Different artists and a variety of song. Take you down memory lane.

If you're looking for a definitive Bacharach set, get the great 3-CD box "The Look Of Love" on Rhino. This collection doesn't include all the familiar classics, but how can you go wrong with versions of songs by such giants as Barbara Streisand, Elvis or Aretha. Yes, I'd rather hear Alfie sung by Cilla Black rather than Babs, or Chuck Jackson's Any Day Now rather than Elvis, but both are still great takes on the Bacharach/David songbook. Of the 40 tracks on this 2-Cd set, 15 appear on "The Look of Love" set, but who's going to complain if you've got 2 copies of The Stylistics You'll Never Get to Heaven, Burt's wonderful instrumental Nikki or Rick Nelson's Take a Broken Heart. Most people will be looking for the classic versions, so know in advance Dionne Warwick and BJ. Thomas only appear once on this set and there's nothing by other great Bacharach interpreters such as Lou Johnson or Chuck Jackson. In some respects this is a curious compilation. I'm guessing Universal dug mostly from their own massive archives, but cheaped out when it came to paying others for the rights to some of the classic versions. it's just a guess, i could be totally off base on that. But you know what? They're Bacharach and David (many Sager and others too), so how can it be bad? Well it can't. Burt's songs are complicated and ear friendly at the same time putting him in the same class as Ravel, Gershwin, Jobim, Lennon/McCartney which puts him in the highest order of the greatest composers ever. Burt always strives for perfection and frankly every song on this and other Burt compilations are just that, perfect.

Oh boy, where to start...heavenly music, stunning vocals...you might be surprised just how prolific Burt was as a lyricist. Hal David wrote the music but Bacharach wrote the words that touched our hearts for decades. Great fun to hear various interpretations of the songs. If you want to invest on just one CD of Bacharach music, this is it!

You just can't go wrong with the music of Burt Bacharach. This cd is a classic for all the tunes he has written for various artist who share their voices with many hit song over the years. I listen to it a lot & is probably one of my all time favorites.

Ok...a number of the selections are not by the original artists but the songs are still very good. I especially like Elvis Presleys' ANY DAY NOW and Brook Bentons' A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME. This album is about the music written by this man, not the original artists.

The music on disc 1 is great . The music on Disc 2 may be great but I will never know, it will not play in any of my CD players. If I want to find out how great it is I will have to go to the hassle of returning the set.
