I think it's funny that these are called "Pro Business" radios; we use them when we are camping to keep in touch with our son. It's a brilliant, awesome tool for that purpose. We usually stay in our camper for about a week at whatever campground we go to, and usually our son brings along one of his best friends. While we always accompany them at the lake or at the pool, they frequently like to go to the arcade or to a playground, or play with friends they've met, and we give them that freedom for the most part; the one caviat is they must bring a "walky-talky" with them and keep it on.This Cobra PX880 has the signal strength and the power to communicate with them anywhere on a large campground. The effective range of the PX880 is roughly 1.5 to 2 miles; I have no idea where this "12 mile" stuff comes from. Perhaps in deep space would this be true, but not with trees, buildings, and such. I have not tested the 20-something floor claim as I don't know where there is a 22-floor building in my whole state. Next time I'm in the Nakatomi buidling, I'll do a John McLane and try it. :^)They are so lightweight, small, and clear that calling the kids home for dinner or just to check in is convenient for them and us. Perfect camping tool to allow the kids some freedom while not always being in their faces (or they in ours!).

We just moved to the mountains on 24 acres in a large two story house. The cell phones never work especially up on the mountain or on the rest of the property. Trying to call someone downstairs from upstairs, even screaming can’t be heard! These Cobra radios are magnificent! They hold a charge for a several days and work anywhere on the property with clear sound. I was totally amazed when my husband drove off the property and out to the main road and kept going about a quarter mile, as the crow flies, from our house and I could still here him! These are awesome radios, really awesome! The only thing that could make them even better would be two chargers, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, maybe I can get another charger by itself. It’s so nice not to have to go outside especially in the cold, down a flight of stairs, across an old tennis court, to the separate garage to call my husband. Now with a push of a button from anywhere on our 24 acres, I can speak to him and hear him clearly. No more screaming from one floor to the other and not be heard. We LOVE these radios and use them constantly. I highly recommend them.

While they showed how to install the rechargable batteries, the instructions were unclear if the loose batteries were extras or to be installed. I had to scrounge a tiny screwdriver to get the batteries installed. Not a big deal as they recharge in the radio, but would have been classy if they included a cheap screwdriver.I literally spent about 2 minutes thinking that the volume knobs were broken. At the last minute I took a pair of plyers and forced rotation. I think the grease sort of froze in shipping or something?My biggest issue with these is the push to talk button is on the front of the unit - very odd. Generally, these seem decent, but the ergonomics and build quality don't seems as nice as the motorola talkabout.

Product works about a mile from home. But not further than that. But was bought to use around my 1 acre yard, so product is excellent for this. Instructions are in English and very helpful.

First off, these are really easy to use! For someone who has kids that like to camp and explore, these add a bit of peace of mind! These are simple to use and when they are set up, they are good to go! Although I have not tested these past a distance of 3 miles, they work fine in that zone. When buying radios its very important to understand how radios work and that specs that give "x amount" of miles are talking about line of sight. Any time foliage increases and the forest gets more dense with trees or rocks or sasquatches, radio quality deteriorates! That is normal for how license free radios usually work!Anyway, although sound quality could be A LITTLE better, the ease of use makes up for that along with the battery life and how easy it is to charge them(usb).

We have a very old tall house. At any given time my husband could be in the basement while I am in the attic. We’ve tried baby monitors and all kinds of work arounds; we find walkies are best. These are easy to use, hold a charge a long time and have crisp, clear sound. We love them. And no more yelling or risking life and limb running down stairs. Great for us.
