Fit for a king... and his crown... and perhaps a few other things in addition...
When I read reviews that said this hat was big, I thought to myself "I need a big hat. I have a large dome and most hats fit too snug so, yeah, I need this big hat." What I did not count on was being able to fit not just my head, but also a small child (or any variety of small to medium sized animals), within the warm confines of this hat. So, yeah, it is big! It is also very warm, so I'm happy with it. And, should I ever need to hide something and keep it warm at the same time, you know where it's going!

Easily the best stocking hat I've ever owned
I didn't expect that this stocking hat would have such a large fold, and in fact, I generally wouldn't get a hat with such a large fold, but I am so glad I did! The extra protection and warmth that it gives your ears is amazing.I don't know why a lot of stocking hats are itchy (why would anyone want an itchy hat?), but I'm happy to report that this one is not. Also, I read some review before buying this hat about the size. If anything, I think my head is a little bigger than most, although I have close-cut hair, and I can say that I really love the fit. It's snug, but in a good way. Something about the way the fiber is woven together gives it a lot of firm elasticity, which keeps it snug at all times but not too tight .I also love the extra soft lining inside the hat, which is unlike the previous stocking hat I owned that was the same material inside and out. That's just fine, but this extra lining just make this hat all the better. Finally, I think the colors on the hat look better in person. Something about seeing them in the picture here on Amazon almost gave it a 3D-picture affect, but I think it's more appealing in-person. Of course, I look like a Q-tip wearing the thing, but let's face it, these kinds of hats have little to do with fashion and everything to do with function. And when it comes to function, this hat is easily the best stocking hat I've ever owned, and was well worth the money.

Misleading - your ears will get cold
I bought this to keep my whole head including my ears warm, well guess what, the thinsulate only covers about a third of the hat, which covers the top of your head but not your ears.See photo to see how much the thinsulate covers.

A bit big and comfy
Not a fan of how the tag sticks out but it's not so bad if I turn the hat the it's in the back. I thought I had a big head but this is a bit too big for me. Overall it's warm and comfy :)Attached a couple of pics so you guys have an idea of what it looks like on an average-ish head size.

Best winter hat I've ever owned.
Here's the thing...I'm bald. I have an annoyingly round head that tends toward the larger end of the spectrum. So, most hats with any elastic in them tend to work their way off my head as I move around. I live in the Chicago area, so I'm in hats a lot of the time. Consequently, I spend lots of time readjusting whatever hat I'm wearing and being generally annoyed that the bottoms of my ears and the back of my head are freezing.I took a chance on this hat because other reviewers claimed that the fit was big, and the price really couldn't be beat. Though I've only had it a couple weeks, I'm really pleased. It's a snug fit, but there's enough material that I can double it over where I need it, and it stays put. The Thinsulate is a nice bonus. Seems breathable and is very soft, but is also very warm. You end up with something that feels like fleece over the majority of your head, with the acrylic material further down to "grip" if you will. This is not a fashionable slouch beanie or something you can wear inside for very long. Feels durable, with very tight seams. If I can just keep from leaving this somewhere, this will be my go-to whenever it gets brisk outside.

you can carry a watermellon in this thing!
love it, this thing is large enough for 2 heads!! look at the image, the folded up section is about 3" of the hat, even folded up that far, I can still completely cover my head all the way down to my shoulders.Update: so I wanted to clarify some things with this "hat" yes, it is large, too large... People keep telling me it looks funny. HOWEVER, the "large" dimension is the length, not the width of the hat. if you have a large head, it will still be "large" in length, but too small in width. Because of this issue, not even 2 days after I wrote this initial review, the inner seam ripped while I was putting it on. I wasn't sure what happened the first time, I did hear it... The second time the issue occurred, I figured it out. Approximately 50% of the diameter of the inner section (where the thinsulate is located, an area that stops just above my ears, whereas the rest of the hat is just knit) in 2 separate sections, has come completely unstitched. I have sown it back up myself and it is currently holding and has been without issue for over a month. I was disappointed in this and have reduced my rating from 5* to 4* due to this quality issue, which although is partly my fault, it would not have happened if the inside was not so narrow, or if the inside was "stretchy" like the outside section is.Since this issue occurred, I have located my older thinsulate hat (no where near as long, but I discovered that it is the exact same width and also only has a little "beanie" section at the top with the actual thinsulate material. So, no change in the design as far as that goes, in over 10 years.
