I had no difficulty folding back down. You just manipulate until it folds.

Has anyone successfully brought the larger one on a plane?

I don’t know as I have never air traveled with my pet. I use my carrier for grooming trips and vet trips.

I have a ~8lb cat, will the m be enough? or should i get the l? i want to make sure she has enough room.

My 10lb cat has a cozy fit. too much empty space makes the bag harder to carry, in my opinion.
