If you care about the quality of your water, then this is definitely for you. Anyone willing to read past corporate propaganda knows that the store-bought charcoal filters (things like Brita, Pur) don't actually work very well at all at removing sediment. They simply clean up the taste so that choking down poisonous city water is more tolerable. Reverse osmosis can do a better job at removing sediment, but still does nothing for bacteria, and just as with any water filter, will actually begin PRODUCING additional bacteria once the filter has been in use a little while. But none of those issues need to be worried about with a distiller like this one. There are no filters to change, and all the bacteria gets killed when the water is boiled. (Of course in no situation is ALL bacteria killed, but this is as good as it can be) So the beauty of this product is that you buy it, and you're done for life. (Or until it breaks, which I have not seen happen yet with anyone's that I know) Now the product does technically come with filters that you are supposed to use that the water runs through after it has been boiled and cooled down. I do not use them however, but if you chose to, they would be much much cheaper than Pur filters. You also will need to clean this thing quite frequently, (will vary depending on how bad your water is) because with each gallon of water you will actually SEE all the dirt and crap left behind. After only a few gallons it will start to build up to gross levels, and will need cleaned. Some quick bulletpoints on the important details: -Makes 1 gallon at a time, which will take about 6 hours. -The electricity required to make 1 gallon is approx 3 kWh (which in my area is about 25 cents worth, which is still WAY cheaper than buying distilled water) -It will make the room it is running in quite hot, as it is boiling water for 6 hours. Plan accordingly and place it in your basement or an open room that won't get super stuffy quickly. I made the mistake of having it in my bedroom, which would get up to 95 degrees within an hour of starting this thing -YOU SHOULD BUY THIS PRODUCT! Buy it and share the bounty of clean water with all you see. Your body will thank you, and so will everyone you bless with clean water. If you are a skeptic, then just see the proof for yourself. If you know someone that has one of these, have them clean it out completely, then run it with different kinds of water. When I bought mine I used it to show a diehard Pur filter fan that it really wasn't doing anything for them other than masking the bad taste. In fact, since their filter was behind on being changed, when we did a gallon of water from it in the distiller, it actually looked worse than when we did it straight from the tap. To also prove to this skeptic that most bottled water is not in fact a rip off, and there is a reason you pay more for it, we ran a gallon of Aquafina water, and as expected, it left no bad residue behind, proving it is in fact cleaner than what you get from the city. I guess the only bad thing I'd say about this particular one over any other is that it is clearly made by a Japanese company, as evidenced by the HORRIBLY written English manual. (I mean it's bad that the manual is so bad, not necessarily because it's made by a Japanese company) Fortunately this is an incredibly simple device to use. Anyone should be able to mostly figure it out themselves, and if not, just the pictures in the manual should be enough...

I had been researching these for months not knowing if the extra money for this unit was worth it. Trust me, it is. I've been using this a few times a week for 2 months now and I am kicking myself for not buying it sooner. It's well made, it's quiet and it works beautifully. It does take 3-4 hours to distill one gallon but that's faster than the cheaper versions and worth the wait knowing it won't break or leak. Wonderful machine. UPDATE - It's been a year now and I'm still using this amazing device without any issues. I have 2 humidifiers and the distilled water is for those. About every 2 or 3 weeks I run it to fill 5 gallon jugs and then I clean it and put it away. It has paid for itself by now for sure and I love not having to lug gallon jugs home from the store now. I wish I had bought it sooner. UPDATE 2 - It's been nearly 2 years now and I calculated how many gallons I've distilled -- 92 gallons as of what's being processed right now. It's still working as flawlessly as it did the day I got it. No leaks, easy to clean and no issues. I've recommended this to a lot of people now who've had the same experience.

I ordered one of these for my neighbor but I own one myself and have for years so I will write a review. Basically, it works fine. I have been told by another guy I know who owns one that it will even make seventy proof alcohol from his "secret" arecipe which is twelve pounds of sugar, two pounds of brown sugar, and one cup of molasses in a six gallon bucket. He turns a gallon into a quart and two quarts into his final "product", a term he got from watching that show on cable TV. My wife and I stick to water. So does my neighbor who had me order this thing for him. His wife is a health store type and is terrified of tap water. This is okay in LA I guess but a bit paranoid here. By LA, I mean Louisiana, of course, NOT Lower Alabama. One dandy thing to do with your distilled water is to make normal saline. You can do this by mixing about a shot glass full of pickling salt with a gallon of your "product". Use pickling salt or ground up rock salt since it is absolutely pure. Much to my amazement, I found out that even Kosher Salt is allowed to have one type of anti caking agent in it ans still remain kosher. Oi Vey. My distiller has given me no trouble in years though I do not run it morning, noon and night the way my neighbor does. His lasted a goodly amount of time and he thinks the cutoff dircuitry probably went bad since everything else checks out. The overheat circuitry does go out on accasion with things like box fans, etc., but you want to have this on many things as a safety measure. I would recommend this product highly since I have heard not so good things about a few other brands--not that there are overly many out there. These were sort of a fad way back which is when I actually bought mine though I do not remember the year. The only other thing is that this is a four liter device. This is slightly more than a gallon and you can read a milk jug to see exactly how much since I forget. Do NOT overfill it above the line inside the stainless steel interior. You may also clean the thing with vinegar or citric acid so I guess this is two other things. For my last one more thing; you might want to throw in just a grain or two of salt. Distilled water without any ionic content tends to be somewhat cottony in taste. I mean one or two itty bitty salt grains--not shaking a shaker into it. That's all it takes to improve the taste.

We distill all our well water for health reasons. This countertop unit is as described size wise and efficiently does the job. Keep it clean an it lasts for many years. Reliable, no issues, decent price.

An awesome distiller at an excellent price. I use it a LOT. I believe if you treat it with care and clean it once a month, it should last a long, long time. It does give a lot of heat - can only run it at night in the summer. But, it has to be hot - so not really a complaint, just never thought that part through. Still love it regardless!

I bought 2 of these units a year ago. I start both of them every night before bed and in the morning we have two delicious gallons of distilled water to enjoy all day. The first thing I did after receiving the distillers was to order two, 1 gallon GLASS pitchers to replace the plactic jugs the distillers came with... I don't care for plastic touching my water. Because the pitchers were too tall to catch the water dripping out, I simply lifted the distillers higher by placing both distiler units side by side on top of a 3 inch platform I made. Now they could accomadate the height of the taller pitchers. Works like a charm. Additionally, I pushed wedges underneath the pitcher bases to slant them towards the distiller's water nozzle to perfectly to catch the drops of water as they come out. We couldnt be happier with this setup. The distillers are perfect and have shown no signs of wear or misfunction after a year of daily use. Highly recomend. They run at night when electricity is cheaper in Southern CA and the noise is unnoticeable while we sleep.

I keep this distiller in my bathroom. It's a great place to keep it. It takes about one minute to fill the plastic container at the faucet and pour it into the distiller. Then I adjust it, press a button, and wa la. It starts. In about one hour you'll have a full glass of drinkable distilled water. In about sixish you'll have a full gallon. The taste, in the beginning, takes some getting used to. I didn't like it at first, but now I think it's the best. It's like drinking air, in a really good way. It slides down your throat more easily, more smoothly, and faster. You should see the gunk that comes out of your water. Seeing the whitish, brownish, pinkish, sometimes foul smelling crud that comes out of your tap water really makes you appreciate drinking freshly distilled water. Especially over time you think,"wow that could all be in my body right now". And it also makes me think that none of the other pitcher filters or faucet filters even come close to extracting that amount of gunk out of tap water. As far as health benefits, haven't noticed any that really jump out at me. Maybe there are some, maybe there are not any. I don't know. But what I have noticed *cough*, and I have to mention this...... Urination is more pleasurable when you drink only distilled water on a regular basis. That's right. Its smoother, more comfortable, and just more pleasant. I noticed a "resistance" before when I drank "filtered" tap water. Not so anymore. And I'm actually quite grateful for this. Notes about this distiller - It makes whatever room you run it in hotter - It can leak if your not careful. Some times you need to prop your water container up to make sure that the water from the distiller drips into your container and not on your counter. - It is compatible with other water containers, glass or other wise. I wondered about this before buying this distiller and I can say that yes any container you have will work to capture the distilled water dripping out of the distiller. DO NOT be jipped into spending 50 dollars on an official glass water jug.
