the picture can be hung either way you just change hook in back with a screw driver not hard

THE HOOKS ARE 1", THE DESIGNED CONNECTORS ARE 1 1/2" & THAT'S MEASURING FROM THE ONE ALREADY HUNG AROUND THE DOOR.

Q: Can the frames be used in portrait and landscape orientations?

They are portrait orientation and would not be able to be rotated due to the placement of the decorative "loop" at the top of each that links them together.

Q: Will the pictures hang straight if the top part is hung on an angle?

not sure on that one I hung both straight
