeing mommy attached the same way & can see how far and where he can go. Can easily attach to a small backpack you may already own or a backpack that doesn't have a strap already. Small and easy to pack up in the diaper bag as well when not in use too. Highly recommended.

Good for the price !
Worked well, I used at the mall for my 4 year old granddaughter, she thought it was a cool bracelet. Gave just enough length for her still to feel like she could move about without restriction.

Used at Disney World - worked great
This thing is great. It's very basic. The leash part is only about 3 feet long, so you're not feeling like you could trip people if you let your child roam. The part that goes on the child is sort of a slip knot. My 2.5 year old was able to figure out how to get his wrist out, but it took awhile and he had to be sitting to do it. It was fairly comfortable and it certainly was no where near as hot as wearing one of the backpack harnesses would be. He has one, but when we were testing it out before our trip, he kept complaining about how hot it was and that he felt stuck in it. This is just a piece of material on the wrist. If I suggested one thing to change, I would say make the material that is wrapped around the child's wrist smoother, maybe cover it in cotton. We could leave this on him when he sat in the stroller. He felt like he was the one leading me around more than anything. We used it mainly as a backup. I still held his hand, but if his arm got tired or he slipped out of my hand, we had this to fall back on. So glad we used it!

Needs a better clasp
A month or so ago, my husband convinced me to take my 2.5 year old for a walk without his stroller. This is the first time I attempted doing so other than at the zoo, where he really can't get into any trouble. Sure enough, he took off booking down the block and quickly rounded the corner. This tether does work, but he can loosen the attachment and wriggle his way out of it. I was picture it as a snap closure like you would have on a life jacket. It's actually the type of closure that you would use to tighten a strap. It does not snap closed. It works in short intervals but I would prefer something that my little guy could actually not get out of. Also, as we were walking round town with it, everyone that passed me commented on how I was walking my child like a dog (even though we were holding hands, which I thought would make it less conspicuous.

Safety + Freedom = Big A+ for this product
I was going through airport security, following TSA instructions which required me to take not only take my 14 month old from her stroller, but also required me to take my hands off her. She immediately ran off. The TSA wasn't about to help, but a very nice sheriff's deputy who was nearby ran after her and grabbed her for me. That's when I knew that a child leash is not only a convenience, but a safety measure. Furthermore, it gives my daughter more freedom. If she did not have this on, she would be stuck in the shopping cart or stroller to prevent her from running off. I have tried the kind that wraps around the child's torso, but I found that my daughter tends to fall down whenever we use that one. With this kind that wraps around the wrist, it's more like you are holding the child's hand. This also makes it less leash-like than the kind that attaches at the child's back, if judgmental naysayers are of concern to you (a lot of people are appalled by child leashes). It is convenient to have a couple of these. I like to keep one in my purse and have an extra in the car just in case.

Don't bother!
I loved the ones we had when my niece was little so when she had a child I searched for them when the baby became a toddler. This was a joke. The strap is so short you might as well be holding the child's hand. The one's we had years ago had enough length for the child to walk a bit away from the parent, giving a semblance of independence, while keeping the child within eye sight. There is no give in the strap what so ever so if the child falls, which toddlers love to do, it's going to pull horribly on either the child or adult's arm possibly causing some damage.

This is AMAZING! I never thought I’d be this kind of ...
This is AMAZING! I never thought I’d be this kind of a parent, but it turns out I am. Two year olds are just too unpredictable and I’m always paranoid when I take him out for short walks without the stroller...little kids can slip from your grip in two seconds and since we live in a very busy city, I shiver at the thought of what might happened if he ran into the street. So this product is the perfect solution. He got used to it by the third time we put it on and it’s much less ‘dog like’ than the harness type tethers. You can hold hands like normal and just have this as a safety. LOVE IT. Our nanny is not allowed to take our son out on walks anymore without this.

10/10 Perfectly made, NO embarrassing leash effect.
This is great, I like it because it was like holding their hand instead of the leash effect that I find embarrassing. I looped it into my belt loop so I had both hands free to carry my child or set her down depending on what worked for us. Used it at Disneyland and it worked perfect. I recommend this product for keeping little ones nearby!
