EXCELLENT!!! YES... RINGER VOLUME CAN BE ADJUSTED!!!!
I am very pleased with this phone system. It has a large easy to read screen and large buttons. I love the photo speed dial and call blocker functions. It is very easy to set up. Out of the box the ringer is very loud, but IT CAN be adjusted to a lower level by going through the prompts on the cordless handset. It does have a built in answering machine as well. Phone calls sound crystal clear and you can even boost the sound while on a call or slow down the caller's message while listening to your voice messages on the answering machine which is excellent especially while trying to jot down any notes or phone numbers that the caller leaves. You can even program in reminders for yourself. I have the corded/cordless system and also purchased the extra photo handset extention which works flawlessly with this system. I may get the pendant in the future. I have Voip over service from vonage and all features work great with it including call blocker. I highly recommend this phone system for not just the senior and disabled community, but for anyone who wants an easy to use phone system with large display and excellent sound quality. Also, I was not offered any free incentives for leaving this review. I paid full price for it and I would do it do it again in a heartbeat .💗 💗💗

Elderly Parent and Safety
This phone rings louds. Since mom is hard of hearing and has dementia we needed to get her something that she should hear n see the flashing red light that also screened out those annoying scammers. I was able to program the phone to where only 8 people are on her allowed call list and the scammer calls are blocked. The allowed list feature is really cool because it announces who is calling so mom knows that ie "Maryann" is calling. The phone programming did take some understanding to get to the allowed list but once I git it figured out - LOVE IT!

Purchased for Parent Who Recently Had a Stroke
Update (3/17/24): Some items that I have noticed/learned since purchasing this phone for my mom: 1. You may want to disable the Call Block button on the corded phone base. On a few occasions, my mom has pressed the Call Block button which has blocked my number after having called her. You can disable the Call Block function using the cordless phone. 2. I've found that my mom will turn off the answering machine function because it has the red on/off button next to it. So you may need to check your parent's phone to make sure that they haven't turned off the function. 3. The phone will ring even if the corded handset is off of the base unit. You just need to make sure that you press the 'hang up' button to answer a call in this scenario. I noticed that some have noted that they are having sound issues with their units. We haven't encountered this issue (yet) and have had the unit for just under 2 years. ------- My mother recently had a stroke and we have found that this phone system has been helpful overall. Some pros and cons include: Pros: *The corded phone is best because there is no way that she will misplace the phone. *The phone has small slots where you can put a picture of a relative for easy phone calls. Instead of pictures, we put the names of individuals in each slot. *The corded phone is very loud (ringing) and for hearing. Cons: *The cordless phone can be confusing for her - too many buttons. The M1, M2, M3.... buttons (associated with stored numbers) are not helpful. A stroke victim with memory issues is not going to be able to tie M1 to the first number stored into memory on the corded phone. *The cordless phone sound quality is only okay. We ended up purchasing the accessory cordless phone that has less buttons and has slots for pictures (once again, we put in names into each slot). It's working well for her. Overall, I would say that the phone is worth purchasing. I initially purchased a different cordless phone with all of the bells/whistles. However, I quickly learned that it was too confusing for my mom. Believe me, you need to get a very simple phone to use. The corded phone is what my mom uses the most. (Note: You may want to purchase a longer cord for the handset/base unit - just so that your relative can sit comfortably to talk on the phone.) Good luck to anyone working with a relative who has had a stroke and ends up having difficulties using devices. It's definitely a learning experience for me. Hard to believe that my mom actively used an iPhone before her stroke and now finds that using a cell phone is too overwhelming.

Got it to screen spam calls for my mother, seems to work! OOPS.. no it does not work. Don't buy
Smart Call Blocker use to work by inputting allowed numbers in, and blocking all numbers not on the list. Was wonderful for my 97 yr old mother. She would get 10-20 telemarketer calls a day and believe whatever they told her. It worked great until Dec 15, 2022. UPDATE. As of December 15 the Smart Call Blocker function just stopped working and would not allow the approved numbers through. Started treating all numbers as "unknown" and thus blocked ALL calls. I could turn the function off and it would work as any other phone. Could not find any help at all on this. Called Customer Support and talked to a non-English speaking individual who did not seem to grasp the issue. This is the disturbing part... The customer service rep then called the phone, they did not explain why, which I initially thought fixed the issue. I thought, how scary they can mess with the phone by a phone call. Turns out that this person, remotely, disabled the entire Smart Call Blocker system on the phone. Now I cannot block ANY number. My paranoid mind tells me that the spam callers did not like this system and got Vtec to set the phone to block all calls forcing you to turn off the Blocker. IMO I believe this was intentional, done remotely, and probably is the same for any other phone with a similar system. BTW I check to make sure no changes were made with caller ID for the telephone line vendor, also checked with other phones on the do not block list, all blocked. Not any more though. Everyone can now call and my poor 97 yr old mother has to deal with the $#@%^ 3rd time with tech and got the runaround on the smart call blocker. I am convinced that they got slapped by telemarketers to change their block system. Tech support would just ignore my description of the problem and proudly announce that it’s fixed, you can now add callers to the blocked list, which is not how it worked before. My mother has a hard time with the 5 button programmable tv remote, plus the telemarketers are always changing their numbers.

Great phone for Hard-of-hearing seniors
I bought the VTech SN5147 phone for my great-aunt, and it's been fantastic for her, mainly because she's hard of hearing. Easy to Use: The big buttons and clear screen are helpful. She finds it easy to dial and see who's calling. Loud and Clear: The sound is amplified so she can hear everything better. No more asking people to repeat themselves! Corded and Cordless: It's great that it has a corded phone and a cordless handset. Answering Machine: The answering machine is easy for her, so she never misses a message. Overall: This phone is a big help for seniors with trouble hearing. It's made a massive difference for my great-aunt. I have yet to put pictures on the speed dial buttons, and I am sure she would be delighted to use the buttons after setup.

A Good Start
The Good: Large buttons, volume control. Cordless handset with the ability to add more handsets and other wireless accessories like emergency call buttons. Quick dial buttons with ability to stick pictures on them. The concept for a phone for seniors is in there. The Bad: Not as easy as it should be for seniors to use, but is better than others. Programming is not intuitive for the non tech saavy. button/light placement needs rework, the blinky light letting you know you have messages should be next to or above the play button, not located elsewhere on the phone face making people think that they should be pressing a different button to play messages. Needs more quick dial buttons. The Ugly: OMG! That voice. that voice is so hard to understand. My 87 year old mother, whom I got the phone for, cannot understand the female voice that is programmed into the unit. Even I have a hard time understanding, and it just gets worse when you turn up the volume. For one thing, there needs to be a selection of different voices as not everyone has the same frequency range for hearing. In addition to the female voice, there needs to be a male, and several selections of female and male. volume is not enough, also needs adjustments to control other aspects of the voice like tone. For another thing, the programming for the pronunciation NEEDS A LOT OF WORK. Some words are fine, but many others are not even close, and I'm talking about common words. I do not expect the phone to be able to pronounce oddball words like medical terminology. Also needs a lot of work with correct pronunciation of the letters of the alphabet. It took me, with decent hearing, forever to figure out that whenever the phone was saying "avoodavay", it was actually saying "double u" and "aye" for the state abbreviation "WA". Overall, the concept for a phone for seniors to be able to use is there, BUT needs a lot of work before going into production. Oops, too late, already in production.

Great phone for Mom in Assisted Living! Follow this advice to set up photos!
We're moving my Mom into Assisted Living, and wanted to get her a phone system that would be super easy to use! Though the full set up took me at least an hour, and would have been a little complicated for a 90 yr old to do (setting up photo tiles and saving #'s to her phonebook)... I'm sure we'll all benefit from the results when Mom is able to easily call her family and best friends. The picture size needed is: HEIGHT: 19.4mm (.763 inches) WIDTH: 21.2mm (.834 inches) I created a word document and placed all 8 images I wanted to print on it, and then adjusted each image size via Word's image editing tool "size and position" to the inch percentages that I listed above. Then, all I had to do is print out the one piece of paper, cut each of the images out, and easily customized the phone I just bought for my Mom!

Loud with many features
This phone has many features for seniors and the volume gets extremely loud. A senior might need some help setting it up though. Some features are also a little bit difficult to use for a senior. For example, there are many steps involved to look at the missed calls list. Voicemail is easy to use though once set up.

Good sound.
This phone has some great features - the picture quick dial option and the audio assist. I bought it for my 86 year old mom and although she liked it she found the cordless portion much too large for her hand and had trouble adjusting the audio assist on it. She made me return it even though the family all thought it was great! I would suggest if buying for a senior family member buy it earlier on in the aging!!

work's great
It works great for anyone, even for a person that is next to blind. The photo dial is a great idea. We put letters in the squares instead of photos. There are many steps to the set up. For those that have good eye sight the Phone book is and asset. If you put a name in the phonebook you must also add it to the except list and or the star list. The blog number is also an asset. Read all instruction and proceed as described.
