James Neligan Series 4 String Acoustic Guitar, Right, Cask Coal, Full PUNCHCOAL

I recently got into cigarbox style guitars, and I wanted one with a resonator. I’ve been looking around here and there, but didn’t come up with much. I stumbled on this, and it looked great!! I was thinking there must be something wrong with it. There wasn’t. This little guitar is the real deal. It’s got all the qualities of a full sized resonator, but smaller, and with more of a compressed sound. I’m imagining that it was built for slide guitar, and it has a higher action. I tightened the truss rod just a little bit to get the action slightly closer. I’m playing slide, so I don’t want it too close. That was it!! I didn’t have to mess around with intonation, as it is spot on. I thought I was going to have to file the fret edges, as a lot of budget guitars have sharp fret wire hanging over the edges of the neck. I didn’t even have to. It’s as smooth as it comes. It sounds great electrically as well, although I’ve predominantly been playing it acoustic. For the money I payed, this is one of the best bargains I’ve come across, as far as guitars go. I expected to throw it in the corner and not play it, but that isn’t the case. I haven’t put it down since I got it!! If you’re interested in a cigarbox style guitar, I’d strongly recommend this one.

Sounded ok, but the quality control is poor - there were many bits on the fret edges which made it not much fun playing slide, and there was a hairline crack and some delimitation on the neck. For the price, there are better quality options out there.

Great tone and playability out of the box. The action is high, but that's a preference for some. The height is determined by bridge height as it should be, and is therefore adjustable. Pickup poles are all the way down, and may need balance adjustment. It sings though. Good acoustic tone for a box. Excellent construction. Decent gig bag.
