Can i connect portable hard drives which use usb-a to the usb-a ports? specifically will they (1) be powered and (2) allow data transfer?

What is the type of card reader? i am using a uhs-ii sdxc that's able to read 300mb/s.. but i'm barely getting 13mb/s reads....

My Blu-ray player uses hdmi. I tried connecting it to my iMac but the computer does not appear to recognize it. What do I do?

iMac is not a monitor. You cannot use iMac display to show your Blu-ray player's output. It's display only shows you to iMac system video output.

Macbook pro charger is 87w. does this hub support it or is it only for smaller chargers?

I connected my 87W charger and it "worked" for a while (charging slower) until one day it burned the adapter, so beware. I would not try to use this with an 87W charger.
