Purchased for a gift and wanted suitable area for engraving. The brass area around the head was more than suitable for that purpose. I also added a small plate to the base with additional engraving on it. Very impressed with quality etc.

Weird sound, almost a hollowness…
I was a little disappointed in the durability of this gavel. I bought it for my classroom Congressional and Parliamentary debates but I don’t anticipate it lasting the year. Also the base is so flimsy that it mutes the sound of the gavel strike. Feels cheap and sounds worse.
