Power Level Over 9000
Alright, so I took a scoop of this pre-workout before my back and shoulders session. Immediately, I felt a Saiyan-like surge of energy. My hair instantly grew another foot, turned bleach blonde and formed spikes. I took off like a rocket, left a human sized hole in multiple walls at work and crashed through Planet Fitness. Naturally, this set off the lunk alarm, which I then proceeded to rip off the wall, throw through the roof, and incinerate it in a blast of energy bright enough to be seen from Neptune. I then did shoulder presses with a pretty girl in each hand. Just kidding, that didn't really happen. In all seriousness though, I had a fantastic first experience with this pre-workout. Let me detail what ACTUALLY happened. I took a scoop half an hour before my back and shoulders workout. Right off the bat, this stuff is delicious. I don't know how Mr. Matthews accomplished this with all natural flavoring but it's terrific. It's a tart fruity flavor (it is fruit punch after all) but it's fantastic. Heck, my previous pre was Cellucor C4 Watermelon and this beats that out even with all the synthetic malarkey. I could see how maybe the taste would diminish if it was watered down too much, be sure to watch how much water you put in since I think I got it just right. Goldilocks'd it, if you will. Yeah that was terrible I know don't judge me. It was only a couple minutes into my workout that the energy hit. It wasn't a dirty, jittery energy. It was a clean sensation that wakes you up and gets you ready to tackle any workout you have set. I can't quite explain it any other way than it just gives you an unparalleled mental clarity and focus. I busted through every rep at every weight I had planned out; that hasn't happened in a long time. This stuff is just nuts. No pre-workout has ever given me an energy rush like this. The best part? I mean really the best part? There's no bull with this pre-workout; read the label. It lists EVERY ingredient, and EXACTLY how much of it is in there. My fellow lifters, this is a rarity. Many pre-workouts try to hide behind a proprietary blend. Yeah they have the ingredients, but they have some awkward total of how much stuff is in there without breaking down just how much of each "stuff" is truly present. Mike is setting a new precedent for supplements by, hold on to your pants, giving it to you straight. He has nothing to hide with this supplement and with good reason. He doesn't have to. The only downside I could possibly think of is the price but you know what? I don't care. It's worth it. Plus two, Mike has to turn in a profit on his product. Honestly, I don't even mind coughing up the cash for this kind of product because you're not paying for JUST the product you're paying for quality and honesty; you can't put a price on either of those. I would compare this pre-workout to buying a Lotus versus, say, a Dodge Ram. Yeah the Ram costs less and has a big V8 and you might be getting more "vehicle" for the money; while yeah the Lotus costs more, you don't get as big of a vehicle, but it's a real driving machine and a feat of automotive engineering. This pre-workout is the Lotus. I can't recommend this pre-workout enough. I will be keen to try the other Legion supplements. Mike on the chance you read this, I got Bigger Leaner Stronger and The Shredded Chef on the way. You have yourself another fan.

Smooth Operator
First, I need to give Amazon a "shout out"...amazing customer service and company. Orders always received prior to "actual" delivery date. Had to return one product for refund...no problem. On another product I requested a "price match", Amazon helped me to secure the lower price (and refunded the difference)...no problem. As big as a company they are, Amazon seems to always go out of their way to help customers...that's a true "marker" of a great company! The review: I literally OCD'd researching PWO supplements. I looked at everything...ingredients, reviews, price...jumping from one website to the next...it was an exhaustive search! Pulse seemed to hit all the key notes - No Proprietary Blends, No Artificial Sweetners, No Fillers...just six main-ingredients with WHOPPING dosages - 3 to 4 times that of it's leading competitor! A little background on me...I am 51 years old, in good shape, workout 3-4 times a week and hit the lifecycle everyday. I've been taking PWO supps for years...as I've gotten older I found that I needed an extra "boost" to push through my workouts. I've tried everything under the sun, the latest was C-4... "ok" product for the money but could never finish my workout and I would literally "crash" within an hour of taking it. That's when my search began for a new PWO that led me to Pulse. Like many reviews, upon receiving Pulse, I discovered it to be clumpy; in fact, it was one solid mass...nothing that a fork couldn't handle...and it did not diminish it's effect. However, before I get to that, I would like to address Mike Matthews repeated response to this issue - that Amazon was storing this product in a 140+ wherehouse. First, if this were true the FDA would have a field day with this news...this product and others like it are PERISHABLE goods (i.e., they are consumed and have expiration dates) ; powered perishables should be stored in a cool, dry place; storing products like this in a warm environment will only last a fraction of the time. More importantly, the hottest internal temperature the human body can tolerate is around 108 degrees. If the temperature is at or near 108 degrees Fahrenheit for long, cells will not function properly at this temperature and multiple organ failure will occur; this organ damage is the cause of death from heat exposure. Now imagine an Amazon employee working in 140+ degree temperatures...you get the picture (yes, I "googled" this information). I highly doubt Amazon would store perishable or let employees work under these conditions. ALSO, if this were the case, I have not read one review from other "like" products that had this clumping problem...and believe me I read them all! So Mike, "C'MON man", your words are libelous, you are biting the hand that feeds you...as a "young" company who needs a large distributor, such as Amazon, to help you grow your business, you should choose your words more carefully. No, I am not an employee of Amazon, nor do I have friends or family associated with Amazon. All right, I got a little off track there...sorry. The product itself is AMAZING (clumps or no clumps). The recommended dosage of two sccops is a little over the top for me (I'm 5'10, 165lbs.); what I found works for me is one heaping scoop (even at one scoop the dosage is twice that of it's leading competitor!); also, I found that adding 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 grams) of ON Micronized Creatine Powder makes all the difference in the world. My workouts are amazing; I can easily go at the weights for hours (did I mention that I am 51)...seriosuly. Even more amazing (to me) is that I feel stronger after an hour of hitting the weights...my strength intensifies the longer I workout! And the focus is AMAZING as well...I workout at home, and believe me, there are a lot of distractions (tv, computer, phone, etc. - you get the picture); I am able to power through my workouts now without turning on the TV...LOL! Also important...there is NO crash, NO jitters...this is just a "smooth operator" (that's my 80's Sade flashback for those old enough to remember!). And the MIXABILITY is AWESOME as well...it literally disovles the second it hits the water; almost no need to stir. I finish my workout with another 1/2 teaspoon of ON Creatine, one teaspoon of Glutamine Powder (5 grams) and ON Gold Standard Whey Protein...no DOMS the following day and ready to hit the weights again! At one scoop per serving the cost is reasonable; at two scoops it simply is cost-prohibitive; if I had to take two scoops I would probably be searching for another product. With that said, Mike has done an outstanding job on the PWO product. Mike, I hope you are reading this; this next paragragh is a WARNING!! What I've seen in the past, is companies (such as yours) who have experienced great success with a product decide to change the formula - a NEW and IMPROVED FORMULA - which, in most cases, means a less potent (inferior) product. These companies abandon their loyal "followers" for greater profits...I've seen it time and time again. Please dont's fall into this "trap", stick to what works and you will have loyal "followers" for life!

Solid pre-workout
I'm a big fan of Legion products and their overall mission. You can see all the ingredients below, although Mike always does a great job of breaking everything down. So why not a perfect five stars? Well, it's expensive...I know you get what you pay for..but still (especially at only 21 servings). I also wish there was a bigger energy boost. I find it to be a little lacking. Part of that is probably my fault as I should regularly take a break from all stimulants, but I find that hard to do because of the immediate headaches and withdrawal symptoms from caffeine. Overall, you can't go wrong with trying this at least once. L-Citrulline Malate Citrulline is a precursor to the amino acid Arginine, which is a precursor to Nitric Oxide (NO). As demonstrated in a 2007 study, supplemental Citrulline is significantly more effective at raising plasma Arginine than supplemental Arginine itself, and while results with Arginine are mixed, Citrulline has demonstrated clear efficacy as a performance enhancer. The problem with supplemental Arginine is that it is metabolized in the intestines and liver into other substances such as Ornithine and Urea. The intestines and liver contain relatively high levels of Arginase, the enzyme that converts Arginine to Ornithine and Urea. As a result, very little goes on to be involved with the synthesis of NO because it is being diverted for other purposes. Citrulline, on the other hand, is able to bypass the liver and is metabolized into Arginine elsewhere, where not as much Arginase is present. Thus, more of the Arginine is able to go on to convert into Nitric Oxide. A 2002 study, published in the “British Journal of Sports Medicine” found that Citrulline Malate supplementation (6g/day for 15 days) significantly increased ATP production during exercise in healthy adult males. A 2008 study from “The Journal of Strength & Conditioning” found that 8g of Citrulline Malate was able to progressively increase the amount of reps performed later in the workout (by as much as 52%) and significantly reduced muscle soreness. A 2009 study, published in the “Journal of Free Radical Research”, found that 6 grams of Citrulline Malate given to male cyclists before a race increased “plasma Arginine availability for NO synthesis and PMNs priming for oxidative burst without oxidative damage”. A 2011 study, the subjects of which were rats, found that supplemental Citrulline increased muscular contraction efficiency (less ATP was required for the same amount of power), in-line with the findings of the above-mentioned human study. Citrulline is generally considered to be most effective at doses of 6-8g, though it is rare to find that much in pre-workout supplements (it gets kind of expensive). Pulse contains a highly effective 8 gram dose of Citrulline (as Citrulline Malate) per serving, consistent with the dose used in the above mentioned 2008 study and beyond that used in most other studies. Beta-Alanine Beta-Alanine is a precursor to the amino acid Carnosine, which functions as a lactic acid buffer capable of reducing fatigue in the working muscle. Though it takes time to accumulate in muscle tissue, Beta-Alanine supplementation, for at least two weeks, is highly effective at increasing muscular Carnosine concentration. One study in particular that measured the Carnosine levels of sprinters found that individuals with higher muscular Carnosine levels exhibited higher power output in the latter half of a 30m sprint (because they had less lactic acid build-up). Multiple studies have confirmed that Beta Alanine supplementation increases muscular Carnosine in a dose dependent manner. In particular, a 2012 study published in “Amino Acids” found that subjects who consumed 1.6 or 3.2 grams of Beta Alanine daily experienced significant increases in muscle carnosine in as little as two weeks, with the higher dose achieving a higher concentration of Carnosine. The doses used in this study, 1.6 and 3.2g, are the most common doses seen in supplements. A 2008 study, published in the International Journal of Sports Medicine, noted improvements in power in resistance trained males using 4.8g daily for 30 days. This same 4.8 gram dose was also shown to increase muscular endurance in sprinters in a 2007 study from the “Journal of Applied Physiology”. Generally speaking, the highest dose used in most pre-workouts is 3.2g because that is, after all, an effective dose. However, Legion has gone the extra mile with Pulse by including 4.8 grams of Beta-Alanine per serving, in-line with the highest, most effective dose used in studies, and more than we’ve ever seen in any pre-workout. Betaine Anhydrous Betaine (also known as Trimethylglycine) is the amino acid Glycine with the addition of three methyl groups attached. Betaine is alleged to increase power output and strength by increasing cellular swelling, a phenomenon well established with Creatine supplementation, which can drastically reduce the damaging effect of outside stimuli (such as exercise) on the working muscle. So far, Betaine has been investigated in several human studies, and has had some pretty encouraging results in most. A 2009 study, published in the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition”, found that 2.5g Betaine (split into two 1.25mg doses) over the course of 15 days increased muscle endurance during squats and appeared to improve the quality of each rep (likely because they were easier). A 2010 study, again from the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition”, found that the same supplementation protocol (2.5g daily in two equal doses) effectively increased isometric bench press and squat force as well as bench throw and vertical jump power. A 2011 study, published in “The Journal of Strength & Condition Research” noted improvements in number of bench press repetitions and total volume load with same 2.5g dosing protocol for 14 days. However, another 2011 study from the same journal noted no such improvements in power output or number of reps performed, though there were subjective reports of fatigue reduction. A 2012 study from the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition” noted improvements in cycling sprint power after just one week of supplementation at the standard 2.5g dose. Most recently, a 2013 study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition” noted increases in arm size, bench press work capacity, overall body composition, and a trend toward increased power (but not strength). This was the first study to specifically measure the effects of Betaine supplementation on body composition, so further study is needed to corroborate these findings. Pulse contains the standard dose of Betaine used in the above mentioned studies of 2.5g, a highly effective amount which eliminates the need to take two daily doses. Ornithine Ornithine is an amino acid used alongside Arginine and Citrulline in the Urea Cycle, the process by which Ammonia is metabolized into the harmless substance Urea. Prolonged exercise generally brings about increases in Ammonia, which causes fatigue in the working muscle after enough has built up. As evidenced in a 2010 study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, supplemental Ornithine, at a dose of 100mg/kg, has failed to influence fatigue in short duration exercise. However, a 2008 study from “Nutrition Research” noted a significant reduction in fatigue during prolonged exercise in healthy volunteers who consumed 2g Ornithine daily for 6 days and 6g prior to testing. Unfortunately, because of the structure of this study, it is unclear whether Ornithine requires “build-up time” or if acute supplementation is effective. Either way, it appears Ornithine will only be noticeably effective during prolonged exercise, when Ammonia would usually cause fatigue. Pulse contains 2200mg of L-Ornithine, much more than the average Ornithine-containing pre-workout which may be somewhat synergistic with the hefty dose of Citrulline that Legion has also packed into the Pulse formula. Theanine In a 2008 study, published in “Nutritional Neuroscience”, researchers investigated the cognitive effects of a combination of Theanine and Caffeine compared to Caffeine alone on various measures of cognitive performance. Participants received either 50mg of Caffeine or 50mg of Caffeine and 100mg of Theanine before completing various tasks including word recognition, visual image processing, and attention switching. While Caffeine was able to increase alertness and accuracy during the attention switching tasks, the combination of Caffeine and Theanine was able to improve both performance and speed, while reducing the subjects’ susceptibility to distraction. Another 2008 study from “Biological Psychology” found that, while 150mg of Caffeine increased alertness and improved (decreased) reaction time, adding 250mg of Theanine further improved reaction time, alertness, and decreased the number of headaches reported from Caffeine. A 2010 study, also from “Nutritional Sciences”, found that the combination of 97mg of Theanine combined with 40mg Caffeine significantly improved focus and attention on various cognitive tests, compared to placebo. Another 2010 study, this one published in “Appetite”, noted an improvement in task-switching ability using the same 97mg Theanine/40mg Caffeine combination. Theanine is, in our view, a very under-utilized ingredient in pre-workout supplements these days. Despite a well-established synergistic relationship with Caffeine, supplement companies seem reluctant to include Theanine in effective doses mostly because of cost issues (it is relatively expensive). However, Pulse contains a highly effective 350mg of Theanine to go alongside the 350mg of Caffeine. Caffeine Anhydrous Caffeine is a well-established ergogenic aid, oral consumption of which triggers the release of Catcholamines (Noradrenaline, Dopamine, Adrenaline, etc.), generally inducing a state of increased alertness, focus, and perceived energy. A vast multitude of studies have concluded that Caffeine consumption prior to exercise can favorably impact performance and enhance muscle contractibility. Since habitual Caffeine consumption often leads to tolerance build-up, those seeking to get the most out of their Caffeine-containing pre-workout should limit Caffeine throughout other parts of the day. Pulse contains 350mg of Caffeine which is enough to make even a somewhat Caffeine-tolerant individual feel noticeably more focused and alert. Though 350mg would normally be considered “jitter territory”, the 350mg dose of Theanine present in the Pulse formula may partially (if not completely) reduce the likelihood of the Caffeine causing any negative effects.

Works somewhat but be CAREFUL
This is my first pre-workout I have ever tried... but I think it works good. I am not sure what it is really supposed to do, but it kind of makes me want to go workout more. I get really good pumps too and my muscles appear bigger during my workout. I feel I can work out for longer than usual too. I only use 2/3 of 1 scoop, not 2 like it suggests. You can feel it doing its tingly needle feeling and helps you get good pumps. The jar is much smaller than I had hoped, but I orderd this over others because it is Naturally sweetened, and doesn't have the addiotnal toxic B.S. that most others products have... like Surcalose. I take it back, there is a lot for the money and it goes a long way... but it is expensive. UPDATED on 12-10-2014: So one night I was on the phone, wasn't paying close enough attention and I took too much of this stuff and later on it caused me to FREAK OUT and go into an insane panic attack, which I had never experienced before in my life. I was terrified and I didn't understand what was happening so I called EMS! Since that happened I have stopped taking pre-work outs all together and have been enjoying my work outs much more. When I was using this product (and I also tried another pre-workout) I got great pumps from both, but they caused me to "burn out" much quicker and I would be dead armed/exhausted after a much shorter period of time. More importantly, every time I took this product or the other pre-work out, it made it difficult to breath during certain exercises and also made me VERY anxious... and I hate that feeling since I have never experienced that prior to using this product! Now that I am off the pre-work outs, I have been able to lift for X3 longer and I feel much better overall. I am removing a star and giving it a neutral 3 star review because everybody is different and may react differently.

Best Pre-Workout to Date
First off I'm a big caffeine feign, I drink coffee and take pills all the time, but I always end up crashing after awhile. Pulse is great, I notice the ample amount of energy before and during my workout without getting that overwhelming caffeine headache rush you get after gulping down 2-3 cups of coffee. I have not really noticed the dreadful "crash" and "jitters" you get with other pre-workout supplements I've tried. I used to take N.O.- Xplode, C4, Jack3d (RIP), and Bullnox as pre-workout supplements for a few years now and they are all great, but I would get a high in the middle of a workout with these then all of the sudden crash 3/4 of the way through my workout. I like to consider myself an average person who weight lifter. I go to the gym 3-5 days a week, college student, focusing on gaining strength and (very little) cardio after a workout. Cause c'mon who likes cardio? I've been taking Pulse for a few weeks now and I am definitely noticing I am able to get a few more reps, sets, and exercises done when in the past I would have wanted to leave claiming I was out of energy after a normal workout. I have also noticed my motivation to continue the workout is at a higher level of intensity the entire time and I consistently want to keep doing more and more. I even want to do cardio and that says a lot in itself! It's perfect to take right after that long day of work to get you motivated and energized to go to the gym instead of go home, sit on the couch and binge watch Netflix till you fall asleep. It's also great for those non-morning people, like myself, to help you get going in the morning and get a workout in before work or class after you were up late studying for that exam you swore you wouldn't procrastinate for this time but did anyways, like myself (again). Do NOT take this if you do not plan on working out or doing any sort of strenuous physical activity or you will have so much energy you can't fall asleep and you'll be cleaning your room as if you were on adderall till the early morning. So actually it might help you write that paper you need to finish or just have you go down a rabbit hole on youtube watching conspiracy theories. Just my personal experience/mistake (The illuminate is real). The supplement only uses 6 ingredients versus others who use 10-15 and they claim that with more ingredients the amount tends to get diluted and you are not getting the full nutrients. They also claim it is "Delicious with no artificial sweeteners, flavoring, food dyes, or fillers" (1) and has a bunch of healthy stuff that I have no idea what it means, but sounds good. So that's a plus for those who pay more attention to things than I do and they have all of their research scientifically backed by putting all their research and supporting articles on their website which I will attach at the bottom. Note that each serving is suppose to be 2 scoops (21 servings per container), take 1 - 1.5, that's all you need and will increase the amount of days you can use it before purchasing another one since it is a little pricey. Lastly, I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a change in pace and better quality supplement. It really is the best preworkout supplement I have taken to date. I apologize for the long review, the caffeine rush kicked in and I needed something to do while I'm procrastinating again. I hope this review of my experience helps, and no I did not get paid to promote this but I wish I did though. Hit me up Legion I'm about to graduate and need a job. You can research more about this product at Legion's website: [...]

LEGION COSTUMER SERVICE DOESN'T CARE FOR THIER LONG TIME SUPPORTERS! AND NEITHER MIKE!
Hey I would like to share with you my experience with The Legion team. I have been a long time supporter of Mike Matthews and his work, I have read and owned Bigger Leaner Stronger, The Shredded Chef, Eat Green Get Lean, and I'm currently about to finish the Beyond Bigger Leaner Stronger book and challenge. I'm also under a meal plan I purchased from Muscle for life. Over the last four years, since it's foundation, I have supported Legion Athletics and I consume their pre workout Pulse, their multivitamin Triumph, their joint supplement Fortify, their fish oil Triton, their fat burners, well almost everything with the exception of their Protein which is not affordable for me. I'm quite happy with their products I think they are honest with their work and Mike's books have changed my life, and I'm grateful for that. Sadly, Legion is now a proud company that doesn't care for their long time supporters. As part of my cutting plan I decided to join their Facebook group for support and interaction while having a few difference of opinions with some members which is natural in a multicultural and varied background forum. The Legion team constantly blocked anyone that had anything than a perfect opinion of their products and services. They also targeted my content and they finally blocked me when I expressed that I was sad with the costumer service they provided me. They discriminate, target, and block you without consideration, in words of a fellow and current member of the group "I didn't think your posts were any worse than what others posted and I thought you were UNFAIRLY TARGETED for reasons I'm not sure of". I have to be honest with you. I was surprised with Legion's customer service behavior, a few years ago I would have never believed they will act like this. I have personally defend their reputation in Amazon when people were lying about their products so WHY would they discriminate and target their customers? And I know why, for the quality of their products Legion is used to a lot of praise but the moment you raise a concern or valid criticism they shut down and target you, they stop liking you and they discriminate against you. Instead of growing as customer service they have become egocentric and prideful and the once honest company has become the one that uses defamation and falsehoods against their long time supporters. If your experience have been different, god bless bother, if they have treated you nice and with respect, god bless sister. I really don't wish that they treat everyone like they have treated me I respect your truth and also please respect mine. By the way they won't give you your money back if you don't want their products anymore. Don't expect them to have the decency to even take their products back.

Excellent formula for a pre workout
This formula is exactly what I was looking for. The 1 scoop option meets my needs of pre workout energy. For me personally, 2 scoops is too much. This makes it an economical choice at 40 servings per container. Depending on my workout plan for the day, and other supplements in my mix, I wanted a supplement that doesn’t contain creatine or taurine yet has the right ingredients to keep me going. It mixes easily and tastes great. Legion has quickly become one of my favorite brands and it’s top of mind when I’m purchasing supplements. They have many different types of supplements and I tried a few of them. I wasn’t disappointed once. Highly recommend.

Decent Pre-Workout with Good Taste but Short Effects
The taste is nice compared to other pre-workouts, though I sometimes get a slight aftertaste. It feels a bit acidic. The pump is noticeable but doesn’t seem to last long, maybe 30–35 minutes. It’s quite expensive, and I was expecting more. I’ll keep using it and may update my review if I see better results.

Clean pre workout but pricey
I love that they add the right doses and without Sucralose. They took one step up by using clean sweetener. But the price is so high and didn’t like the idea of not adding BCAA and creatine
