3 Days of the Condor

Funny how an old story has relevance today. Big business big government and big tech want to control the world and silence their enemies. Whistleblowers are being hunted down by big government and its cronies. They run to the press to tell their story, and now to come to find out the press is also the fifth regiment to the powerful and the problem for the nation of free people.

The film has already been reviewed in various places, so I will just say that it is a superb mystery with a disturbing mood, and that I love this film.I would like to say a few words about the rest of the review, especially from a "4K UHD" point of view.The restoration is perfect. There is no shaking, no debris, no scratches. The screen is well-proportioned, wonderfully clean and stable throughout the entire film.Even the wet textures feel organic and alive. The pouring rain scene at the beginning of the film is particularly memorable and beautiful. Colours are also pleasing, with natural tones reproduced effortlessly from dark to light. Grains appear fine and even, with a very pleasing film reproduction. Resolution is excellent, with wrinkles at the corners of Redford's eyes and individual strands of blonde hair showing well. Out-of-focus bokeh is also natural. You can even see the rain bouncing off the roof of the car. I am very satisfied - the KINO LORBER has done a good job. I only have one complaint. The only complaint I have is that there is no resume function. (The resume function means that once you press the stop button during playback and remove the disc, the next time you load the disc and press the play button, it will play from where you left off.) Please improve this next time.Thank you.

Its a great movie, and more importantly the disc and case showed up undamaged and in perfect working order.

This is the job I always wanted, librarian for the CIA. “He reads. He reads everything.” Hahah. Redo this and cast Gary Oldman: “He reads… EVERYTHING!!!” You don’t understand man! He reads! He reads books! All the books! He knows stuff! But yet he’s an amateur spy, and thus “unpredictable” in the words of the sophisticated assassin played by Max Von Sydow. (He’s from Alsace-Lorraine they say, like so unsophisticated Americans don’t know where that is haha.) I think that new Fincher flick The Killer stole nearly everything from this character, who says in a few lines everything Fassbender takes most of a whole movie to explain. The Killer is ultimately a let down with its new fangled take on this old story, but Three Days of the Condor is such fun with its old fashioned skullduggery. The telephones! This guy is an expert at landline telephones! In the seventies that was a big deal. The scene where he taps the phone company still gets me to this day. I dig it all except maybe for the somewhat preachy ending. The mailman assassin! That fight scene with the machine gun and the fireplace poker! Robert Redford leading the charge against his former employers! Take that (evil) company! Take that evil America! The New York Times will never let us down!

All the lead actors became big stars. Story is intriguing if you like these deep mysterious stories. Recommend without reservation.

Enjoyed movie!

It's a superb thriller about a CIA operation. Acting is excellent and in particular by Robert Redford!

Redford in his earlier acting years but by only his age not acting prowess. Literally white knuckles for the duration and enjoyable yet also fulfilling when he finally has the answers. Faye Dunaway brings a subtle, innocence that helps smooth the acrid emotions of Redford's bizarre behavior. Together they do some scheming on their own . Redford is still the master of the doubletake. This is an older film but still leads the way in entertainment and suspense. Superb film worth watching again and again.

Très bon thriller, à la mode ancienne. L'époque où l'on savait encore faire de bons films d'espionnage...

Ein unauffälliges Büro in New York City, perfekt getarnt als American Literary Historical Society, in Wahrheit eine hochtechnisierte Abteilung der CIA mit 8 Mitarbeitern.Dort werden weltweit Nachrichten gesammelt und danach ausgewertet, ob darin Strategien oder Hinweise zu finden sind, die der CIA von Nutzen sein könnten.Joe Turner (Robert Redford) ist einer von Ihnen und er ist bekannt nicht der pünktlichste und auch nicht der regelkonformste Mitarbeiter im Team zu sein.Heute beispielsweise kommt er etwas zu spät zur Arbeit und in der Mittagspause wird er das Büro verbotenerweise durch den Hintereingang kurz verlassen, dieses Verbot wird ihm aber das Leben retten.Es ist kurz vor Weihnachten, draussen regnet es und die Pause bedeutet eine kurze Entspannung von seinem Job mit Bücher lesen, Passagen ausdrucken, in einen Computer einspeisen, herausfiltern.Als er wieder zurückkehrt, sind alle seine Kollegen bereits tot. Ein drei Mann starkes Killerkommando hat sie alle kaltblütig erschossen.Turner muss nun fliehen, denn die Mörder werden bald herausfinden, dass sie ihren Auftrag nicht vollständig ausgeführt haben und er als einziger Überlebender der Gruppe steht natürlich auf der Abschlußliste.Er muss nun herausfinden, wer hinter diesem Anschlag steckt und vor allem muss er sich in Sicherheit bringen und kann niemandem trauen, vor allem nicht seinem eigenen Arbeitgeber CIA.Er nimmt aber Kontakt zur Dienststelle in Langley auf und soll nun den Anweisungen des Vorgesetzten Higgins (Cliff Robertson) folgen. Aber kann er seinem Chef auch trauen ?Untertauchen wird er bei der schönen Kathy Hale (Faye Dunaway), die taltentierte Fotographin wird seine Geisel.Aber inzwischen ist auch der besonders versierte Profikiller (Max von Sydow) , der von der Organisation nur "der Elsässer" schon dicht auf seinen Fersen..."Die drei Tage des Condor" von Sydney Pollack entstand 1975 und zählt zu den in den 70ern besonders beliebten Paranoia-Thrillern, die u.a. auch politische Verschwörungen und ominöse Geheimdienstaktivitäten beschreiben.Vorausgegangen war das Misstrauen der amerikanischen Bevölkerung gegenüber ihren eigenen Sicherheitsbehörden und vor allem gegenüber der Regierung, die aufgrund der Watergate Affäre in ihrem Vertrauen maßgeblich erschüttert wurde.Dies machte den Weg frei für diese typischen Thriller, die von der undurchsichtigen Haltung der politischen Institutionen handelt. Ein weiteres Thema für diese wunderbaren Thriller war dann auch aufgrund "Watergate" das Abhören durch einen Lauschangriff. Beispiele dafür sind "Klute", "Die Unbestechlichen" oder "Der Dialog".Ein Indiz dafür wie viele klasse Filme in diesen Zeiten der Paranoia hervorgegangen sind.Pollacks Film ist vielleicht einer der flüssigsten seiner Art, denn die Geschichte ist spannend und dynnaisch erzählt.Er bietet auch szenenweise einige Glanzmomente, die super sind (Exposition, Postbotenkiller, jede Szene mit von Sydow), er bietet aber etwas weniger Rätsel im Vergleich zu Alan J. Pakulas "Zeuge einer Verschwörung", bei dem der Zuschauer nicht so viel erfährt.Die Schlußszene von "Drei Tage des Condor" ist aber wieder auf 100 % Paranoia ausgerichtet.Ein runder Film, der durchgehend spannend ist und vorzügliche Unterhaltung bietet.Natürlich bietet es sich bei Kinostars wie Redford und Dunaway an eine Romanze mit einzubauen, die zeigt wie sehr Pollack daran interessiert war seinen Paranoia Beitrag zum großen Publikumserfolg zu machen.
